We're positioned well regardless. The thing to remember as well is that we can't count on any of these players being in the 'iron sharpens iron' group until Fall camp really. It's fun to watch and keep up with, but the volatility is off the charts within college football. This staff has done a stellar job of keeping the talent thus far, but it remains that we're in a volatile time in player / coach / program interaction.
Turns out just winning all of your games is pretty logical 😂 In all seriousness though, it's absolutely ridiculous how the playoff is seeded. We're going to learn a lot about just how much we love / don't love the 12-team playoff in the next month.
I like the NFL method where they recede every game! For football that makes sense. What's insane is we're trying to model play a roster limits after the NFL starting this season.... Where are all the extra players going to go? Walk ons also... Will be a thing of the past.
If Oregon gets the #1 seed and wins their first game, they play the winner of the "easy" side of the bracket to go to the natty. I would much rather see Oregon play less games. Its less chances to lose. Its a Human bias thing for sure and the math supports this. If you have a 2 "easy" games with a 66% chance to win each game, you're only 43% likely to win both. If you move it up to 75% to win each game (which is an insane favorability rate) you still only have a 56% chance to win both. You have to give Oregon at least a 50% chance vs anybody, but the last thing you want to do is multiply your chances to lose. Spencer, I'm surprised no one has taken this up the considering people talk so much about "analytics."
Winning the B1G Championship: Yes Please. Getting a bye in the National Championship Playoff after having played 13 games: Yes Please. Football is an incredibly violent sport. Playing the sport takes massive passion and huge physical effort. Having a chance to recover from that has great value.
4 games vs. 3 games...it's just a no-brainer, in my opinion. That 3 week break to the Quarter Finals is necessary to heal up. Your going to have to play the top teams anyway, so why play an extra game?...this is just common sense, because you get both titles in 1 less game. 🤷♂️
Awesome you’re going to the big ten game!!! Scream your ass off for me, rose bowl redemption, I felt like this was gonna happen, what an amazing season!!! FEBU!!!
Spencer I have to concede a point to you. If we were in the old playoff format Oregon would have a much easier path to win a Natty this year. That being said I still firmly believe moving to a 12 team playoff was the right move. With a few tweaks like reseeding after each round will improve the format. I am also firmly against any further expansion.
What is interesting about TE is that not only are they going after a 2nd TE in 2025, it also looks like #2 TE Brock Harris from 2026 is also enamored by Oregon and just visited Oregon again for the UW game. They already have Kendre Harrison. That would make the top 2 national TEs in 2026.
The standard has always been to win the conference no matter what the conference. Also people assuming Ohio State beats Tennessee or Texas is looking too far ahead. FEBU 🦆
Hey Spencer! I’ll be at the game in Indianapolis this weekend and I’d love to meet up with you! This is the first time I’m going to a conference championship game and I’m amped! SCODUCKS
We are graduating our top 2 TE 's so it is obvious we need 2. We need large guys as the two guys we have at 3 and 4 are smaller sized. So yeah, Cure is a must.
The bracket should be reseeded after the first round games and the lowest seed should play the highest seed in the 2nd round. The 1st game for the teams that received a bye should also be playing at home. Seems odd that teams that didn’t win their conference get a home game, but not the teams that won their conference?
The idea of an NFL style bye doesn’t really apply in this situation. The NFL is 18 weeks long with one bye. College is 14 with two weeks off. The 5 seed doesn’t play a conference championship, so essentially has the same amount of time off as the champion. Also, if there’s no home game, what’s the advantage for the 1 seed? Give me UNLV as a warm up going into the quarter finals any day over playing an SEC team cold. I’m not saying Oregon shouldn’t want to win, but there’s very little if any advantage to being a 1 seed.
Spencer as you suggested getting the bye his the important consideration. But, the #4 seed gets the same benefit that does not need to play the winner of the 7/8 seed. In my opinion, it could be fixed by allowing the top four seeds the choice of which play in bracket they want to be part of. Perhaps the day after the committee selects the top 12 those one through four seeds would need to submit their choice with seed number one selecting first and so forth. I also really like your idea that the number one seed will play the lowest ranked seed after the playing games. I'm sure things will change after this season. I will say this season has been most entertaining in all aspects. When I first heard that OREGON might go to the big 10 I was really excited. I did not like the pac-12 conference because I thought it was so poorly lead. Think about who they had as the leader of the conference until the final few years. Could never get the pac-12 channel to watch games because it was not on any of the streaming services I had access to. And I live in the country so I did not have cable. Anyway you have a great show and I always enjoy it. Thank you.
I wish we could end the bowl game model, just have the playoffs on campus until the championship game. Big games are just more fun with full student sections.
That won’t happen. There is too much money left on the table when you play in a 60,000 seat stadium instead of a 100,000 seat stadium. Or it forces everyone who ever wants to win the national championship to build a 100K stadium, even if it will be 2/3 or less full for many of their games.
No surprise Gameday skipped the B1G championship, they're in full-blown brand damage control in the SEC. The parity of NIL is starting to raise all boats, and the SEC no longer has kids sitting for years on-end waiting to play.
A lot of football comes down to circumstance. You can’t tell me you think that every single season the best team ends up winning the Super Bowl/ national championship. I agree there’s no use complaining about it though
@@joshhart4108 That's not even remotely the point. If you are truly a champion, or meant to be one, you don't cower at the idea of playing the best along the road to becoming one, you relish it.
Arik didn’t ever start a game, and barely played any garbage time. I wish he had been inserted early as an enforcer, but Altman doesn’t do those Dick Harter type of things. Too bad.😊
I know nothing but since we have blown up college football traditions the last few years maybe it’s time to retire conference championship games too. (reason 1:Norte Dame) and go right into seeding for Nitty.
If you could add one former duck to this roster, who would it be? Since there is no obvious holes to fill I think I would add DAT, add the ultimate Ferrari to the offense
Only guy who's tolerable on gameday is macaffee anyway.. I don't care if those lames ever do another oregon game.. that said the sec bias is and will likely always be
At least it isn’t going to be The Alabama Invitational National Championship any longer. Yes, The SEC bias will linger for a few years to come. But then it’s always been about $$$ … and gambling, follow it.
ESPN also has Alabama, Georgia, Ohio state and Texas ranked above us in the power rankings. It’s a joke. If Oregon was a “big market team” or “traditional powerhouse”, they’d be #1 in everything by a mile
The way oregon is building we are gonna be even more of a beast moving ahead. Loads of te's that open up running packages with that blocking. And lots of big targets in the pass game. Let your fast wr's tear up the deep routes and let your tes muscle you to wins, really gives us versatility and flexibility to adjust on the fly based on opponent. Game changer Remember 2010? Great receiver blocking. It opens up just about every run play you can imagine along with the rpo. Should be lits of good years ahead
One thing that seems oxymoron to me is that if you are a top seed, you have to play an extra game (conference championship) to possibly get one game less in the playoffs. I think Ohio State might be in a better position than Oregon, and it's definitely better than Penn State.
Hey Spence. Were you there for the 2012 baseball tournament when my team Century High-school came in and upset the #1 ranked Lake Oswego, therefore knocking y’all out of the tournament? I feel like we might be around the same age lol so I have to ask. I have a wild story about that game as well. Love the show dude.
It's also important if Oregon's competitor gets a bye. If Oregon gets #1 seed they get a bye and play the 8/9 winner who doesn't get a bye. If Oregon gets #5 seed they don't get a bye and then has to play Boise State who gets a bye. Boise State is a lesser team, yet getting a bye is a big advantage for them.
No Dan definitely won't purposefully lose a title game, to gain an edge. There is no edge in playing 4 games compared to 3. He wants to win the big 10 and get the 3 weeks off to heal and prepare for their Quarter final game.
Wish it was a SWEET 16 format like college 🏀 . Top 16 teams get in.. don’t worry about conferences just take the teams ranked 1 thru 16 1 plays 16 .. 2 plays 15 .. etcetera
Although the SEC is not as good as years past, id still prefer not to play an alabama or georgia as a 1 seed. Of course they each have had a couple bad losses this year, but those are teams that have a ton of talent too and can turn it on any given saturday. Plus, playing against kirby in the playoffs will be tough and lanning hasnt beaten deboer yet. With that being said though, gotta rock with what lanning prefers. He'll have the benefit of being the last conf championship game of the weekend.
80-20. Losing Sat is a bad deal all around, and could perhaps have ramifications into the playoff, no matter how "easy" people imagine the No.5 path to be. EVERY team is good. FAFO.

If I'm not mistaken. Oregon could be the first Big10 team to win the championship their first year sence 1953. That would be a huge statement to make.
Spencer I have to concede a point to you. If we were in the old playoff format Oregon would have a much easier path to win a Natty this year. I played with Linkon Cures brother in college sounds like he is heavily leaning towards Oregon but nothing is certain right now.

Arik Armstead also played basketball for Oregon early on before giving up basketball to concentrate on football.
Really? I never knew that and I was in school when he was playing 😂

I'll be there man, where's the pregame party at??
Following
Play-off structure is jacked up, but we want to win every game! Imagine beating every B1G blueblood and the conference in our first year!
Control what the Ducks can control I guess. Win it all in spite. Show the powers that be they are wrong AGAIN. The insane jealousy!!
Why can’t they re-seed this year and make it correct??? Is it spelled out differently this year?
Explain why first round bye teams do not get home field in second round ?
I believe after the first round the games are played at bowl game sites
Bo definitely is a studd they stayed sleeping on my boy!
Idc who we play in the playoffs WIN Saturday and check ball
Why are we talking about seeding? If you are meant to be the champs, win em all and beat the best to get there.

Call me crazy but didn’t Arik Armstead play both basketball & football for Oregon
You're crazy.
Also, yes, Arik Armstead played basketball (early) in his Oregon career
Arik didn’t ever start a game, and barely played any garbage time. I wish he had been inserted early as an enforcer, but Altman doesn’t do those Dick Harter type of things. Too bad.😊
Arik Armistead played BB for a year, I believe
Screw it make it harder for 🦆 let’s roll up all the traditional powers in one year I ain’t doubting Dan no more at all haven’t yet this year
Tony Gonzalez played basketball for Cal while starring for the football team. He was also an important part of the basketball team. He wasn't a scrub.
Arguably a better basketball player at the time
19:09 More people need to know about ESEC (oops, I meant ESPN-SEC)
I know nothing but since we have blown up college football traditions the last few years maybe it’s time to retire conference championship games too. (reason 1:Norte Dame) and go right into seeding for Nitty.

I’ll be going to to the game
ESPN winning percentage predicter has psu beating Oregon...I will be in Indy on Thursday. SCO Ducks!
Is this the same ESPN that predicted Ohio state over Michigan. 😅😅😅
ESPN also has Alabama, Georgia, Ohio state and Texas ranked above us in the power rankings. It’s a joke. If Oregon was a “big market team” or “traditional powerhouse”, they’d be #1 in everything by a mile
Of course they say Oregon will lose. ESPN sour grapes because their teams are not in the field. Sad to say, the immense bias continues.
yea espn really bias

If Oregon loses I bet they still get the 4th seed and a first round bye. No way a Clemson or ASU is getting a bye over Oregon
Nope, Oregon cannot get the 4th seed if they lose on Saturday. The first 4 seeds are reserved >only< for the top 4 ranked conference champions.
