A cultural insight: It's tradition for Catholic Filipinos to attend the Midnight Mass ( which is not at midnight, but 3 or 4 am) then buy Filipino rice cakes PUTO BUMBONG and BIBINGKA, typically sold outside churches. Instead of these, the mom and her date brought HOPIA, a Chinese pastry. If you look at the date, he has the features of a Chinese man. There is a sizeable Chinese community in the Philippines, and a someone from a very conservative Chinese family would prefer to date only a fellow Chinese. So I think this ad shows three nontraditional points: dating at an advanced age, replacing traditional Christmas snacks with another, and dating of people from two different cultures.
The original name of the custom is Simbang Gabi(literally means "mass during the night") because it was still dark (the 3 or 4 am part) and it was back when PH was still an agricultural country so most of the farmers hear mass before heading to the fields(I can't remember if it was also a way of asking for blessings to have a plentiful harvest) and the most-planted crops were rice and sugarcane(hence the more commonly-sold food were rice cakes due to readily available ingredients). The hopia part might not be accurate though since Chinese people have lived among us even before the Spanish arrived and they are known here to make great effort to maintain traditions and most of them used to be concentrated in what is now called Binondo, the Chinatown district of Manila, which is far from the fields, so the Hopia VS ricecake bit isn't a big deal.
yeah it's feels like real reaction not like others that watched the video 1st and do the reactions on them..their reactions was the same as mine when i watched the video for the 1st time LOL.(was it just me or just a coincidence?) hahahahhaa!
i feel the same!! as an older son that would be my responsibility to look and take care after my mom,but whatever her decision about her love i will surely respect that since i love my mama, what makes her happy ill give it to her
Just a little heads up.... "puto bumbong" and "bibingka" are Philippine native rice delicacies usually prepared and served during the Christmas Season. The take home goodies were "hopia", instead of the traditional ones, because the mom's date is Chinese.
If some of you wondering why is there a midnight mass in the Philippines?? that's because Filipino Catholic Religion got a certain tradition were we got Midnight Mass (IDK maybe around 10pm till 12am and another mass around 2am till 4am)...days before Christmas and that is still in practice till now.
you always get me laughing with you two whenever you laugh. i must agree, it is hilarious. i dnt even remember seeing this commercial before. 😂 as always, great reaction! love you both
hi ladies. .I really love reactions In every video. .It's so fun watching you two😊😊 most of the video reaction you do its also my first time to daw it. I choosed to watch it with you ladies coz I feel like were watching it together😍😍😍
As you guys, I hope, already know, Christmas feel in the Philippines starts on September, yes that early! Most malls and homes would set-up their Christmas decors when September comes. Simbang Gabi ( Midnight Mass ) done at 4am, yes, am, for 9 days , from December 16 to 24 is a tradition never to be missed! Thanks for reacting on the video. When you visit the Philippines on Christmas, you\ll surely love the athmosphere of families and friends bonding together.
Simbang gabi means night mass it's a Filipino tradition where in there is a mass at dawn from december 16-25 (9 days) and they said if you complete the 9 days you can have a wish😀😂and you can really feel christmass starting the simbang gabi tradition because after mass you can see so many people and many christmas traditional food infront of the church and christmass songs are all over the place💗
It’s an old joke, the Hopia thing. I remember as a child, they’d joke about how Chinese guys would court women with gift of Hopia and in the afternoon, not the traditional early evening. Of course, rich Chinese people, even up to these days are not allowed to marry Filipino. This ad has so many things going on in there 😆
no tears this time,, I am disappointed ,, like to see you cry Angels,,, haha ,,, Yes I was laughing so hard too... that younger woman was in the advert,, Date JolliBee
i was somehow disappointed that you guys didn't recognize the mom, she was the one who also portrayed as the mom in the jollibee commercial "Date". I was expecting you guys to say "Oh wait! that's the mom in the jollibee commercial". I dunno maybe it's just me, but i was disappointed a lil bit, cause it is also my first time to see this commercial and i was so surprised that i even paused and go back a little to make sure that it was her, i thought you guys will be with me on being surprised. but no
Bart i cringed on this. seryoso na nadisappoint? di lang narecognize. sa dami ba naman ng videos na nagawan nila ng reaction. lol. grabe ang expectation ha.

Hey wait up. Is that the actress in the Jollibee "Date" commercial?
it sure looks like her... only now she isn't crying so that's good for a change :)
Angie Natoyn i noticed that too. she's a good actress. better than those in some prime time shows imho.
yes, it's the same actress :)
OMG yeah I think also 🙂 her wife was like in the commercial in jollibee"date" and her mom was also in the commercial of jollibee "almusal"
