Connie Mahaswaren: Whitney was a very good singer but she tried to put herself on the same level as not only Donna Summer but Chaka Khan and other great singers. I'm sorry but she had the potential to be a great singer but she came along at the wrong time... the eighties...which was not as kind to R&B singers as say the 70's or the 60's.During the eighties, even great R&B singers such as Stevie Wonder and Patti Labelle kind of sold out by watering down their music to some extent. Fortunately, singers like Patti Labelle, Stevie Wonder and others had already achieved greatness by the time the eighties came along. Unfortunately for Whitney, she was just getting started when the eighties came along and was never really able to really reach her potential. Imao, Whitney lent her voice to some rather subpar songs during the eighties that were not worthy of someone with a voice like hers. This, in my opinion, diminishes her stature as a great singer. This is why I say she is not worthy to duet with someone of Donna Summer's stature.

Oscar Montalvo, You must be awfully young. Donna Summer was a huge star, and the Queen of Disco in the 70s/80s. No, not as big a star as Houston, but hardly anyone was. She was certainly adored by fans, and I'm pretty sure the industry was happy with her, though her turn to Christian faith maybe wasn't quite so appreciated. But she worked hard for her money, and they respected that. She suffered from a boycott in the mid-80s and her career never quite recovered, whether or not she actually said some anti-gay things (she denied this, but the boycott was probably at the worst time for her career as her new record label seems to have made mistake after mistake). But she continued to have hits way beyond the length of many pop careers, and she was even more appreciated in Europe. Even much later she had hits on the dance charts and so on. Very few artists have sold as many records, either. from Wikipedia: LaDonna Adrian Gaines (December 31, 1948 - May 17, 2012),[1] widely known by her stage name Donna Summer, was an American singer, songwriter, and actress. She gained prominence during the disco era of the late 1970s. A five-time Grammy Award winner, Summer was the first artist to have three consecutive double albums reach No. 1 on the United States Billboard 200 chart and charted four number-one singles in the U.S. within a 12-month period. Summer has reportedly sold over 230 million records worldwide, making her one of the world's best-selling artists of all time. She also charted two number-one singles on the R&B charts in the U.S. and a number-one in the U.K.[2] Summer earned a total of 42 hit singles on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart in her lifetime, with 14 of those reaching the top ten. She claimed a top 40 hit every year between 1975 and 1984, and from her first top ten hit in 1976, to the end of 1982, she had 12 top ten hits (10 were top five hits), more than any other act during that time period. She returned to the Hot 100's top five in 1983, and claimed her final top ten hit in 1989 with "This Time I Know It's for Real". Her most recent Hot 100 hit came in 1999 with "I Will Go With You (Con Te Partiro)". While her fortunes on the Hot 100 waned through those decades, Summer remained a force on the U.S. Dance/Club Play Songs chart over her entire career.

Brilliant. A few months ago, naively, I thought Donna's only hit was "I feel love" because it was the only I'd ever heard. Slowly I've discovered more of her songs, "bad girls" "hard for the money" "loves unkind" "this time i know it's for real" "last dance" to name a few and now this gem. a 70s classic from the woman with the most powerful voice we ever experienced. I am so glad I lived during this period
Superb song ( Thanks Jimmy Webb) by a superb artiste ❤ R.I.P Donna xxxx
Sing with the angels Donna....we love and miss you!
Im a "Yougin" (21 years old) and I love this song. There are some really good oldies out there. :D
If you love music continue listening to oldies I guarantee you won't be disappointed
Same here I know song from my dad when I was a kid I'll never forget it
How did the algorithms send me here ! What a singer - What a song - The high notes she hits gives me goosebumps still and I've heard this track so many times - Timeless, flawless and classic - pure raw power and control - Never could this song be replicated - Thanks!
Unbelievable rendition! Not much for the disco era of music but this... It's the only one that stands tall among so much. And Donna Summer is quite an experience without anyone holding a candle.
One of the most underrated singers ever. RIP Donna Summer. You gave us the gift of your wonderful voice, talent and music. I only wish I could of seen you live. Gone too soon.
Unbelievable. Deeply emotionally moving. A transcendent masterpiece of a musical composition & vocal performance par - excellence. This is next level musical artistic brilliance!!
Such a brilliant voice!! I remember listening to " I FEEL LOVE" in the back of my dad's car (as a teenager) while they were in the pub I bought the album "ON THE RADIO " later ..with all Donna's hits.
Spring was never waiting for us dear
It ran one step ahead
As we followed in the dance
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, nooooo
I recall the yellow cotton dress
Foaming like a wave
On the ground beneath your knees
The birds like tender babies in your hands
And the old men playing chinese checkers by the trees
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, nooooo
[Instrumental Interlude]
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet green icing flowing down
Someone left my cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to make it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, nooooo
I love this song,..what it means really is way deep,..
Thanks for that!!
Love Donna Summer. I could listen to this song on a loop forever. Queen Donna.
2 amazing voices. Whitney Houston and Donna Summer.
When you think of women that could blow (really sing) back in the day. Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan and Patti Labelle immediately come to mind, along with Whitney Houston. But people forget that Donna Summer could hold her own with the best of them. This song here shows you how good she could hit those high notes. RIP Donna Summer (Queen Of Disco).🙏🙌🙏
U aint never lie
Amazing and unforgettable Donna! This cover has become a life marker for many of my generation!
Best music for me and my first date.. we danced to this and fell in love all the way through the record.. we loved it and you Donna Summer xx thanks xx
Anyone who was of drinking age in the late seventies in clubs knows very well how magical it was when this song came on dancing. My memory is palpable right down to the smells, people's faces in a blur to the beat under the spinning disco mirrored globe. Intoxicating in every way.
To me, the disco scene in the 70's is beyond description or comparison. But, you did a fantastic job. I was THERE just for a moment. 🎉
Don’t forget the strobes ….!
Manila Luzon's Park!
luiza 80% disgusting 😍😍😍😍
Best Lip sync RDR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the memories Donna Summer and thanks for making a disco version of MacArthur Park. Long live the queen of disco.
RIP, sister Donna. Wanna dance with you in Heaven!
Dave Wollenberg Would like to but there is no heaven and no hell. Only the most evil god would create a hell to burn beings.
Great song ..... Great selection for Tim Burton's beetlejuice beetlejuice
The queen.
RIP Sweetheart. #1, Billboard, 1978. Her best and one of the greatest remakes in the history of music.
You know, 'I Feel Love' used to be my favourite DS song (EVERYTIME it came on the radio, I used strut my stuff, as best I could, for a 9 year old). But, the more I heard this, the more I liked it. Especially, the bit from 1 m.44 s to 2 m 24 s. Just, a, FABULOUS, cover song. RIP, DS - Your songs will live, forever!
Still sadly missed Donna. But never forgotten. Good night & god bless.😢❤
