Watching video tutorials is great but having a reference book in which I can even practice in would be an added bonus. My copy came today. It looks amazing. I'm still waiting on the Rachel Reinert one, that's coming from the US because I didn't want to wait for it to come out in the UK, even though, at this rate, it will only be a matter of days early lol
Ah sorry, I literally thought you meant how I found it lol I think it's a brilliant book. I think i'll get a lot out of it. It's step-by-step and you can try out all the examples on the same page, so you don't have to go to the back to do it. I don't think you'd regret it. I have the colour version.
This book looks fabulous as a technical reference! Would you think it would be useful for other things than pencils? I’m fairly new to watercolour, and wonder if you think the basics of shading and highlighting etc would work for that also?

After watching your review on this I went ahead and bought it (after already buying the excellent Coloring Workshop), and was so disappointed I sent it back. At £15 it is expensive, but I was expecting great things. In my opinion it is nowhere near the Calibre of CW. The main let down is the quality of the paper. There is virtually no ''tooth" compared to CW and I found it very difficult to build up even the first exercises without a lot of pressure. There are no perforations or even dotted guide lines for detaching the pages. I appreciate that because both instruction and 'practice parts' are on the same page this could be why. I could see there was a lot of techniques to be learned from this book that would be useful. But to fully make the most of it, you would have to trace or photocopy onto decent art paper to get the most out of it. If only Helen and/or the publishers had thought it through a little more this book could have been so much better as I so wanted it to work for me. 😕. Sorry to give a poor review but this was my honest opinion as I found it. Result for me was Plenty of good learning content: but let down badly by the quality of paper for trying out coloured pencil techniques.
capyboppy Hi, I'm really sorry to hear you were disappointed with the paper quality. Amazon CreateSpace only print on one type of paper, there is no option to change this. Color Workshop has a publisher which means they can choose different paper weights and textures. That being said, I think the paper in CSE is totally fine; I've created some gorgeous blends in the book which were easy to achieve (see my Instagram). X
Thanks Claire. I don't use Instagram; nothing wrong with it but didn't want yet another app to grab me away from 'real life' ha ha. I do have health issues which probably doesn't help with things.I still like your reviews though and will keep watching as a new subscriber :-)

I wanted to buy the two parts of that amazing book!But for me it is not possible to buy it because Amazon don’t accept cash on delivery or even advance payment!My bank card they don’t accept and I tried it to order it in the greatest bookstores here in Hamburg!So I am very sad and disappointed, I can only look at it here on RUclips 😢!Bad luck but I have to accept it! I never bought something on Amazon but what I don’t understand why they don’t accept (even little online shops accept cash on delivery or advance payments but not the big Amazon! I began to hate Amazon!So I have to wait until a friend will travel to Great Britain but it can take years...so I have to stay without these excellent books ☹️😢!!!
Hello and thanks for the video! I've got both books you mention. However I find the one you are reviewing here very poorly published. The content is great, but the paper and the presentation of the book is horrible! It does not even have the number of pages. I think that the content of the book deserves much more. Besides, it was really expensive for the quality. Still, the content is awesome. Thank you!
