Peter Jackson.... what a guy. Hero status easily attained and not just because it was Lord of the rings. He had me at Bad Taste. The improvisation, the creativity, the soul of it. His mum feeding the cast baked beans. The guy is my bloody hero.
What a treat these diaries are. I was 11 when The Fellowship of the Ring came out. The books and all of the films are such a huge part of my life I almost feel like I was there watching the production. If only lol it is officially my life goal to take a backpacking trip across New Zealand. I want nothing more
I was five here my dude, lol. I remember by brother showing me The Fellowship back in 05-06-07 one of those years and getting bored about half an hour to an hour into the film. I thought it was pure fucking shit, thinking why does he like this boring movie. Then years down the line I ended up watching one of the films, I can't remember how it came to be but it just did. Since then I've seen LotR twice maybe three times as the standard version and four to five times the extended. From there on I saw the hobbits standard once and watched the extended twice, owning both extended versions. I don't regret a single day.
I really liked that they minimised their impact on nature there. Tolkien himself was a nature lover and he would have liked seeing the Hobbit made with such care, I think.
@@pacrat6271 Thanks, that's exactly what I wanted to write back. @Matthew Love - I have no idea if Tolkien would have liked the movies but yes I did hear his son said something along those lines of him probably not liking them.
after watching this i have a new kind of respect for the amount of work that goes into movie making and everything the actors to the produsers are willing to sacrafise just to entertain us.
Oh my, oh my. I work as a lone video producer, editor and filmer for a small consulting company and looking at these blogs just makes me teary eyed. Such a great team, spirit and professionalism is just something overwhelmingly inspiring. I'd give (almost) anything to be a part of a production like this.
Unfucking real how beautiful that country is, Romania is pretty wild and beautiful too, but New Zealand really takes the prize. That look of untouched wilderness, you expect a dinosaur to walk out of the woods or from behind the ridges.
I may not have loved the movies very much but I sure am greatful for these production diaries. Thanks Peter Jackson for giving us a glimpse into what goes into movie magic.
LOTR TRILOGY, Hobbit, Desalution of smaug etc.. FILMS are very watchable and worthy.the best of the best in decades. Never gets old movies all actors are great! The ditector is cool and amazing! Keep ya head up!💯😎
When he said he never saw a crew pack up their gear so fast, because of the issued bad wheather warning... listen to the music...it´s hilarious, because all of a sudden it also goes REALLY fast! (11:45) I love it!
i cant stop watching these...it would be so cool to be on the set and help make these movies. these people are having the times of their lives, i am very happy for them. i love the hobbit and you can tell they enjoyed making it
I cant believe I'm only seeing this now, but at the same time it's quite fantastic to still discover more high-quality content to extend those Middle-Earth experiences delivered by Peter Jackson, which moved me so much... The amount of nostalgia and even saudade is nearly overwhelming when watching those movies aggain, all the DVD bonus, even those diaries... All that cast, all that gigantic crew, somehow feel like family ; or at least a family you've dreamed countless times to be a part of... I can only hope I'll be able to visit New Zealand (and Hobbiton, and Mount Ruapehu, and....) before the end of my days. Thank you so much to Peter Jackson, the whole cast & crew, and to all the lovely New Zealand people who brought their help (or even just permission...) for making this extraordinary, unforgettable and magical movie experience come to life. And utter respect to JRR Tolkien, of course...
Every time they describe NZ as 'beautiful' or 'spectacular' I'm just like "YEEEAAAA BOIII. DAS MA COUNTRY!" And i haven't heard of half the places they talk about. I really need to get out more.
Fantastic, when so many people work together to create something wonderful. From a certain point of view, this is more important than the movie. It´s a big blessing to be involved in such a work.
Must have been amazing to be a part of such a large endeavor....and in such an absolutely beautiful setting ! Worth the effort...the movies were incredible !

Thank you Peter Jackson for your amazing movie series. this is the best movie series I ever have watched so far. and it made my childhood more beautiful but still, I am used to watching this incredible creation when I have free time. Actually, I am addicted to The Hobbit.
Commenting as an American, it is so cool to see many of these places in NZ where I have been. Some purposefully based on the LoTR movies and others simply by chance, going, oh wow, I was there.
A day on tour at Hobbiton ending with a hobbit ale and banquet in the Prancing Pony is a favourite memory. It's not just to entertain us.
Pretty sure their sacrifices are 98% for money, 1.8% for fame and acting continuity in future movie roles and 0.2% for the love of art.
