My favorite page is your mistake page. The cross and the blood. It's absolutely beautiful. I am so moved by it. Thanks for sharing your bible. It is without a doubt the most beautiful bible I have ever seen!!!!!!!
You have just made my day. I'm a beginner at Bible Journaling and boy have I made a mess on a couple of pages. I'm so thankful I found you. It was such a blessing for me to understand there is a better way to journal without ruining your pages. Also I LOVE the way you do your word studies. That is an excellent idea. Thanks for sharing your faith and talent. I'm excited to try again.
I enjoy when older videos show up on my feed. I truly love your style and have been inspired by it for years. Watching this was a fun treat this morning, an I learned about deli paper! Thank you.
The extent of my Bible "art journaling" has been underlining, highlighting, and the occasional in-the-margin sermon outline or sentence diagram. Your art work is very well done. This whole concept is fascinating. I hope it causes many of God's people to spend more time meditating on His Word. God bless.
Your work is gorgeous. I really appreciate how well-thought out your content is. I don't feel like you're babbling or doing this on a whim. It feels intentional which makes it clear and understandable. Thank you.
I am in awe! Your pages are beautiful! I have never heard of using the glazing medium to coat the page before now. I love how smooth your pages look. And gluing on deli paper with a glue stick... genius. Thank you so much for taking time to share and teach!
I have seen a ton of different bible journaling. A lot of them were very great videos, however, this video by far has been the BEST. Valerie Sjodin, you are beyond talented and your bible artwork is so beautiful and very professionally done. Thank you so much for showing us all of your beautiful bible journaling work. I definitely will use some of your great techniques when I begin my journaling process which I am beyond excited about.
Valerie, your Bible Art makes me want to read YOUR beautiful Bible! lol, you've done a marvelous job and are quite an inspiration. Thank you for the tips. Nice Job.
Thank you for the tip regarding the acrylic glazing liquid, it's another option instead of the clear gesso. I really enjoyed your video, your art work is truly amazing and God has sure blessed you with a beautiful talent.
This is absolutely beautiful! I love how pretty your pages are and I am so inspired! Thank you for actually showing how to do the glazing. I've watched quite a few videos on bible journaling and so far yours is the only one I've seen where they showed that part of the process.
Ohhh my you have such a talent!! Your bible is beautiful. I wish I had 1% of your talent to make my bible so beautiful but then I try in my own humble little way and are having fun. Thank you for sharing your talent and ideas Valerie. God bless.
Thank you Zanet. I think talent is over-rated. So much can be learned and I'm sure you are if you are Bible journaling too. You may be interested in a new Bible Journaling e-course I am teaching. We will be using stencils and then making them not look like stencils, so one doesn't need to know how to draw to make beautiful Bible pages. I'll be posting on my blog about it soon. valeriesjodin.com
Thank you. I am tackling the project of "learning and doing" with the Bible Journaling. We are studying Daniel and my notes and stick figures, etc are coming along.
Valerie Sjodin, WOW, i am very amazed of your Beautiful drawing skills. Your very creative in expressing your feelings of the verses that mean a lot to you. Your such a sweet kind soul. May the LORD GOD Bless you and yours always.
Thank you so much for your tips. I found your video extremely helpful. I've been going crazy trying to figure out how to stop the bleeding from happening. Thanks to your video I am now more confident to continue bible journaling with the gesso technique. Your Bible art is very inspirational! :) Thanks again.
Your work is so beautiful - really well done. Thank you for this tip about the glazing solution as I used gel medium and I dislike the crinkle that the page has. So I am going to give this a try!!! May God richly bless your ministry.
Grace,You're right, the gold used really matters as far as brightness and luminosity. I use Golden brand Iridescent Bright Gold (fine) fluid acrylic paint. Blessings, Valerie
Some great ideas! never thought of doing this in a Bible...I color in the adult coloring books right now. This is a nice way to combine the two practices together...
Great idea!! Beautiful idea!! I love the cross, blood splatter, mistake page. It has a message to it for me- I am not perfect, be who I was created to be, love me, always acknowledge the creator and give him praise, honor and glory, trust him, know that his son Jesus's death on the cross was for me and those in this world to have eternal life in heaven. I am to share this love with world, pray for it, care for it. Thank you for sharing this with us and may God forever bless you always!!
oh my goodness, your artwork is gorgeous! I need to check out your other videos. btw, I also have a gel medium glued together page accident. but I love the way yours turned out. it's beautiful.
I looove the deli-paper idea and your work is very beautiful!! You are very talented.......thanks so much for sharing this awesome idea..... can't wait to try this idea out!! ; )
Thank you for sharing your talent with all of us, I love the glazing liquid idea and plan on using that in my Bible, I am currently using matte gel medium and Art Basics clear gesso, personally I want to work on a smooth surface (for painting and drawing), I don't want a texture, it appears that the glazing liquid doesn't create much of a texture if any at all... it looks like the perfect medium to paint and draw on.
This is so creative! I just started looking into creative bible journaling and exploring the different types and I can honestly say I need to buy me a "creative bible" because I would often get distracted and start drawing during sermons or I would have to take notes to keep my mind engaged while at church. Often, times I would get into trouble if I'm not paying attention and I'm 20 years old lol. - Pretty sad, I know. lol. But, I'll look into getting me one because I've been wanting a new bible for sometime now. Looking through my old ones which are still somewhat new. It's too simple for me because it's a "youth's bible." I need more life related examples for me and something that will keep me engaged. This definitely helps!
Not sad at all. Doodling has been proven to help people listen better. I'd say go for it and get a journaling Bible with space to draw, doodle and write as the Spirit leads. Blessings to you as you step out into more inspired creativity.
I am a new fan!!! Just found you and love all you are sharing. Please give more tips on how you do your word study and how you do the lettering too. THANK YOU!!!!
Kraaft Shaak Thank you. Here is a blog post address where I tell about my word study process: visualblessings.blogspot.com/2015/01/going-deeper-from-study-to-experience.html. You may want to check out my "Lettering & Doodling Hope" online class on my website for how-to lettering. I have another RUclips video on a lettering technique too.
I do have some more videos about some of the process especially a Bible Journaling e-course just launched November of 2017. You can see and find out more on my website: valeriesjodin.com/e-courses/
great i have just found you and your last upload was 4 months ago if you are out there you are missed........still subscribed just in case you came back and to watch all your uploads thank you for the ones you did
Thank you so much. I am learning and love doing my Bible journaling this way. I can hardly wait to get into the Word. There was a thing I learned in the process of using the Glazing LIquid - Don't use Pilot Frixion pens - All my notes disappeared on the other side of the paper. I get to study that page again. :>) Thank you again.
Wow! Thank you for this video! You are really encouraging me because I feel inspired to do a art journal through the psalms....I found your website first and then this youtube video. I look forward to learning more from you because it seems that you aren't just doing pretty art, but really studying God's Word as you go. That's what I want to do. I would appreciate any other resources that you can point me toward. THANK YOU!!!
I think you are very talented. I would urge everyone who does this to think past it being your bible. Because when we leave this earth someone else will be reading the things we put in it. Especially in a bible that looks so pretty. Most of the art work I have seen is just that, art. But some people may erroneously add"commentaries" which then is technically adding to how someone may interpret a passage. Some of us older ladies are teaching the younger generation. Weather we know it or not. 1Cor. 3:10 AMPC According to the grace (the special endowment for my task) of God bestowed on me, like a skillful architect and master builder I laid [the] foundation, and now another [man] is building upon it. But let each [man] be careful how he builds upon it, NKJ According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise masterbuilder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. BLESSING TO ALL WHO READ THIS AND WHO ADD THEIR ARTFUL COMMENTS TO THE WORD. I'M SURE GOD WILL USE YOUR BIBLES LONG AFTER WE ARE NO LONGER HERE.
You are one talented artist! I adore your work. Can you tell me the difference between the glazing liquid you are using versus matte medium? Thanks so much!
Hi Catherine, there are many possible answers to that question. Of course there is RUclips videos and classes. Honestly, I started as a young adult when my kids were little. I wanted to draw them. We were so strapped for money, but I asked for drawing lessons for gifts and either my husband watched the kids or I traded babysitting. Then I joined a local art group that met once a month, shared ideas and helpful critiques. Blessings as you discover your artist within...
Just got my very first box of deli paper sheets! Thanks for the tip. I am exploring possibilities before choosing which Bible to purchase for this lovely use. A new subscriber! ~Rose
Nancy Ruth Glad you've asked! This is a new subject for me, one that's fun! Deli paper is a form of waxed paper, but it is not as waxy as regular waxed paper. It's used mostly in delicatessens for the wrapping of sandwiches and such like in the States. It comes in oddly cut, squarish single sheets, all folded up neatly in fitted boxes with dispensing lids or facial tissue box-style openings for easy access. One side of each sheet generally has more wax to it than the other. The less waxy side takes Gelli printing using acrylic paint quite well. These sheets are semi transparent, and may be collaged. The frugal crafter, Lindsay Weirich at RUclips has a tutorial about how to make one's own gel style monoprint block. (frugalcrafter at RUclips to find her.) The thinness of each Deli paper sheet means that more layers may be used inside of tightly fitting places such as within books. They are also less delicate than regular tissue paper (wrapping style tissue) and so hold up to gluing a bit better. Shel C at RUclips also has recently added a brilliant new octopus collage to her video roster. In that video, she shows one of the ways of using Deli Paper in collage making. I've seen some people make their own washi tape using Deli Paper and Score tape. I myself have recently experimented with stamping on some sheets. That's over at my Rose's Art Garden blog. Hope I haven't overwhelmed you with too much enthusiasm about the stuff! :)
Hi Nora, Here is a link to my Bible Journaling page on my website. The video of me Bible Journaling the Great American Eclipse video shows and tells a bit about prepping the pages: www.valeriesjodin.com/bible-journals. My Bible Journaling with Stencils & More E-Course goes into great detail about that and more: valeriesjodin-courses.teachable.com/p/bible-journaling-with-stencils-more.
I would love to do this, but wish that I could draw like you....you did an awesome job! I like the idea of using the deli paper because I could then cheat and trace things that inspire me. Or, I have an electronic cutter where maybe I could design stencils to color in. These are ideas that are spinning out of control in my head...LOL. But, I have to say....you are so talented!
Your voice "Sounds" like Ellen Burstyn! I've watched your video several times and I have ordered the Glazing Liquid. I had previously ordered the clear Gesso, as I saw in other videos, but my experience with the gesso was not so good. My Bible pages ended up all wrinkled and looked terrible. Your pages with the Glazing liquid don't look wrinkled at all. Hope that is how it will work for me! Thank you so much for doing this; It is SO Helpful...especially for us beginners! Have a blessed Day!
Just wanted to say I love your art! It really inspires me. Thank you for these videos! Also, glad I know how to say Sjodin now. That was actually bugging me for some time... 😊
Your pages are exquisite! I just love them and will most certainly be checking out your blog. Thank you for sharing these techniques. I have only done two pages and have stopped because I didn't like the buckling. When you say painted, are you referring to your prismacolor pencils?
kelly barron Thank you Kelly. When I say painted, I refer to painting with fluid acrylics. I use both pencils and paint on some of the pages. I talk more about the paints in the blog post linked to in the description of this video.
I just got my clear Gesso and I applied it to 1 page. After it dried it felt rougher than I like it to be so I took my emory board and using the fine side of it I lightly went over the area I would be painting on and it smoothed it out very nicely. My question is how do you keep the page from curling up after it dries. I tried ironing it with no steam but it is still trying to curl. Love your art work...Beautiful.
Hello Valerie :)Your Journaling Bible is Absolutely Beautiful :) Your colors are vibrant :)What Supplies are you using for your Bible Journaling :) Can you do a video of your supplies :) Many Blessings and Prosperity :)Myrene
beautiful work. thank you so much for sharing those ideas... one question I had was, does pencil erase well from on top of the glazing? I've found I'm not a fan of the gesso either :/
+tascha piatt I draw very lightly on top of the glazing liquid, so I don't have trouble with the pencil erasing. I think if there is too much graphite on the surface, it may smear and turn the surface gray, but I haven't actually had that happen.
Love your work. Love, love, love your sharing what not to do! :))) You mention gluing down the "deli paper" but which glue do you use? Do you use deli paper that is made for scrapbooking or what is sold in boxes and folded? Thank you
+Lynn Williams I've not used the deli paper made for scrapbooking, but it sounds like it would be worth a try. I talk further about the types of deli paper I've used on the blog post linked to in the text below the video
Though I have not tried it yet, I understand you can use wax to keep your pages from sticking together. Perhaps this would resolve your "cross page" issue...
For your page "Spirit of Truth" in the beginning of Acts... do you have a tutorial on this type of work? I am in love with how that page turned out and would love to create something similar!
+PamelyB I do not have a tutorial at this time for that page. I appreciate your feedback. As I work on my current projects, I'm considering what God has for me next. Hopefully it will include some video tutorials. Blessings.
My favorite page is your mistake page. The cross and the blood. It's absolutely beautiful. I am so moved by it. Thanks for sharing your bible. It is without a doubt the most beautiful bible I have ever seen!!!!!!!

Or, I have an electronic cutter where maybe I could design stencils to color in. These are ideas that are spinning out of control in my head...LOL. But, I have to say....you are so talented!
You could totally do that! A great idea. Go for it! Let those ideas come out. Cheers to your creativity!
+Debbie Williams I hope it works well for you Debbie. Sometimes there is a little wrinkling, but mostly smooth.
Just wanted to say I love your art! It really inspires me. Thank you for these videos! Also, glad I know how to say Sjodin now. That was actually bugging me for some time... 😊
I'm so glad! Thank you!
After it dried it felt rougher than I like it to be so I took my emory board and
using the fine side of it I lightly went over the area I would be painting on and it smoothed it out very nicely. My question is how do you keep the page from curling up after it dries. I tried ironing it with no steam but it is still trying to curl. Love your art work...Beautiful.
It still wants to curl even after some ironing but I found it flattens out more over time as the Bible is closed.
This is so beautiful
Hello Valerie :)Your Journaling Bible is Absolutely Beautiful :) Your colors are vibrant :)What Supplies are you using for your Bible Journaling :) Can you do a video of your supplies :) Many Blessings and Prosperity :)Myrene
I found your supplies on your blog :)
AWESOME :)
beautiful work. thank you so much for sharing those ideas... one question I had was, does pencil erase well from on top of the glazing? I've found I'm not a fan of the gesso either :/
+tascha piatt I draw very lightly on top of the glazing liquid, so I don't have trouble with the pencil erasing. I think if there is too much graphite on the surface, it may smear and turn the surface gray, but I haven't actually had that happen.
Thank you!
Your Bible is so beautiful!
+LottaRunner Thank you Lotta!
Thank you
Wow, this is beautiful! I love your work, it is soooo inspiring! Keep it up;)
Thank you!
You can put on Dorland Wax after finishing, then they won't stick.
Very Beautiful
Beautiful!
Great Video, your bible is very beautiful! I find you inspiring.
Thank you Alexis. Blessings to you :)
SO beautiful!
Thanks so much for your help, I use Prismacolors also, now I don't have to worry. God bless
really awesome
I love your use of deli paper. How do you glue it to the page? Your work is beautiful!
+Sue Gordon
I use an acid free glue stick or Yes paste for larger pieces
For your page "Spirit of Truth" in the beginning of Acts... do you have a tutorial on this type of work? I am in love with how that page turned out and would love to create something similar!
+PamelyB I do not have a tutorial at this time for that page. I appreciate your feedback. As I work on my current projects, I'm considering what God has for me next. Hopefully it will include some video tutorials. Blessings.
Yes... But it looks SO authentic!!!
Love this! How did you get the gold on John: "I am the Way..."? And other spots?
I painted it with Golden Iridescent Bright Gold paint and a small round brush. Also spattered with a toothbrush
I love your art work. Wish I could do something so lovely.
What do you use to make the gold so bright? Thank you.
+Grace George Hi Grace, The gold paint is iridecscent gold bright made by Golden.
