OMG, just made me think of some unsuspecting mom going and taking their 6-7 year old to watch this then because of how toned down it is going and buying the game(s) for their kid and then be horrified at the content of the game.

By the looks of it, they literally got the world, the guns, the creatures, heck, even claptraps design on point, but when it came down to the characters they were just like "Find me the most 'how do you do fellow teens' actors imaginable for these iconic character roles...

Yeah, it feels like they're really trying to go after the visuals and pull people in... and have zero understanding of, or value for, what truly makes Borderlands Borderlands. The trailer felt "normal", kind of unremarkable. It didn't feel mildly insane or deranged or odd or off the wall. It wasn't smart or nuanced enough. It looks like at its core it's going to be forgettable and boring.
Felt like a shit guardians of the galaxy clone.

It is obvious that the makers of this move have no understanding of the source material. They simply acquired some IP, and decided to slap the "marvel formula" onto it... some producer said "To hell with the story, give me some quippy oneliners and explosions"

As a fan of the game since 2009, I probably would have done everything completely differently.
Why even make an adaptation in the first place? The games are just fine the way they are. Just like Uncharted and The Last Of Us, there is absolutely no need for a live action adaptation.
It's pg 13 so don't expect anything related to the games, it's a kids movie.

I'm getting really tired of studios putting the most famous person they can get into roles just because, especially people that play the same person in everything. Kevin plays Kevin. Chris Pratt plays Chris Pratt. The Rock plays the Rock.

You've got a 54 year old woman playing a woman in her mid 20s, a short comedian playing an absolute unit of a soldier, and jack black playing a character he doesn't fit at all. Jamie lee curtis as tannis is also silly. This reeks of a "guardians of the galaxy" ripoff that trades on big name star power rather than talent or good writing.

They could save this movie with one small tweak:
Pov shot: an unknown traveler approaches a table in a worn down saloon. They approach a table occupied by a clearly drunk Marcus and sit down across from him.
Marcus: ah another traveler looking to hear a story about Vault Hunters, huh? Well, im fresh out! But since you have come such a long way. *Marcus reaches for a bottle of liquor and downs the whole thing at once* ill make one up for you. Dont expect me to get all... most... any of the details right."
From there, have Marcus cut into the story every once in a while with comments about how wrong or off some of the characters seem.
I can see what they're going for but it just doesn't work.
Casting fix:
Roland - Idris Elba
Claptrap - Kevin Hart
Lilith - literally any woman who's played a lead under the age of 40
Tiny Tinas fine
Jack black as the narrator and torg and probably any other hero supporting character
Brick - Martyn Ford or vin diesel

this was a golden opportunity to play "Aint no rest for the wicked" by Cage the Elephant. It would had been way more better if someone that made the trailer played any of the borderland games.

It's the Lord of the Rings thing, man. Peter Jackson and the casting crew of Lord of the Rings intentionally sought out less well known actors who would play "the character" instead of "the actor playing the character". This is just hollywood big-wig shenanigans - getting bankable roles as a safety blanket for their investment.

In the first game Roland was actually much more of a comedian than in the second game.

I really wish they would have kept Claptrap's original voice actor, he's so iconic, definitely my favourite character in the series with his sudden change of mood, childish optimistic behaviour and how obnoxious he is. This version of Claptrap seems to be a weak comedic relief with average/lame jokes.
Maybe it's just me but if they wanted us to instantly fall in love with this I think they should have done ANIMATED full length movie with the voice cast from the games. Like full on Arcane style.

@@RomanDoes In general audience goes towards younger good looking actors, not sure if colorful action movie with veteran actresses has the box office draw expected. Personally I am fan of the series and nothing in the trailer encouraged me to watch the movie. So they sure should hope someone else want's to see it instead.
