When i was sailing alone from Morocco to Australia, i listened many times to this beautiful song at night watching the thousands or millions of stars and thinking about my wife who just divorced me. I was alone, psychologically very fragile, with my boat in the middle of the ocean and couldn't not stop crying,. I never experienced something so painful.
The pain of loneliness, the deep impression of having lost people or somebody so precious that we do not know how to live without him, her, them... Suffering digs into us in the shape of a cup and God then comes to fill our cup, like a thirst-quenching dew... then come blessings and happiness to make us forget the pain, to continue our task...
Wow.....Goosebumps....then tears........again. 1992, decided that this will be played at my funeral. Wrote it down, stashed the letter to my loved ones with the funeral papers. No one knows it, except my hubby, if he remembers. Never changed my mind. 30 years ago it was decided. This will be one of my three goodbye songs. What an evergreen, never gets old. Thanks Rod.
My mom said to me that’s is the my father song , he hold me in his arms and dance with me every day, that’s are song I don’t remember those days, but I love the song because remember my father, his died when he was 36 and I was 8, but I have good memories with him, Elton John, Nazareth, rod Stewart, scorpions, Led Zeppelin, jimmy Hendrix and many others.
My Dad loved sailing and everything to do with boats. He passed away last Christmas. Due to c19 I could not be with him which I am sure he would have rathered us all be there with him. We played this song at his funeral and probably at mums. This is like the most beautiful song and mum will fly over the ocean where she wanted to be released and through the clouds to be free with my Dad and the Lord whom she loved.
My mother raised me on Rod Stewart.. In her death bed I played her this song many times as I remember her dancing to this song loudly . Thankful my parents raised me on EXCELLENT Rock-N-Roll Music.
The Lord reminded me of that song while I was waking up...its so relevant to me right now. Thanks Lord and to you for putting out with lyrics. God bless
To the both of you this was also my grandads fave song also played at his funeral just shy of 13 years ago now. It never gets easier to listen too but always heartwarming at the same time. Wish you all they will forever be with you
Ashes to ashes... Dust to dust... To me, this song is about calmly facing imminent death, not with fear, but with anticipation, of the unknowns that await on the Other Side.
Anticipating the most beautiful and loving and peaceful place when we finally finish our earthly journey, rest in lord’s home. I so desire to be with Lord
Beautiful song for my baby since in the womb. She like it. Everytime I sing this song, she will make a move. And yes, we are sailing the stromy water to hold each other 💛
Back in the late 1970s I was desperate to join the Navy as a Radar Operator but first time I was too young to sign on and needed my fathers consent....he didn't give it. Second time I went to sign on being of age 17 and a quarter I still didn't get his blessing so gave up my dream. This song made me cry so much and nearly 40 years later still makes me sad of my lost dream. Maybe next life.
