Watching this as a young lad. It didn't actually sink in how we lived here. I knew nothing else but road blocks bombs and shootings. All this videos are a history lesson. Fair play for putting this up 👍. The British were playing a crazy game here. Would not have happened in Scotland or Wales

There was suppose the be a series of articles in the Sunday People newspaper but there was only ever one story then it suddenly never appeared again It was from Nairac’s then girlfriend an how she’d been scared off askin anymore questions of wot happened

Both Loyalist and Republican paramilitaries were controlled by the security forces. All those lives wasted, and for what. ?

It turns out , years later that youll be lucky to find someone, Anyone on either side who didnt work for MI5 or any of the British intelligence services.
Problem was British military intelligence had managed to literally be in charge of the whole covert war effort through the force research unit. A unit now called something very bland but definitely the most secret unit in the UK military

Exactly Pro it was as if the Brits wanted this slaughter to go on an on I recon they knu A Bobby Sands Wud come to the top one day an the Brits Wud lose Ireland altogether
@@mikeymc3094 I believe that after the hunger strikes, Brighton then the STK policy begining to be exposed in the late 80s the Brits were losing so they shifted tactic to full on 'Ulsterisation' to start a full civil war between Loyalists and Republicans. I think this was on only way they thought they could win.

As an Irish South African (etc.). Interesting the history of Irish supporting the Boers to IRA / ANC alliance ?. I was in Europe as war resistor at this time. Thatcher and Reagan were huge shit stirrers, at the time, too ??
Most weapons were intercepted both the uda and uvf only the Ulster resistance share got threw Which the uff ended up using.

Just a further note. I think its vital that you inform us in what year the videos you are posting were originally released on television and bye who. I know that this documentary was produced by bbc Ireland in early to mid 90’s ? Forgive me if i am wrong about the date . Such important information

I'm from Alabama and have always read whatever I could on the troubles. As a layman historian to me, the unionists perspective doesn't age well. It's tragic
Very very true. My own father god rest him, was a civil rights activist. He was put in jail and He was tortured for 5 days over the head of it. What unionists did here is beyond criminal. It was evil. The economic, education, housing. Catholics could even vote. The IRA were a product of cruelty by the state. I think
there was serial killers in paramilitaries. And the British knew that. But the "bigger picture" was the only thing. So many bitter people even now in 2022. Its a fucking mess
@@stuffthings3728 In America we are heading down a similar path, we have hard left and hard right. "Them people" and those people" are pronouns in frequent use all throughout America. People talk like it'll be a civil war like 1861 its much more likely to be of the troubles variety.
@@zachsmith3376 Sorry, friend, but when the IRA repeatedly detonated 1,000 pound bombs in Protestant towns and villages, you might learn why the Loyalists did what they did.
The Ira exclusively targeted Protestant owned buildings and businesses in Belfast to blow up so I have more sympathy to the loyalists
@@mrsuperger5429 The loyalists were active before the PIRA existed. They did "what they did" because they were directed by the state.
What year was this first aired?
Great question! I am 99% sure it was aired 1992 and I came to that conclusion as a section within a later Panorama showed part of the episode with that year on screen for a split second.

Maybe we should do an expensive inquiry into why all these ira victims were killed. How many RUC and military were turned into Swiss cheese, there were alot of cops who just wanted to help.... nobody wants to talk about that eh?
