It does not need to either. None of the projects that threaten Burj Khalifa's status as the tallest tower around are currently under construction. Jeddah Tower hasn't seen activity for two years (and with its lead developer in prison and a hopelessly poor location in the remote outskirts of Jeddah, it probably won't start again soon), and Dubai One never seems to get off the ground either (its observation deck would be higher up than Burj Khalifa's despite an overall lower total height, so it would definitely compete with Burj Khalifa for tourist revenue). Models and renders are flaunted around, new completion dates are announced with some fanfare, but the towers remain unbuilt.
Without this competition, Emaar has no reason to build Dubai Creek Tower. They already own Burj Khalifa as a major tourist attraction, and there's no reason for them to spend billions just to split that revenue between two locations. Burj Khalifa continues to do the job DCT was planned to do. It's Emaar's landmark, the tallest building in the world, the observation deck all the tourists come to visit. The competition DCT was meant to address never came. And so DCT doesn't need to exist either. Give it ten years, it will probably still just be a concrete donut in the middle of an empty plain.

@@Ammarx1: I have yet to see evidence of that. Some pictures show activity on the site around the tower, but as far as I know no work is ongoing on the tower itself. I'd be happy to see a source proving otherwise, though.

They wont give up the title for tallest structure, but when the Jeddah Tower is completed; Dubai will give up the title for tallest skyscraper/inhabited building as the Dubai Creek Tower is technically just a tower

Most probably because not all of the space and floor level of the Jeddah tower will be affordable/ salable the same as the current situation of Burj Khalifa. *My two cents only.

Except Jeddah Tower isn't really being built these days. No activity on the tower for more than a year. Lead developer in prison after a spat with the Saudi crown prince. Hopeless location, so the chances of anybody else picking it up to finish it are pretty low.
Then again, Dubai Creek Tower isn't seeing much activity either. Burj Khalifa remains the tallest building in the world for the foreseeable future, so there's no reason for the developer to build an even taller tower. They would only compete against (and thus, split the tourist revenue with) themselves.
Residential towers nearby and around it are nearing completion...they're building the whole Dubai Creek Harbor really fast...
And that's the power of slave labor :/

Also, are people fucking stupid? The thing is 1300m high. It's so tall it looks like it's super thin, but it's not. It's body is just a little thinner than Burj khalifa's.
Wow, this structure will be breathtaking. As a photographer I have a deep interest and appreciation of architecture, can't wait to go there one day!

Be careful with your photography in this city. A lot of security and police like to hassle tourist photographers over strict interpretations of what you can photograph. A lot of them even go after you for photographing building as they think they are protected by copyright laws. Of course if you check out a lot of Dubai tourist sites they will not tell you this.

They kind of do. The Palm Islands created a massive reef habitat, and I remember something about Dubai sinking vehicles to make an artificial habitat for fish. Also, Dubai is planning to go 75 percent solar by 2050. They also have a LOT of electric vehicles. I'd say they are doing pretty well.

I would like to see a follow up video that discusses the engineering for this tower.
I would find it particularly interesting how the tensioned cable stays are regulated for the dynamic extremes of expansion and contraction/winds on the tower unit itself. The weight of those cables must be quite high too and it would be interesting to understand the stresses that places upon the structure itself.
Weight, plus expansion and contraction are a formidable obstacle on a 4200 foot high structure I would guess, not to forget about the compressive forces of the tower itself through its footings. Quite a remarkable achievement if carried out to fruition and it will rewrite some textbooks as well.
