    The 1962 Chevrolet 409 was a bad machine, and this one has a rich history of winning drag races with the trophies and paperwork to prove it. A very cool 1962 Bel Air Bubbletop from The Brothers Collection!

    When I was a teenager I worked with a guy who had the 425/409. That was the first time I ever rode in a really fast car. 60 years later I still remember.

    I never could (and Still) don't understand why the "Muscle Car" started with the '64 GTO...Chrysler's 300 that stared in '55 was called the 300 because it had 300 HP. In '61 Chevy had the Impala SS 409, Pontiac had the Super Duty Ventura, and Ford had the 6 Barrel 390 in the BIG T-Bird and then Mopar had the 413

    • @ragingbull94mtx
      @ragingbull94mtx 6 лет назад +11

      I can answer that. The original definition of a "muscle car" was an "intermediate sized" car with a massively powerful engine. All the cars you just named were "full size" cars with massively powerful engines. The GTO was based off of the "intermediate sized" Tempest... and by the original definition, was the one of the first (if not, the first) muscle car.

      Timinator62 probably because it was the start of a new era.

    • @Timinator62
      @Timinator62 6 лет назад +2

      Ok then, it's the "Intermediate" size that's questionable, my '64 Impala SS was was only 4 inches longer than than my buddy's '64 GTO. My SS had a 425 HP 409 in it...still doesn't add up...it's ALL hype. BACK IN THE DAY they weren't called Muscle Cars...

  • @aaronhussain3873

    If the brothers have one, you guys should review a '61 Impala SS 409 (ideally with Dual Quads) - that is definitely one of my all time favourite cars!

    • @pnwdweler4100
      @pnwdweler4100 3 года назад

      Aaron Hussain they didn’t have dual quads in 1961, you could only get a single four barrel, dual quads came out in 1962. Btw there were only 142 cars with the 409 in 1961.

I'm thinking it's gotta smell like cam2 sweetness for blocks around the days y'all are doing episode filming! just like a day at the track, ahhhh. thanks again guys! ▪☆☆☆▪

    The 409 was a great street engine. However when the 409 was sent to run on the big NASCAR ovals they basically blew up. The reason being the 409 was bored out to the point that the cylinder walls were too thin. They also had a tendency to drop falves much like the smaller 348 was prone to doinng.
