Just from experience, if you sand where you put the tape you will get less of a bond. The 3m tape will stick way better to a smooth surface.

Thanks for the comment! There's a lot of variables to stuff like this. The method I used was derived very closely from the specific directions that 3M offers. Their directions are generally to clean (remove items that can reduce adhesion), prime (create a smoother surface like you mention), "abrasion" (which is basically the same as fine sanding like I did - again, to create a smoother surface), and then install the tape to a cleaned (again) surface. So, while I do use sandpaper, I'm using a fine grit and light pressure to actually accomplish what you're describing - a reasonably smooth overall surface.

You are obviously a single man. If I would have thought about putting my side skirts in the kitchen my wife would have driven my Camaro off a cliff with me and the side skirts in the trunk!! Good video. I'm likely to use your guidance for installing my side skirts.............. minus the kitchen prep.

LOL! Thanks for the comment! I can totally appreciate where you're coming from, but keep in mind that these were new out of the box and completely clean. I would not do that with items that run the risk of damaging or staining anything. I hope the info helps - come back and let us know how you did! Don't forget to subscribe!

Thanks for the videos man. I just went to install the CF EOS ones on my 2017 SS. The instructions were horrid with a lot of grammar errors. They gave me 31 self tapping screws and then say in the instructions to use rivets... I backed out the install just now.

Glad you found them helpful. This is a big part of why I decided to start a channel - lots of gaps in instructions and such, and I wasn't able to find other resources that filled those gaps in.
Are you going to get to install the ones you have now? Wasn't sure since you said you had "backed out"...

How have they been holding up without the screws???

Great question! Full disclosure... I think I just hit 8k miles on the car, so probably not really a "long term review." Still... ZERO issues and no indications that anything has weakened.

Thanks for the comment! Glad you found the info useful. I can imagine some of the detail may not have been needed in your case, but my frustration with online content in general is that it LACKS details. As a result, my content tends to be a little more in-depth on some stuff. Maybe I can create "shortcuts" to get to certain areas more quickly so folks can skip ahead a bit.

Yeah, it took a while to get them prepped as I did. But, three years and they haven't moved with just the tape. I'm glad I spent the time to prepare them this way!
