I am just a Canadian veteran, who wanted to express my gratitude for your leadership, which is only one of your beautiful qualities. I was in for 20 years as a medical officer. I’ve seen so, so much in my life, including upon retirement, I went back to school and became a Social Worker. Also a single mom of a girl who became an archaeologist who is devoted to indigenous communities. I want to thank you for sharing your vast wisdom, and the strength and beauty of your soul. Thankyou for being here Sandra.

HI FROM ANNIE THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO! It is very important message one door closes another opens etc the old saying is true mostly. I am referring to what I have mentioned before that my daughter has pushed me away since she got with second husband and I still have not seen her and my three grandkids in over 8 yrs. My grandkids are in late teens now I last saw them at the age of 8 and 9 yrs old. Now I don't have a picture of them so don't even know what they look like now and it upsets me so much. I could walk past them at the shops and not know its them, they should recognize me as I still look the same as years ago. Their mobiles emails and facebooks where blocked so can't even contact them and it worries me. They even move every two years I found her place three years ago as went to previous house and told they moved three streets or so away but the neighbours told not to give address, well I knocked on every door while taxi waited and searched over 50 houses three streets away, till older man told me the knew who I was asking about and they lived two doors from him he led me there but the grandkids were home he said saw them thru window he knocked with me and we called out but no one opened a door then my daghter arrived with second husband must have been at corner deli he said and she jumped out the car in their driveway and told to me go away did not want to talk to me this was second time this happened it was heart breaking. I feel so alone and can't at all find another door to happiness?

Hi Sandra, I have experience closed doors in my own life and I used to question why something didn’t happen that I had sincerely prayed for. Now in my senior years I can see when I look back that God had something much bigger and better for me. Now if something doesn’t work out I just get excited and tell God I cannot wait to see what he has waiting for me. Love and blessings to you and Arthur, Sheila

'You cannot hate the door that has been slammed in your face'
I can't say how much I needed to hear this. For the longest time, I've always been in love with science. Ever since I started research in undergrad during university, I've thought 'this is the path for me'. I embarked on starting that journey and I've had doors slammed in my face and having to deal with it. My first two tries with getting a research lab, I was disregarded as 'not having use' in that lab. My Prof at the time told me 'you don't deserve that' and it was very true. I was heartbroken for so long. I went on with life and started job hunting, the epitome of doors getting slammed in my face. I land my first two jobs and boy was it a great door. Then, all of a sudden, my dream school wanted me for their graduate program. I didn't know at the time what kind of door it was, but oh was I excited, conflicted, and terrified at the same time when I gave up my job and and went to grad school. To intentionally leave and close one door to open another is a feeling I'll never forget. I went through grad school thru the pandemic and oh was it something. It was the toughest thing that has ever happened to me, as of yet. Three doors got slammed in my face - research labs that didn't want me. So I created my own door, I went to a fourth lab, and got in and stayed in the program. But what's worse is to come and one of the worst things happened - my interest in science dwindled, it was a toxic environment with no growth, and it seemed like no hope at all moving forward. I felt so alone and so lost, yet I hung on to the innocent me that loved science, since, after all, maybe it'll push me through. It wasn't enough though and finally my mental health suffered and eventually I was hospitalized. I couldn't do it anymore. I didn't want to do it anymore.
For more than a year I struggled with that door. With holding on to it, that it was slammed in my face. It was my dream school, my dream to become a scientist, and now, because of what happened, it's very unlikely that I can become one anymore. I've held onto that door for so long since, what can become of me? Even now, I still struggle with 'if only that didn't happen. Maybe I should have done things differently.' And hating that door for shutting me out. It feels as if I am forcing myself to be the me years ago that isn't me anymore.
But, alas, with time as a healer, I've started to consider other options. Maybe it'll help me heal even more, to figure out what really I'm here for to do. What really fits me. I started looking into other programs and checking their requirements. I've planned what I need to take and how to go about it this time around. I still love the sciences, and maybe if I can find something related to it. So today, I'm trying to go into nursing. It seems impossible, but I want to remain positive that there're other doors that will open. That that door that shut in my face is there for a reason for my path in life.
I'm sure more doors will come, more doors will shut in my face, but I'll toughen up and heal each time, I know it. Just like how I'm doing now.

And some doors will open...keep opening the windows, let the fresh air get in your life, always, and keep going on as you're doing, please, for you, for us, for the love of life...you're doing well. Blessings 🦋

Hi Sandra, lovely video! I’m 68 and I just retired after 28 years. I moved to another state with my husband who had a stroke 5 years ago. He is doing ok, with some cognitive and speech aphasia issues. I do find that I miss my friends at work since I haven’t met any new ones yet. However, the reason we moved was to be near one of my sons and my young grandchildren. It’s really wonderful and I am grateful to have family that can help with my husband. It’s hard to believe I’m in a new phase of my life, but courage has always been my favorite word and I am determined to have courage and open that new door! Thank you for your wise words!

@@patsy6589 Sometimes it’s very hard, but I know that through all struggles, comes wisdom and bravery. I have been through cancer, my husband’s stroke and other traumas. I’m still reminding myself every day that I am blessed and I say why out loud to myself daily. I believe that God is in control of everything, there is a beginning of our struggles and only God knows how it will end. We just have to find our way to that end.

Don't spend time worrying about your former work friends. I have found that after you retire, often the connection is not there. I found that strange when I retired but the fact is that what you have in common is the workplace and you get to know things about people because they take days, off they get telephone calls etc. They are not all friends, they are acquaintances. I had a group of people perhaps 12 that I thought were my friends from work. Now several years into retirement I still only am in contact with one. People moved away, formed new friendships, had different struggles and we simply lost contact. I think it's important to know how to let go and move on

Hi grandma Sandra, I've missed you! I felt the same as the young man that you've mentioned, I'm 26yo, most of my peers have already been started working few years ago and earning big money now while I just finished my master studies and just about to get into the working industry, so I absolutely felt for the young man. My field(architecture) requires more years of studies and lots of working experiences, but I know my goals are totally different from my peers and I'm working hard toward it. Hopefully I get to find my dream job soon. Your videos are very inspiring as always, thank you for your advice and words of encouragement. Please keep in touch and please take care, God bless. ❤️

Thank You for sharing your wisdom and positivity with us. I also went back to reinventing myself and realised up here on the North Coast available jobs are all mainly medical jobs and whilst I cannot do that I can help. Oh my gosh. I just found your channel and just what I needed in this time of my life. I'm 69 husband is 83. Things aren't what I thought they would be at this point in my life. I'm gonna open the door and get on with my life and believe it will be alright! Thank you so much for your wisdom.

It feels like this video was just made for me as I was feeling drained out and discouraged for having doors closed at me over and over again in my job search. I need to be financially independent and cried my eyes out just yesterday for missing out on an opportunity, but I realized it's just a matter of time and that maybe there are better opportunities for me. Yes, we should always be optimistic towards life and work towards our goal patiently no matter what the situation is and there's always a door open for us. Thank you so much Sandra. So so glad that I found you. God bless you.

Sandra, you have so much wisdom that you share. Each door is a new opportunity, good or bad it all is part of our journey and every once in awhile the golden door opens and the dancing is amazing. Thank you so much.

Sandra, you look especially lovely today. Beautiful outfit! I love your statement: “We are entrepreneurs of ourselves.” Thanks! When my college, where I’d taught almost 40 years, closed, I thought I’d die. But there have been blessings in retirement, like spending time with my grandkids & NOT grading papers all of the time! Also, as I’ve been decluttering books (I have thousands), I’ve kept your book. Such a compelling story of your amazing life! Blessings to you & yours!

I bet that almost 30 year old young man thanks his lucky stars to having run into you. You always give the best advice and encouragement. I am constantly looking at the closed chapters of my life and my new direction isn't exactly the one I'd have chosen on my own. I am trying to live the rest of my life the best way possible with my beloved husband. I feel like we are in a slump and I am trying to find the enthusiasm I had when I was young and didn't worry at all about the future. This video is very helpful. Thank you my friend.

Thank you Sandra, this was great! I think it is hard for our younger people these days.
I think a lot of it boils down to greed, in our world today, it seems like there’s so much competition.
My grandson ( just graduated last month)said to me the other day,” I’m not sure what I’m going to do,I think I need to take some time and figure it out.”
We talked about cars, and how he would like to get one ,and how he would keep it on the road. I mentioned a mechanics course, and he seem interested in that, & I said no matter what the future holds, if you drive a car, it will always need to be maintained.
We are so proud of him, I can’t believe how fast time goes.
All the best, to the young man you spoke with, things will improve, keep moving forward my dear, time is on your side⏰🇬🇧🇨🇦🐾🐾🐾M
