I appreciate the a380 for its efficiency and engineering, but my gosh does the 747 look a whole bunch prettier! The new -8's are even sleeker with the extra length. Both are cool planes though :)
I'm not sure. The price of the 747-8 to the a380 does make any difference. Anyway, I still like the Malaysia Airlines 747 but I prefer the a380. Unless they do a new facelift for the exterior of the 747 equipped with new cabin.
***** You can't exactly say that as the boeing 737 is still very popular, yet many others planes took over them. Boeing 747 is still very popular and useful. Because i'm sure a pilot would rather fly an actual full 747 than a half empty a380. And i love the new a380's.
Joshua Campii Well, airlines are looking forward to efficient two engine aircraft though. Some airlines say that the a380 is an expensive aircraft to maintain. The reason the Boeing 777x was roll out was because it will be the replacement aircraft of the Boeing 747. If I'm not wrong, I read an article which stated that Boeing will cut its 747 line anytime between 2017 till the 2020s. I also did read this article about Beoing's Yellowstone project. The Boeing 787 was part of that project. In that project included of making a plane which capable to bring more passengers than its European counterpart. I can't tell the future. It will be an interesting future for Boeing and Airbus. :)
Joshua Campii Joshua, there's a real difference in that the 737 has had facelift after facelift and not fundamentally been replaced the way the 767 has with the 787. You're not comparing apples to apples here and Boeing themselves are winding down production of the 747-8i, an indicator if any that this great aircrafts days as a passenger liner are numbered. The same is probably true of the A380, unless they go with a 'neo' version.
It's very sad - the last morning departure of a MAS 747 from Heathrow was on the 12th of August 2012 (so this sight is now gone FOREVER at Heathrow),that now just leaves the evening departure at about 10pm,then from November it's 'The End' -but they will live on, here on RUclips!
I agree , I didn't like the A380 at first but now I love it * I do prefer the 747 * but the 380 has now got the crown. I just hope I grow to feel the same way for the Dreamliner because seeing the Qatar 787 regularly now ,it just seems boring compared to the A380 (and 747).
I 've just heard MAS are RETIRING the 747 from November 2012 !!- last flight Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur Nov 24th - The 777 will replace the jumbo on this route (evening flight) - Morning flight from LHR will be 380.
I myself is a Boeing fan but I admit that the A380 is better than the 747. But for those who say the A380 is better, have you considered that the 747 has been around for 40 year????
Awesome footage! That BMI livery was just as awesome. And the new Malaysia Airlines livery on 830, I though it was only on Infinite Flight app on iPad but then I saw it here and it was real.. lol Beautiful! Nice footages deserves a SUB. =P
Actually a more appropriate comparison is A380 vs 747-8. I love both manufacturers of course but man that A380 cockpit is incredible, especially at night - gorgeous tech
Comparing apples to oranges. Remember, Boeing introduced the 747 in 1968-69. Airbus didn't introduce the 380 until around 2005. Took the Europeans about 35 years to improve on American aviation technology. Winner: Boeing 747
Such a classy looking livery and so much better than the old 1990s style blue/red. Makes this A380 stand out from others like Singapore Airlines and China Southern.
Out with the old and in with the new. Can't stop progress and whatever anyone thinks about how these airplanes compare in a beauty contest, the fact remains that the A380 is the better of the two as far as passenger comfort, cost effectiveness and profitability goes. For what is now a niche market, the A380 is a worthy successor to the 747 series.
Pleasure , I love the new MAS A380 but I'm going to sooo.. miss the ROAR of the MAS 747 ,truely a throwback to noiser days a Heathrow!! but it will always be here on RUclips!!
I went to New Zealand vie Emirates A380 last year. Although I haven't been on a 747 yet, I can compare it to the 777, and this round definitely goes to the Airbus. Much more spacious, less noise and more comfortable. So I guess, it's better than the 747, too.
Yess!! Actually, they will 'Double' the A380 to London. Starting Aug 14, 2nd AC will commence daily service to KUL from LHR after successful participating at FIA few days ago.
I feel like people who say that the A380 is ugly just don't have anything better to say. It's such an amazing plane able to take off weighing more than 1,200,000 lbs with over 6000 square feet of space, that's enough for over 800 economy class seats. It's actually so quiet some pilots have trouble going to sleep on long flights because they can hear passengers talking, babies crying, etc. I feel slightly allegiant to the Boeing Company because I am from Washington State, but I think airbus wins
I agree. The 747 is more appealing visually, but the A380 is a far better place for the passenger and is more profitable for the operators. I guess that's why 20 major airlines have bought it and only 3 the 747-8I.
Maybe they continue the MD12 project which was cancelled when Boeing bought McDonnel Douglas in 1997. But anyway: The market for super-heavy planes like the B747 and the A380 is not growing fast enough to allow any competition anymore due to modern 2-engined planes like the B777, B787, A330 and A350
The A380 and 747 are awesome aircraft in their own right - the A380 is huge modern clean and advanced though the 747s history and classic lines are legendary - and as for the 747-8 its a sexed up Jumbo masterpiece!!!!!
Unless we're talking about the new 747-8. That's even newer than the A380, so it's now sort of like the A380 being some sort of 2008 mercedes, and the 747-8 is some sort of flashy new Ford.
A lot of people say they don't like the airbus 380's due to the mishap with Qantas' a380. But the reason for the crash was due to the engines. So no one should hate on the airbus 380 because of the mishap. It wasn't even a crash, just a little engine incident. And all of them were fixed. So, therefor it is now safe to go on any type of plane with those type of engines.
No need to worry, Boeing won't let the 747 retire. Boeing for now has done some major improvements from the -400 airframe to the -8 airframe, but you can expect Boeing to in the future make an entirely new jumbo jet airframe, if he 747 can't have many changes left, Boeing won't give the market to Airbus, they'll make an entirely new airframe.
+cal tran 747 carry less passengers than a380..747-400 can carry 419 passengers whereas a380 capable to carry 550 passengers. additionally, a380 is larger and heavier than 747-400.
+Brandon Wong but i would prefer boeing..bcoz they used human interface...airbus used fly by wire technology...human interface has less probability to error...more safe
HI,I'm a Malaysian and I also sad for the Queen's retirement, but as for sure MAS is just want to deliver all of Britain's tourist and also Malaysian tourist to a achieve a pleasant journey, more passenger can aboard it and the nowadays technology for reducing the fuel consumption as the A380 is a fuel-efficient.As informed that PW4000 engine consumes more fuel,yah..this is the law of natureand it was destined to be retired..
747 fan hands down but, both are just not what most carriers are looking for. Quantas, Lufthansa, and British Airways aren't going to order anymore A380's and Quantas said it regrets ordering the ones it has and the ones being delivered this year. I believe that The days are numbered for both being most airlines would rather have a 777 or a A350 due to they are more economical. I will always love the 747 though. Long live the Queen!
The 747 can't be beat in my opinion. I have flown on both the 380 and the 747, and I think the 747 is the better of the two. The 747 is the best and is the ambassador of commercial aviation. I love that airplane and really look forward to my trips even more when I know I'm flying on one.
To my eyes the 747 is the better looking aircraft... The A380 has a great macho looking massive wing but lacks the 747's awesome triple-slotted trailing edge flaps (deleted for the -8). No denying that the 380 now dominates with the industry and Airbus looks like becoming bigger than Boeing. Excellent HD video...
Honestly this competition is a bit strange, It's better to compete the 747-400 with a b777-300 on passenger capacity. The 747-400 will certainly lost this competition due to it's rather poor fuel efficiency. the 747-8 fills the gap between the b777-300 and the A380 on passenger capacity, and is also not a real competitor against the a380. The b747 can only survive in the future if Boeing decide to improve the fuselage (composite materials) and wing structure to reduce weight and improve fuel efficiency. I don't think this ever happen because they compete against their own b777 program.
YOUR VIDEO IS JUST AMAZING. I LOVED IT. TO MY EYE THE A380 IS FANTASTIC BUT IT 'LL NEVER DETHRONE THE QUEEN. I'D LIKE TO TRAVEL IN BOTH OF THEM. WHAT ABOUT YOU?THANK YOU.

...and that coming from WA state? ouch ;) You know, I'm from Germany, but I have to admit the 747 design has something very, very unique to it. And it's been an excellent backbone to airtravel for decades. I appreciate someone not going for the usual Boeing/Airbus fanboy propaganda. How about: A380 is king, but 747 definitely is/remains queen?
The 747-8I is a very good aircraft, but on paper A380-800 still beats it hands down. That's why the airlines are buying the A380 and not the 747-8I. The 747-8I is the last derivative of the 747 frame that we will see as it can not be stretched any further. A380 has been designed for atleast another stretch and possibly two without any major modification i.e the A380 wing can accommodate the next planned stretch without any mods.

I prefer the 747, hope MAS buys the 747-8
Now that the the 777X has been launched, I think it's safe to say the 747 series has had its day. Will still be a great freighter for years to come.
I'm not sure. The price of the 747-8 to the a380 does make any difference. Anyway, I still like the Malaysia Airlines 747 but I prefer the a380. Unless they do a new facelift for the exterior of the 747 equipped with new cabin.

Both are amazing birds. In my opinion the A380 should be compared with the new 747-8i as the 748 is more advanced than the 744 :)
Luv the sounds of 747... hopefully MAS continue to use it
***** really? I didn't know that... where did you get the rumors?
Too bad if its true
+are 5th It is true. It's not even a rumor. The MH 747's were mothballed 2 years or so ago. None are flying anymore.
+are 5th Malaysian Airlines had suffered a lot so they decided to sell or lease their A380 to replenished its financial state.
I myself is a Boeing fan but I admit that the A380 is better than the 747. But for those who say the A380 is better, have you considered that the 747 has been around for 40 year????
finally one fair opinion .
although A380 is far better in everyday , a BIG respect for the 747 . its the old school beast .
Tom Chen The A380 is bigger yes, but not better than the 747, the A380 is ugly in comparison
robbieshaft That's your argument?
Benjamin Sow argument? About what, no arguing here just stating my opinion
Tom Chen true. The first widebody in the world
I love this huge beast of planes, and I hope to travel in one of them in the near future. Great Video, by the way!
proud to be Malaysian
Both! Malaysia back to its glory again someday soon!
1:59 is satisfying to hear the takeoff clearence

Great video!
Such a great film this. The golden era.....
Thanks and only 8 years ago.... how things change!
Both r Great Planes! But the B747, is the something special. Beautifull airplane.
747 for the win
Done the A380 twice but have used the 747 for almost 40 years - she is still the Queen of the skies.
proud to say I've been flying with both of them..nice video by the way!
I love the Queen of the skies with the red hibiscus livery.
MIA a380 is beautiful - love the livery :) cantik !
Both fantastic aircraft great upload :)
Shame that Malaysian Airlines might have to give their entire a380 fleet up due to tough times the company is facing right now... :(
awesome vid dude!
Technically, A380 is the true Queen of skies but our hearts are still with 747.
People can say the 747 is 'Better', but the truth is the A380 is just better! however I still think the 747 looks fantastic, GREAT video!
Excellent Video.
Love MAS new colors
I think the fact that the 747 has been retired is prove positive that it has been dethroned.
Having said that, great video of both aircraft.
I WOULD TAKE THE B747 IN A HEART BEATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
Such a classy looking livery and so much better than the old 1990s style blue/red. Makes this A380 stand out from others like Singapore Airlines and China Southern.
the 380 has a long way to go to catch up with the 747's flight and service record.
There so many Americans actives on aviation video.. Ushit people
Charlton Heston would have said...."Reel me back in....It's just an Airbus"
Great video. Looks like you need a wind shield for the microphone.
Recuerdo haber visto esos 747 de Malaysia en Ezeiza, creo que hacían la ruta Buenos Aires-Ciudad Del Cabo-Kuala Lumpur.
