Awesome video! As a fashion designer, when you’re not working with leather but working with fabric, instead of using a punch to make the edges of the zipper tape opening, you would make the zipper opening a complete rectangle and then cut triangle at the ends to make the opening. Really enjoyed this!

Leather working is a nice hobby for me, occasionally profitable too. I started by making sheaths for my knives I make and found I really enjoy tooling and carving leather. I really appreciate your videos and this one in particular. I've avoided zippers for the most part, but will use them more often now.

how about a zipper install on corner angle like a computer bag. for example a 17 inch computer laptop and two sided zipper that closes and locks in center. specifically like the back pack zipper that connects to center.

Thank you very much. I didn't realize they sold zipper tape. I've only seen them selling pre-sized ones. So I will have to look for zipper tape-- and basting tape as well. This was much more detailed than I thought it was going to be. It explained a lot. Is the method of sewing in the ends about the same on a bag? Could a saddle stitch be used too?
I eventually want to make something similar to a laptop bag but for a 21" tablet- so I will need a custom sized zipper

so, ive been contemplating how i go about making a leather bag/backpack style thing, to carry my Garret SuperSluice pan and classifier screen in, along with the various smaller prospecting tools i tend to bring. since the pan itself is about 15 inches wide, i figured i would need at least that wide if not slightly more width to fit into a large leather pouch, pocket space. what i want to do, is have a zipper flap on the top, where it is not folding over the hole and secured on the side. so basically, the primary bulk would be holding those two items, with the front face having smaller leather pockets With flaps, and probably some sort of easy connecting button or snap to keep closed. im just having trouble imagining exactly how the joinery would go. so, if i had say, an individual piece of leather for each side of the cubic structure. or, a single piece thats folded over with two strips for the sides. etc etc. since im quite new to the whole leather working craft, but do have some experience with sewing, im just struggling to come up with just the right way to make the strongest joinery i can to make a really nice, but not overly detailed bag, that does everything i really need it to do. for instance, should i sew every seam, or can i get away with rivets or screws. and, or could i just use normal straps to close flaps, or would a zipper be ideal, and how to go about designing it specifically to function the way i want it to. i suppose, a paper pattern based on the dimensions i intend to use would be a start, right? also, would ti be best to fold over the leather edges, or is it ok to leave them as is, and what is considered a stronger way of doing that sort of joint. also, since i intend to hold relatively light objects, it can't be more than 5 pounds total, can i get away with using a very thin leather? or is it better to use thicker leather to reinforce certain parts, like say, the back or the bottom where it might contact the ground.

Hi there, do you happen to have a tutorial on how to make a zipper bag with a seamless bottom? So the zipper pouch bag would be in one continuous piece of leather like a tote bag but with minimal side depth, and a zipper closed on top without additional zipper panel. I'm trying to find this info but can't find it anywhere. Everybody seems to make the zipper bag with a bottom seam. thanks so much
