- 1962 Chevrolet Bel Air 409 Video: Muscle Car Of The Week Episode 259 V8TV
The 1962 Chevrolet 409 was a bad machine, and this one has a rich history of winning drag races with the trophies and paperwork to prove it. A very cool 1962 Bel Air Bubbletop from The Brothers Collection!

When I was a teenager I worked with a guy who had the 425/409. That was the first time I ever rode in a really fast car. 60 years later I still remember.
I love this guy‘s voice.
I thought I was listening to Ron Swanson.
Beautiful ride!
I had a black one back in 1973 and like a fool sold it in 1975. Was a perfect body, no rust and never wrecked. I had a 425 hp 427 and four speed
One of my favorite cars
💥 How Do You Not Love This💥
IM 74 NOW AND I DRIVE A 1400 HP GTR...BUT I HAD 3 OLDS 442s, A L88 CORVETTE, A 68 HEMI CUDA AND I WISH I COULD GO BACK TO THE BEST ERA OF MUSCLE CARS EVER..ITS FUN TODAY BUT NOTHING LIKE THE 60s. .....
I miss those days. What a great time to be alive, and be a car guy.
Running elevens with this car is impressive!
Car started a whole new cultural Term at the Drag Strip :::Fire in The Hole
"Plain Jane"is a real head (& tire) turner for sure.
I owned a 63 impala ss in1972...409 425hp,4 speed...my God,that car was fast and scared and excited me at the same time.
My cousin bought a new 64 409-425 in Daytona blue in South Philly, it was something.
So is South Philly.
Happy belated bday 62 keep saving cars like these from the junkyard
You known your car is a massive Hit tbat 'The Beach Boys' created a Song dedicated to the 409 V8 engine !
Distinctive car and a Distinctive Engine. Quite a perfect pair!!
Kevin.....it would be awesome to see you and your wife Kelle drive this into the local drive-in movie theater and watch peoples jaws dropped!
Beautiful!
that is one BAD-ASS BEL-AIR
Chevy always made the coolest full size performance cars. Love the 409 cars but my personal favorite is either a 66 Biscayne 2 door post with a factory L72 427/425hp-4 speed combo or a 65 Biscayne 2 door post with a factory L78 396/425hp-4 speed combo
This is one bad ass car, love the bubble top, sleek and slippery fast.
Thank you.
Nice, nothing could touch that 409, in it's day.
I had a 62,63 and 64 full size chevy’s …and they all had tail light trouble…was a constant chase ..this one had the left side out ..haha
Love the bubble tops! The Brothers should spring for a patch of land and some asphalt for these test drives. The parking lot is a bit tight.
Only ever owned one American car a 70 GTO Judge,,, luv your channel,,,,, Awesome,,,
Irfan Khan if you're only going to own one, at least you picked an extremely nice one.
Max Power,,,,, Had to smile as that was way back in 1990 here in England and £3000,,,, no way I could afford one now,,,,always loved American cars and took any opportunity to get in them as worked in an American speed shop, plus a trip to Canada in 1978 got me a few more trips in states cars,,,,,these days nearest I get is Forza 7 and of course museums & car shows,,,, Have a great weekend,,,,
The outward visibility is phenomenal! :-)
We had a white bubble top 1961 Bel air. Great looking car, no power, big six.
Mopar guy here but the 62 Bel Air 409/409 might be my favorite Chevy ever made. Right at the top of my list along with the 69 Camaro ZL1, 69 Chevelle COPO 427, and 68-69 Nova SS 396/375
Amazing show! Well written and produced. Keep up!
As always, great car great video. Thanks.
My uncle had a 1962 Chevrolet, but it was the cheaper Biscayne version, with the venerable 235 c.i.d. L-6 engine. It would be great for a museum, but I have no desire to ride in one.
I bought one in 1965 off a Buick dealers used car lot.
I love how the video (excluding the ending title card) is exactly 4:09 long. ;)
My cousin had one of these in white. Bubble top, 4 speed, 409 plant. I got the honor to drive it once. I think it is in Sweden now. I wished I had taken a picture of it in my driveway.
OMG! Love it
I never could (and Still) don't understand why the "Muscle Car" started with the '64 GTO...Chrysler's 300 that stared in '55 was called the 300 because it had 300 HP. In '61 Chevy had the Impala SS 409, Pontiac had the Super Duty Ventura, and Ford had the 6 Barrel 390 in the BIG T-Bird and then Mopar had the 413
Timinator62 and of course the 426 Max Wedge ;)
Timinator62 I agree.
I can answer that. The original definition of a "muscle car" was an "intermediate sized" car with a massively powerful engine. All the cars you just named were "full size" cars with massively powerful engines. The GTO was based off of the "intermediate sized" Tempest... and by the original definition, was the one of the first (if not, the first) muscle car.
Timinator62 probably because it was the start of a new era.
Ok then, it's the "Intermediate" size that's questionable, my '64 Impala SS was was only 4 inches longer than than my buddy's '64 GTO. My SS had a 425 HP 409 in it...still doesn't add up...it's ALL hype. BACK IN THE DAY they weren't called Muscle Cars...
Oh yeah , plain can be beautiful but under the hood contains all you need know .
Please let Kevin drive some of these cars !
I'm guessing that he might not want to since most of the brothers' collection are very expensive. If one breaks Kevin would either be very regretful or very broke. Sure glad he gets the brothers to drive 'em tho. Wow memories: I was 14 when that car was born and I'm still drooling. Great vid Kevin, thanks.
If the brothers have one, you guys should review a '61 Impala SS 409 (ideally with Dual Quads) - that is definitely one of my all time favourite cars!
Aaron Hussain they didn’t have dual quads in 1961, you could only get a single four barrel, dual quads came out in 1962. Btw there were only 142 cars with the 409 in 1961.
If I ordered one it would be exactly as this. I had a 62 sedan 235 3 speed 4 door and I liked it.
That's a glorious automobile !!! I've got a 62 Biscayne and 58 delray but neither one of um is a 409 or 348 I wish they where though ...
Nice Kevin
I like the bench seat, 4 speed, big engine muscle cars. Mom's race car disguised as a family cruiser.
Nice!
Any 1961 Impala SS 409's in the Brothers' Collection? I'd love to see that!
I'm wondering,do you guys probably run high octane racing fuel in these old beasts ? considering the original valve seats and high compression ratios these engines from this golden muscle car era were originally equipped with from the factory. I'm thinking it's gotta smell like cam2 sweetness for blocks around the days y'all are doing episode filming! just like a day at the track, ahhhh. thanks again guys! ▪☆☆☆▪
Please ask the brothers to find a sweeper truck to clean up those rocks all over that parking lot. This parking lot is not nearly as clean as the one that you used early on in these series. By the way that 409 Chevy is quite remarkable. it looks pristine.
💋
My grandpa owns a 62 Bel Air Sports Coupe (Bubbletop,) Numbers Matching, 409.
You're right, that's the back end I saw!
Best car yet
I still have a Popular Hot Rodding mag that told this car's story from 1984.
Ive Read that when you really got on the accelerator you didnt steer the car But Pointed It...!
I WISHD ID HAD 2 BELAIRS 61-63 AND ONE RED BEL AIR
I had a ‘63 409. It won 80% of the street races if the other cars were near stock.
Yeah, if I were a rich man in the early '60s, I'd have a few of these 409s.
Love these cars. My guess on actual hp is about 500.
I always wanted a 348 or 409 in a 59 impala. I had a 62 once but it had a 283 in it.
Always been a Ford guy, but what I wouldn't do to own this Bel Air.
The 409 was a great street engine. However when the 409 was sent to run on the big NASCAR ovals they basically blew up. The reason being the 409 was bored out to the point that the cylinder walls were too thin. They also had a tendency to drop falves much like the smaller 348 was prone to doinng.
I do feel sorry for the young people today. They gave up the trill of this for a cell phone, video games and social media,
Yeah... I hear that. Can you imagine this latest batch on Omaha Beach?
Every time I watch your videos I think how can someone who can afford all those nice cars not pay to clean up all that gravel in their parking log. I get nervous watching those beauties dance on those rocks.
ok,thats 2 on the bucket list,'63 ford 300 4 door with the 427,now this, let me keep watching, there might be more......
1958 Mercury was the first car with 400 hp with it,s 430 cu in engine...
Hey Suz Hate to " Burst yer Bubble " That Merc
Weighed 6K Lbs.☮️
@@richardkochan460; Actually, that 430, 400 HP engine was available in any 1958 Mercury. A 2 door hardtop Montclair had a shipping weight of 4085 lbs. It could be had in a 2 door sedan cheapy also switch would easily be under 4000 lbs.
Four-speed dual quad posit traction 409
Any shops In SoCal that specialize in 409 engines?
Muscle car era was from 1961 to 1971 in my book!
1970 corrected !
I owned a 62 Biscayne that was 409/409HP from the factory. It was faster when I installed a tricked out 396.
well you couldnt do that in 62 ..ha ha
I like the stripped down look.
she's real fine, my 409 ...!!!
I Know That song.
The low rider community used the bubble tops 409s and thats where a lot of them ended up
You keep mentioning the bubble top but never mention the curved windshield.
My HS buddy convinced his mom to buy one… black stripper… never bested in a drag
Check left brake light.
My Dad bought a new 1964 Impala SS 409 , 340hp, with 2 speed power glide transmission. At the time this car was the only one at the dealership. Was this car a rare one due to the power glide ? I’ve never checked . Thanks.
I wanna know what TIRES it ran an 11 sec. 1/4 on. - Like most muscle cars, TRACTION is the main handicap.
Anyone else hear that banging noise at 3:54 ?
Probably a loose rod.
Size not withstanding, that’s all Muscle Car.
at 3.00 ,burnt out brake light,,,,one of my pet peeves ...1157 bulbs are cheep.
Looks like the left brake light is out
Is it for sale. Price
Giddyap giddyap....,!
Covet...
Beautiful car just need some hubcaps it looks dumb with no hubcaps.
Fo' 09...fo' 09...she's so fine my fo' 09.✊😁
Lucky that thing was never scratched.
It's Said the GTO Was the first Muscle Car ?
This 409 Bel Air Was Actually Faster👍
Turn it on , Wind it up , Blow it up , GTO LMAO☮️
Maybe its just me, but that seemed like a LOT of white smoke coming out of the exhaust...
Chevy's have come a long way--the New Mid engine Corvette does 0 to 60 in about 3 secs...
Super fine 409!!!👍Please check out my 1968 Barracuda fastback powered by a rowdy 512 stroker backed by an A833 4 speed manual. I think you'll approve. 👌
Beautiful car and really fast but I'd still rather have a 62 Pontiac Catalina 421SD or a 62 Dodge/ Plymouth 413 Max Wedge in a drag race. I'd take the 409 or a 62 Ford Galaxie 406 as a daily driver though over both the SD Pontiac or Max Wedge Mopar
Thanks for skipping the song. I cannot stand the beach boys!
You are entitled to you're opinion I get that but be advised, you're very alone on that one.
4 downvotes from toyota prius owners. :p
62 chevs with 327 and 409 engines are great cars
