I would almost agree but, I seem to gravitate to this version even as i just heard the cranberries, I kept having this girl's lyrics and voice in my head. Truly masterful, anyone can sing but only a selected super talented few can do a cover that is better than the original
I remembering hearing this song on a tv show when i was 8 years old. I have always wondered who sang this song and what was it's name. Im so happy I finally found it. Thank You! =)
This is the way that cover versions should be made... it adds to the original, and is an excellent song in its own right. I love this version, and wish that more Chinese cover songs would be as good as this
Wow, I didn't expect this cover version to be so good. As someone below me said, cover versions should do the original song justice. And this version in my opinion is just as good as the original.
I posted an ig story with the Cranberries Dream song and when I saw this I was like i have heard this melody before but couldn't even remember the name of the song. 😁😂
if i am not wrong, the chinese mandarin version lyric is different from the cantonese one... is it? =) faye wong has 2 different versions with 2 different lyrics. cantonese is for wong kar-wai's chungking express.. chinese mandarin one was in her tian kong (sky- 天空) 1994 release album (both in CD & cassette tape) (*the chinese mandarin version was used in one of the 1995 singapore mediacorp chinese prime time drama proceeding song (插题曲)- 展翅高飞. the beginning song (主题曲) was mavis hee (许美静)- zhan chi (展翅) drama story feature these few individuals' journey as students studying at the National University of Singapore. familiar actors/ actress- cynthia koh, michelle chia, chunyu shanshan)
ahhh i know that mermaid film.. because i was the same as your little bro ..lol.. and then after chungking express. that song from childhood memories is by faye wong.. and the film is 'Mermaid Got Married' 1994. cheers :P
my work plays the same songs over and over again over the PA one of them is the cranberries song of course in english but it always make me think of faye wongs version cause im chinese.
HMMM! I must say this version is nice even though i dont understand a single word of chinese! hehe. The original english version have been one of my favorits for many years. but when i grew up listening to english music my brother played that i also didnt understand i learnd to like the melody (beat) im norwegian by the way :-)
hmm, wonder is it true that this song was also featured at one of the Singapore Mediacorp's chinese drama (1995) - 展支高飞? please enlighten me =) ... anyway, that drama was about the campus and hostel life within the National University of Singapore (NUS)... seem to be the drama featured both Faculty of Science and Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences much more than the other faculties. a great inspiration for anyone wish to pursue university education .... bah.. ! =)
For those who don't know cantonese, the lyrics are quite different than the cranberries version, actually a totally different theme altogether. Perhaps someone who's great in english and cantonese can do a nice translation for comparison.
For Japanese, the most popular Honkon pop song is this I say the people to have her sing it with the arranged lyrics ,how about that ? It may go bairal.
Is this in Cantonese or Mandarin? There's another version on her Guo Yu Zhen Jing Dian album, and it has different lyrics, much like there are two versions of Zhi Mi Bu Hui, with the lyrics being different, but only because it's the same song in two different languages. The title of the song on the Guo (etc) album is Zheng Tuo.
Her work speaks for itself. Her vocals are magnificent... and I still stand by my original statement. She did the song for a movie, so its not really her thinking it was WORTHY to copy. And no, she was a classically trained vocalist, she doesn't copy the CRANBERRIES singer all of the time. Have you ever listened to any of her original works? I have about 6 of her albums... so get the facts before you open your mouth just to try and attack me, because I think the cranberries suck..
ah, yes. the mystery is solved now. my lil bro admitted that he's wrong. he had watched again recently, mermaid got married', and admitted that, this song is NOT from that film. so, really. faye wong's dream person song is from chungking express. =)
Hi guys. I wonder, is this the only cantonese cover version of the Cranberries' "Dreams"? or, there's another one? my little bro said, he liked the chinese version more than the Cranberries. something from his childhood memories. but he said he remembered in the chinese film, there was a mermaid character. I've read Chungking Express's synopsis. it didn't mention any sort of mermaids. So, I wonder what my little bro claimed is true or not (about another cantonese version in that mermaid film)
I’ll wake up be sicker after the second dose of my restroom 🚽 because himself off duties 😮😮😢😮🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤ ❤❤❤❤❤looking more fabulous face moods to be chasing more viewers
Will someone explain to me who the girl in the video is? I've seen many videos of Faye, and she doesn't look quite like this. Is it another girl? Or did Faye just look slightly different here?
but americans *do* like asian artists. what about Dir en Grey and whats-his-name...Gackt? i don't know much international music myself, but i have seen a lot of young people listening to that kind of stuff (j-pop in particular).
*I* will be punished by *my* god? Is this "god" not yours as well, then? And if this god *is* yours too, are you not worried that this god might punish *you* for bad things that *your* country - whichever country you're from - did, even though they weren't your fault?
I checked your name, and apparently you're from Christmas Island? Well, of course your country hasn't invaded anyone. Your army consists of Santa Claus and his reindeer. Everyone likes them. I don't see why you should get any of the reflected glory from that though, unless you are one of the elves making the presents.
I just discovered Faye Wong and I have to say that I'm a little disappointed by her Asian stardom. In Chungking Express she was the nonchalant pixie girl you wouldn't notice at first sight, but later warm up to for all her quirky traits. I don't know, her stardom takes away from that.
As you say, you've only just discovered her. Perhaps you should check out more of her videos. Especially her live shows. She wears some of the most outrages hats, makeup, costumes... She's presently on her third marriage. She's about as quirky as they get and I love that about her. She's awesome!
the tv show called (trail of love) it was broadcasting on Hong Kong TVB JADE channel on 1995 the song has been used as the opening theme
i first heard this song in 1993. Still one on the best Canto songs. Love Faye Wong.

I love Faye Wong as a singer and an actress. Thank you for posting this video.

Oh my god!!!!
I think i got to know Faye Wong from "Mermaid Got Married"! Its one of the unforgetable movie i watched as a child: )
I remembering hearing this song on a tv show when i was 8 years old. I have always wondered who sang this song and what was it's name. Im so happy I finally found it. Thank You! =)
WHAT a FABULOUS job you do of this SONG !! WELL DONE
This is the way that cover versions should be made... it adds to the original, and is an excellent song in its own right.

A very rendition of a classic track from Cranberries. Faye Wong never disappoint.
the best film I have ever seen... great!
I love both the LA LA Laaa parts middle and end...
I loves this version
Wow, I didn't expect this cover version to be so good. As someone below me said, cover versions should do the original song justice. And this version in my opinion is just as good as the original.
what’s the name of the original song?

If I remember correctly the version in Mandarin is somehow sadder, perhaps more related to the first half of the movie than the second.
Chinese. And thank you for sending them to me.
Holy shit! What is going on?!
very nice upload...i like this version very much...thank you..5*****
I don't understand, but it makes me feel... nice...

wherever you want to take me."
Я обожаю её. Умница, красавица, талант.
holy shit....piss!!!
he means that very good artists outside the english speaking countries are not given recognation that they deserve
Faye's version is even better than the original, IMO! ;) Love it.
there is an english version, but by a different singer. search for "the cranberries".
hmm, wonder is it true that this song was also featured at one of the Singapore Mediacorp's chinese drama (1995) - 展支高飞?

Música boa demais :')
this sorta reminds me of the opening for you've got mail.
that's because it's the same song
@d19t85 - This version is in Cantonese
For those who don't know cantonese, the lyrics are quite different than the cranberries version, actually a totally different theme altogether. Perhaps someone who's great in english and cantonese can do a nice translation for comparison.
Let me clarify. Ireland hasn't been part of the UK for decades, and that's where the Cranberries are from.
Mmmm, Cranberries.

Wait a minute.. was this song originally an American song? I could've sworn I heard this song in English once. Does anybody know..?
Na†ureIsLife Yes. The song was originally by The Cranberries called Dreams. This is Faye Wong’s Cantonese cover of the song.
The cranberries = Irish smh.... Silly
@pinklover511
Thanks. It definitely looked like another girl!
post eng lyrics please
I personally think this specific song represents British Hong Kong.

have you even listened to it? how is it "flat?" you are clueless
I don't care about the Malvinas. I just laughed at "Forkland", which is wrong, and hilariously so.
Haha. "Forkland Island".
ARKADY63,
Why are you so CHEAP?
I checked your name, and apparently you're from Christmas Island?
Well, of course your country hasn't invaded anyone. Your army consists of Santa Claus and his reindeer. Everyone likes them.
I don't see why you should get any of the reflected glory from that though, unless you are one of the elves making the presents.
better 'than' yours?

If you remember, in ChungKing Express, she had kinda grown out of that quirkeiness by the end when she returned.
PISSS!!
