I did mwd work for 7 years and it was the best job I ever hated..... until payday. Then it was dancing on moonshine. I ran tensor, aps, sdi, and evo tools in those years and if you ever get an offer to run evo tools you need to jump into it. Its a battery whore and its data intensive working the tool after the run but itll do em and mud pulse at the same time (or one or the other depending on your talk down sequence) and lcm or mud weight just doesnt matter to it. Itll chew through a tree branch to keep the pulser going. Granted your sync is gone and it turns on both batteries at the same time to do it but itll grind through it and sync up on the next set of periodics. The rfd is an ipad running wifi and your surface gear is next to nothing. One wire to the transducer is all your gear crossing location.
When you started working. Were you full time or were you a temporary contract employee. Does the company ever hire temporary contract employees full time? I am about to start a mwd field specialist trainee job.
Hey Man Great Video..! Can you tell me from A when you start your shift to point B when you finish and and that happens in between with the calculations and such...? Thanks Again..!
This my 3rd year studying mechanical engineering. I’m super interested in mwd, frack, or wireline. I’ve been digging in RUclips for months and this video has been the most helpful. Is there a way I can get in touch with you on Instagram? Thanks
Luis Ayala some companies do hire with no mwd experience like MS Directional, the company I’m with, but you have to stay updated w their career page. Why don’t y’all have mwd hands?
Luis Ayala hmm so no lateral wells? Just vertical or..how deep y’all drilling? From the H&P rigs I’ve been on we’ve had directional drillers and mwds, but yeah having those guys on location can help you learn what they do
If you want to work offshore go for it. Do not be afraid to fail. As far as working office I would recommend going to a well known prestigious college that has lots of alumni on the oilfield.
@@victorbeltran1954 Thanks, I am planning to go to university of houston. Next plan is to make sure petroleum engineer is for me. Should I go for drilling engineer?
@@Vq.geo00 UofH is a good college, good engineering program for petroleum. Drilling engineer is good position just know you will have to relocate to bigger cities
Yo G, super helpful - thank you. 🙏🏼
Informative, if a little terminology dense. Still, felt honest and was straight to the point. Appreciated!

Just curious but are you still doing MWD?

Adlen arezki MEDJEK it’s a great job to electrical engineers cuz you can move up into the office. What are you looking to get into like career wise?
When you do MWD you don’t do anything lol
In future which is better to have career in ??? lwd or wireline logging currently working as wireline logging engineer
Can’t say never have worked as wireline logger
Do you need a degree for this? I’m a floorhand and I’m really interested in this position.
Luis Ayala no sir but a degree does help understand the concept of the job.
Victor Beltran do you know which companies higher that train you up on it? Currently with H&P on a drilling crew we don’t have mwd hands
Luis Ayala some companies do hire with no mwd experience like MS Directional, the company I’m with, but you have to stay updated w their career page. Why don’t y’all have mwd hands?
Victor Beltran we strictly just drill. So just floorhand motors, and Derrick’s
Luis Ayala hmm so no lateral wells? Just vertical or..how deep y’all drilling? From the H&P rigs I’ve been on we’ve had directional drillers and mwds, but yeah having those guys on location can help you learn what they do

Где работаешь?
Ahh, MS Directional. Home of Chinese Overtime.
Pay still comes out the same with doing reg hours x hourly pay + (ot hours (hourly pay x 1.5))
Not when I worked there. The more hours you worked, the less your hourly rate was.
