You forgot to mention the weight it should not exceed.
I’m usually using the Røde VideoMicX as I’m often filming nature scenes where the sound level is fairly low, so having incredibly low noise is a must. As I‘m using an R5 I usually use the 3,5mm cable, but for those occasions I need more, I hook it up to my MOTU M4 using XLR and then record into my computer.
A combo that might do what you want is the RVMX and the Tascam XLR module, where you then connect the two using XLR (duh). A pro is the incredible audio performance, but as it‘s a stereo mic, it is rather unsuited for talking head and more for soundscape. But I think the Deadcat/Windscreen design is something you’d like.
Idk if he’d be interested Mrwhosetheboss is really passionate about good quality audio and I feel like you could both benefit from working together with a mic company to create a video each and get a fab mic

The zoom m3 mictrak has the internal 32-bit float atleast
Yes! It does!
Maybe the rise of usb c microphones would make 32bit float recording possible but would make the mic bigger. If the camera makers would work with audio companies closely, that would be possible, a small mic. Maybe with sony as they have their own department for that, along with Panasonic. If the cameras can do 32bit float as an option, it would be a game changer.

Rather than doing the normal thing and having specific microphones for specific situations. You want something that is all-in-one always good. And this is how I know you haven't been around microphones very long because microphone manufacturers will never allow that to happen.
You don't get good things without bad things as a trade off. That's just how microphones work.
