This Video shows you how to build a Survival mirror / Signal Mirror / On Target Scouting Mirror.
The build list is easy to find. Basically it is a Mirror, reflector tape and regular tape to hold the reflector tape in place.
So instead of asking yourself, how do I use a signal mirror just make one of these and have your questions answered. Хобби
Great job, dude! I used to have the professional one until I lost it. Instead of spending another 13 bucks I was thinking of how to make this reflective mesh on my own but didn''t get a clue about it. I had no idea this is that easy and simple. By the way, cute girl. Hope she'll become as smart as you are.
I like that you began by showing how the finished product worked, before the construction.
The tape that seems to work best is Harbor Freight item # 97562, currently $6 for "Ten Piece Red and White Reflective Strips".
Since the red "fireball" is broader than the signal mirror beam itself (as can be seen in your video) you do want to sweep the very center of the red ball across the target.
Another RUclips video on this is: "Retro-reflective Fireball Aimer"
Thank you. I was actually surprised to see that there hadn't been any other videos made about it yet.
Good video! 2 suggestions:
1. Add Black electrical tape to edges to reduce sharpness of glass and add protection from falls so it won't crack as easily.
2. Take that razor & build that mesh you find on the commercial version YOURSELF. Even a four line grid, like a tic-tac-toe pattern, should work better. It'll make yours comparable. Can't say I've done it mself, but that mesh you see on theirs is all that makes theirs better and you can almost duplicate it. If a grid is too difficult try slits.
I haven't tried it but scratching the grid on the cleared circle on the back of the mirror using something harder than glass...maybe an emory board or grinding disk...may work. It seems that if the retroreflective tape is used and it is not perfectly flat against the glass, the aim will be inaccurate.
great diy project! thanks a lot!
For the sharp edges, we abrade the eight edges and eight corners with emery cloth (or, in a pinch, rub them on concrete sidewalk). To try to hold it together if it shatters, I used clear shipping tape on the part that is not the aimer. I have used black electrical tape, too, but I thought the wide shipping tape had better contact. For the edges, the electrical tape seems good, too. See my channel for other signal mirror videos.
❤ great video. i subbed and hit the bell.
Отличная идея! Сделаю себе такое- же.
Good video! These signal mirrors can be seen over 50 miles.
What you can use instead of a buffer pad, you can use a pencil eraser to clean it out to see better.
im inpressed. due to a stroke i have limited use in left hand,, hard for me 2 make things. may i ask u pls how much u charge to make me one send to me in nova scotia? my service dog and i go into the woods alot. thk karen
what does the reflective tape do? can you make the mirror with out any of the reflective tape
All About Jack This is really late but the reflective tape creates the spot of light that you aim with
Hi All About Jack and areyouprepped;
It must be "Retro Reflective" tape. This is kind of the opposite of
reflective tape.
Retro reflectors send the light back in the direction it came from.
Unlike normal reflectors which work like a normal mirror.
It must be attached to the back side of the main mirror.
The light is sent back towards the sun where it hits the back
side of the front surface of the glass and is sent back to your eye.
These rays of light are parallel to the suns rays from the main mirror.

Why not use the disk from inside an old hard drive?
Because that is not a "Retro Reflector"
A hard drive disk will work. Hold it at arm's length and sight the target through the hole, then find the reflection of the hard disk's shadow on the rear shiny surface. Align this reflection of the shadow over the hole and on the target and you will shine a bright flash on the target.
"A razor blade is more manly than scissors" There is nothing manly about using the wrong tool for the job to try and act like a tough guy. It's actually pretty dumb and pathetic. Other than that. Good video. Just got my first signalling mirror from the store and it has the retroreflective aimer built in.
