Life in Japan: Cat Attacks Vet and Shopping Haul

- Last week I did a big shopping haul at CAINZ and I will go through that today. Poor Millie also had a vet visit which didn't go to plan and ended up with her attacking the vet and the vet assistant. Life in Japan is always so eventful! Living in my Akiya or Japanese house, I spend the morings cleaning up. So clean with me as we get the house ready for unpacking my shopping haul.
If you are new to the channel, my name is Chani and I am a middle aged Australia who was stuck in a rut and moved to Japan to live. I bought an Akiya or empty house and started renovating. I'd love it if you joined the community.

Honestly dont understand it... great channel👌
Regarding the subtle signs on the stofa that you own a cat....I noticed them too! LOL! Think of them like the crayon scribbles on the walls by your young children! Precious!
I enjoy all of your videos but especially this one where Millie is the star of the show ❤ I hope her next vet appointment is not so stressful.
It put the biggest smile on my face seeing Millie in the cat house. 😊
Poor Millie 😻🐾. I'm so glad that she recovered from her trip to the vets. She probably just wasn't in the mood that day. I'm looking forward to your next video ☺️
Maybe you are right. Do cats have hair days?
@@ChaniJapan I know that my dogs do 😂. Some days they are right little monkeys 🐒 😂🐾. My nieces cat objected to new her shift work by meowing loudly to get her attention, then peeing on her washing pile 😂
Cats just don't expect to be poked by a syringe
I don't know of many cats that like going to the vet! She's such beauty and certainly queen of her castle! ❤️
MIllie was so patient wearing that plastic bag! My boys would have been racing around the house making horrible noise scaring themselves. She's so cute. Thank you for the video!
I loved seeing Millie in her "cat house", enjoying a a small space, as cats do, and playing out through the various holes. Yes- it was indeed a good distraction after the stress of the vet visit.
I love the way Chief Inspector Millie was supervising the placement of items in the guest room. She seems to have everything under control! Sorry for her traumatic experience at the vet, nobody likes getting shots. I hope the excitement of a new Millie cottage was enough to take her mind off of it!
I think as we walked home she forgot about it 😽
I Love Cats and Millie San is so adorable ❤
Millie is so gorgeous and it’s very obvious she loves her mum. Sorry she had a bad time at the vets and I hope she’s recovered. Her playing in the cardboard house was adorable. Hope you’re well xx
😽🩷
Silly Billy! Hadn’t heard that in years. As an ex pat living in Spain….miss stuff like that ❤
Haha. I say it about Millie all the time.
Thank you for posting videos. I live vicariously through you. 😀
So nice of you
Millie ❤
😽
Glad Millie is okay. She is so cute.
One thing I noticed about our ragdoll is he tends to recover quickly from a little traumatic experience with the encouragement of a toy aswell. I just adore Millie and I love how she's in every video! ❤❤❤
Side note, Im very excited for my son today, he arrived in Narita lastnight and immediately sent photos of his surroundings, we just can't believe he's finally in Japan! Im so proud, he's very brave and travelling solo for 33 days!
I just want to brag to anyone who will listen or even if they don't, I'm still bragging 😂
❤Millie
Oh, poor Millie! And the poor nurse, although I suppose she's used to it. I'm glad Millie seemed to have recovered quickly and had the new house to play in after her ordeal 😽 That was another good video, Chani! Xoxo Robin
Thanks so much Robin 🩷😃
Ah, cats and vets...one of mine scratched me once in a similar situation. Thank you for showing us your 'haul' and inspiring me to do some cleaning 🙂
You are so welcome!
I always learn so much from you about living in Japan! I’ll be following your futon maintenance for sure. And I hope to be able to focus on your courses consistently very soon. Your Japanese is so natural and effortless! Thank you 😁
Thanks 🩷
A much needed Millie episode..🩵🩵🩵
😽😽😽
So awesome to have you take this community on your journey in life, thank you so much for your time and efforts.
Thank you 🩷
❤thanks for the video. Millie you are so cute!
😊 thank you
Love your videos! Thanks so much! They breathe some life and always make my day better! ❤Thanks so much! And Millie is the star! 🤩✨🐱. Inspiration for when I do book that trip to Japan or move somewhere or anywhere in the world! 🗺️🗾📍🇯🇵🥰✨✌️Best Regards❤Hope Millie is feeling better!🩺🐈
You are so kind 🩷 Millie is doing great 😽
So glad that you are such a responsible and good cat owner. Vet visits are important. She is in good hands! I was also eager to see your haul from the store from your last video. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much!
Such a nice cat house she lives now. Enjoyed your video this time, too. Thanks!
Thank you very much!
i look forward to your updates every week! Poor ol Millie, at least she could be the boss of her box afterwards even if she couldn't be the boss of the vet
Yes. Boss of the box 🩷
That couch. Tell me you own a cat without telling me you own a cat 🤣
My Bed base is the same.
OMG yes. I was wondering if anyone would notice 🤣
I have a 1950 vintage club chair that has been through 2 generations of cats and now I have a chihuahua mix that that loves that chair. She chewed a hole in cushion. 😂
Your video making skills really do get better and better! Nice to see you grow alongside the channel
Thanks so much 😽
Hi Chani - love your videos - thank you again. Quick question - in your previous video you mentioned that you had purchased a Bluetti . Do you mind me asking if you are happy with it, and if there are other features you would have liked it to have? Thanks again ....Rick
I love the Bluetti. It has everything and does everything I need. It charges up really fast. It has an app and a clear display.
Millie is a rag doll and a babydoll!
How amazing is it to be able to walk your cat to the vet's office. Can't imagine that's a thing in too many western countries lol
I'm Canadian and my cat walks on a leash and we also have a cat caddy😊
The vet is really close to home.
😊Hi! Hermosa Milli en su casa 🏡 😍. A nadie le gustair al doctor, incluidos los animales 💕 , pero es necesario 😊.
Gracias por compartir tus momentos.
Saludos 🤗 🤗
Thank you 😽🩷
You had a good haul at the dollar store! Cats never love a frontal hold. They want you at the back. I have had Persian cats all my life, and some of them are pretty feisty. Yearly check-ups and injections were never a problem that way. The moment the teeth needed to be checked, the feisty cats came out. I am scolded every morning for brushing their teeth, so expect a change of mood at the vet. Avoided a fight that way. Poor nurse. But Millie made it clear!
Millie lets me brush her fur for about 1 min then suddenly decides it’s enough! She also becomes a feisty cat. 🤣😽
Oh, she had a of day, poor girl.
Another wonderful video to watch. I simply love the laid back style of your videos and I look forward to your posts every week, and as I just had a shoulder replacement it really lifted my spirits. Warm wishes as always from Perth.
Thank you so much! I hope your shoulder is feeling ok today 🩷
Sounds as though your neighbour likes blue eyes...nod, nod, wink, wink.
🤣💙
I've definitely had (flu etc) shots theoretically in the same spot hurt terribly one year and be painless other years, so I can definitely sympathize with Millie. I'm so glad that she was able to uncurl from the bottom of the carrier and look out again before she got home.
I may not be up to making connections with social drinking, but I am totally capable of having a cat and talking about them with people in the streets! 😅 Thanks for showing that option for connecting with the community!
Hi Chani, I am always looking forward to watching what videos you posted.
So relaxing watching you doing your house chores before taking your Millie to the vet for her injection.
Thank you so much 😊
@ChaniJapan , I'm still overwhelmed after moving to Adelaide, and I haven't settled.
Thank you, Chani
@@epiwhittaker5617 it takes time I agree 🩷
Warrior Millie!
Always happy to see you and Millie doing well! My cats don't appreciate shots either, but she seems to have recovered well!
Thank you! 😊
Awwwwww , Millieeeee!🐾😻💖. So cute. Maybe next t visit no needles, and even give her a mild sedative. That way she won’t always associate a vet visit with needles. Glad to see she recovered so well in her cathouse!
By the time we walked home she seemed ok.
For future visits to the vet, we would recommend that you distract Milli from the front, caress her and simply turn towards her, holding her in a decidedly very tight grip, so that the vet or nurse can carry out the treatment elsewhere on her body (in this case the vaccination). It is much less likely that Milli will behave aggressively towards you than towards a stranger. Nevertheless, caution is of course advised, especially if Milli is in severe pain or is extremely surprised by something. With an injection, the pain is usually not that great, so it should be sufficient if you simply distract her and stroke or cuddle her during the injection. Incidentally, this is also a recommendation from our own vet.
Also, if you consider shortening Milli's claws, it would be less painful if she tries to strike with her claws. Cat bites are way more serious though.
Thanks for sharing the vedios of your journey i love all the vedios you make i an your new subscriber
Thanks and welcome
If she loves sharpening her claws (the couch lol) maybe get her a large hard wood log like maple or oak if you can find that. Merri has one and uses it first thing in the morning and before going out. No need to scratch anything else as nothing sharpens claws better than a tree.
Thank you for your hard work with the vaccine. Millie did a great job.
She is a good girl normally!
Awe Millie what an ordeal. She recovered very quickly and it was necessary. Your house is looking cosier all the time Chani and your sandwich made me hungry 😂. Enjoy the cooler weather! We’re getting hot winds and flies here in Oz. Ugghhhh. I don’t mind the heat but the transition is yuk. Stay safe and happy..cu next week 🤗
@2:46 your couch looks like ours.....one big scratching post for cats. 😺
Yes it can’t be saved.
The Vets should learn from the amazing Istanbul Vet - who distracts them with either wet food, the rolling top cap of the syringe 💉 or a moving toy & most cats don't even notice. Understand cat psychology is important.
Now Miele will be even more wound up for her next Vet visit.
We got two amazing cats who were in need of a home earlier this year through "Ark Bark Kansai" (from one of their Tokyo branches). There is so much cat hair everywhere now lol We're really looking forward to the cooler months and hope the shedding slows down a bit soon :D
Yes. I hope the summer shedding will stop for a while too. Hopefully winter will be less fur 🩷😽
My cat Esme doesn't like vets either 😬, but then what cat does 😋 sending lots of love to you and Millie. ❤
Thank you! 😊 Back at you and Eame🩷
@@ChaniJapan❤🐈
Loving your channel! I subscribed about a month or so ago. I just learned about a cat festival in Kagurazaka, Japan that happens on October 13. People dress up like cats, some bring their cats, etc. Maybe something to check out next year.
Sounds really interesting 😽
I don’t blame you Millie, I don’t like needles either!
Millie is such a character 😂 you are an amazing mum to her ❤ i miss Wakayama …
Thanks 😽
Millie is a typical cat! No to shots😢. Glad both of you have recovered. Thank you for sharing, and now I want to clean my house too!
Wish that type of vet visit would be the same price here in US. The shots would have been triple the price price!
Really! So expensive. I think it was about the same as Australia
Oh no, you went to all that trouble to Hoover your futon cupboards and then Millie went right in to inspect your work! lol So much for a fur-free futon cupboard. 😹
Hopefully the little ragdoll wasn't too traumatized by her trip to the vet. I do not blame her one bit for fighting back when she was held down. I wouldn't like it either. She must be wonderful company~
Thank you 🤗
To be honest, in the beginning I shortly thought the Milly turned the poor Vet into a tiny pieces. Until my brain cought on.The Cut to your sandwich was a little...surprising :-D
I hope Millie and the nurse are Ok. I suspect that Millie detected the subtle change of mood as they prepared to give her the injection, but at least it's done.
My pup Goose got his shots not long ago. Our vet doesn’t have the parents in the room when they give shots or take blood. So the parents aren’t associated with the ouchies! lol! Miss Millie was all out of sorts but she bounced right back! Such. Sweet kittie! 🐾
That’s probably a good idea not to be in the room.
Great video, do you have humidity in winter too ? mould must be a common problem over there, I guess as a tourist I've never thought of it
It’s really dry in winter. I think the humidity hits just after rainy season in June. Then goes right through to end of September.
Millie turned out to be a feisty one 😅
She has two faces 😬
チャニさんの英語は聞き取りやすいです。
That jaffle looks amazing 😄.....Mum says she's still finding hair from her Jack Russel that passed about 6 years ago, she now has a snoodle, I think, poodle cross something...how do the vet fees compare to Oz, cheaper or about the same? Actually if you are chasing content ideas, I'd be interested in your opinion of cost of living Jp vs Oz from housing expenses tax/shire rates, elect, food etc. You might have a higher percentage of subs from elsewhere, but would be cool if you have a lot of Oz subs, we plan to buy a house and move to Jp in 2027.
Great idea for content! The vet is about the same as OZ
@@ChaniJapan 😀👍
Oh, hey, how did you end up adding the last panel to the veranda roof?
Different season here, but I'm having to deal with dog hair. She leaves clumps too, no sooner you've vacuumed and it's back again.
Spring and Autumn are "hairy times" in a home with a Huskie, I can tell you!
Did you bring the cat from Australia? Would you ever let her ramble around on her own outdoors?
She is born in Japan 🇯🇵 I can’t let her outside on her own. I would worry about her road safety.
空き家 and IKEA sound very similar to me.😅
Yes they do🤣
💜
Chani, thanks for the video... I feel sorry for Milly, but she will be better off getting all here shots to protect her.
Can I ask where you are from in Australia? I know many Australians (on RUclips) because of my ham radio and photography hobbies, but you surprise me sometimes with certain words ... I had to replay the video several times where you made your sandwich....it seems like you said "Chuner and avacado" sandwich. Was it just me and my old ears?
I think learning the way people speak and the differences in words used by people around the world ia very interesting! Thanks as always for your sharing your life with all of us.
Ok. Yes. My accent is very mixed. I grew up on a boat. Lived in Cairns and then moved to Brisbane. So I might sound a bit different 🤣
@@ChaniJapan I think your "accent" and words are very easy to listen to. I notice that you occasionally raise the tone of your voice, not the volume, at the end of the sentence. I have a good Canadian friend in Tokyo that does the same.... I have not noticed other British friend do it. Fascinating...
I also grew up saying "I reckon.....xxxxx . I thought it was from the Oki (Oklahoma) roots of my parents and grandparents, but I have heard more "British" English speaking friends use it too. By the way, I speak Osaka dialect Japanese and had some problems when I lived in Tokyo for a while a very long time ago. I have never had formal Japanese lessons, so I would say I speak "conversational Japanese", and just learned by listening and repeating the words and sentences spoken by my fellow workers. I hope to get more organized and then order your lessons and books.
oh milly ... LOL too many people probably.
Is CAINZ like Don Quijote? I didn't see that store when in Japan last month.
It’s like a big homewares store.
😀
Wow how cheap is the vaccination, Millie is a lovely looking cat I wouldn’t mind a cat like Millie I was a bit worried at the start of the video that there was something wrong her but I’m glad there isn’t. she may not want to go to the vet next time 🤣.
Will you be doing the traditional KFC dinner for your guests at Christmas time ?
Did your cat tear up your couch?
Yes. She decided that all the scratching pads weren’t good enough for her.
Question on teaching Japanese, I'm half Japanese in my late 50s and regret not taking my mom up on learning Japanese as a kid. You know the typical "when would I ever use it!". Now, besides the simple/common phrases, I find it hard to retain new phrases. Do you find the "old dog can't learn new tricks" saying with language at an older age?
Sadly I've found Dyson vacuums really overhyped cheap plastic junk which doesn't last. Miele's $$$ pet corded model with hepa filter model is best. However it is very heavy so for those with double / triple story it's a problem and bags / filter costs. It does clean really well on low watts power, quite and doesn't blow fine dust about.
I've had one for 10 years
I really enjoy your videos and so glad for your success. However, being told in every video to “stick around to the end” gets really tiresome tbh.
Noted!
So Millie is an anti-vaxer. Based.
But seriously, I don't think it's surprising for anyone to get upset at being stuck with a needle if they don't understand what it is for. I hope she doesn't associate the pram with the needle stick, but i'm sure she will be fine.
I think she’ll be right. I was a bit worried about that too.
You are like Jon in the Garfield cartoons, cat hair and vet visits are not fun.
So true. I love Jon and Garfield.
Ohh where did you get the wood slat thingy from for your futon mattress. I need something like that for my blankets.
From the home Center here called Cainz.
