I always hear "non-tactical" and "gray man". Guys and gals how many veterans are homeless that are carrying their possessions in a surplus type bag because that's what they are accustomed to?
Try this... collect an assortment of brightly colored plastic disposable grocery bags. Use these to strap things to your bag, waterproof pouches, etc... but make sure they SHOW! Do some "repairs" to your pack with duct tape. Be creative!Make yourself a cardboard sign... "plez help homeless" strap that to the back of your pack. If you escape Gotham you can remove this stuff and have your camo back for Woodlands. You can always add the things back if you come to another city.
Homeless veterans are some of the most invisible people in a city.
    Sad but it works...
Homeless people learn quickly when it benefits them to look homeless and when it doesn't.
    Adapt, overcome!

Half my day I work light construction and look like $100 from homeless. The second half of the day I wear a uniform. That being said the interactions from other people are night and day because of my "monkeysuit". Id rather look homeless in this situation. Use a gym/hockey bag for your gear. Another idea if you work in the city but live in the country is have a second set of clothes for a more rural "walk" or vise versa. Be the camealian.

As one with COPD, N95 masks are useful against particulates. The "95" indicates that it will screen out 95% of particulates while the "N" indicates that it does NOT filter out oil based particulates. For those with compromised pulmonary systems, I recommend a "P100" mask. The "P" indicates that it will filter out oil based particulates (diesel smoke for instance) and the "100" indicates it will filter out 99% (not 100%) of them. Strange, I know. But if you want 100% of any form of particulates filtered out, you will need a "gas mask type" of respirator with a more complex, replaceable filter.
Also, filtering out particulates doesn't mean it will filter out odors (which can be debilitating for some of us with COPD) filtering odors requires a charcoal based filter.

I lived in a rough urban environment for a long time. Black is urban camo. I've been using tactical backpacks for years and they're all black. The average person doesn't know if a backpack is tactical or not unless it's camo, coyote or OD. I wore and wear a watch cap in the winter and a boonie hat in the summer. That cap can fold easily and it keeps the sun off of your head completely. The fire kit is almost useless in an urban scenarios, and on top of that many large urban centers have a prohibition against starting camp fires. I did carry a mini crowbar in my backpack for a while, because I wanted something I can use to pry with, in the event an earthquake happened and needed a way to pry debris and force doors open. I would also carry a mini metal saw as well.
Be careful with lock picks, because they will pinch you in places like NYC and LA (dang liberals.) I carry a cold steel spartan with me for years but I also added a mini machete to deal with multiple opponents, and for the vicious pit bulls in my neighborhood that the homeless drug addicts/dealers would use. If you can swing it, carry a water bottle and a thermos, because you can cook stuff like instant meals, top ramen etc in the thermos using hot water (don't heat the thermos itself, because it will go boom.)
Be aware of your surroundings, don't go down the main drags of a city during civil unrest, use the side streets and residential areas to get around. Dress for the environment that you are in. You might as well paint a big red bullseye on your back if you're rolling through the hood, dressed to the nines. I could go on, but you get the point. BLUF use common sense.

    • @prairiepatriot2162
      @prairiepatriot2162 4 года назад +1

Yea, right on. I forgot about the Pitbulls that all the drug dealers keep, they always to have two plus all their security cameras; pepper spray is generally the best antidote for the Pits and a good "walking stick" helps a lot too to keep them at bay until you can draw your pepper spray or pistol.

steve lucero he is not talking about ever time something goes wrong. If the government state and city was to go down with no end in sight police may not help. And have you looked up what happened at the super dome? Kids got raped in the restrooms. Now in New York a man went a round cutting people and stabbing them the last victim was cut and stabbed he had to fight for his life in a subway car with other people in the car when two New York police officers was on the other side of a door watching it they took the attacker to jail after the victim stopped him. One man ( if you want to call him one) helped him by giving him a tissue for the bleeding. The victim tried to sue the New York police but he did find out their is no law that force the police to help you in any state or city in the USA. Now let that sink in for a minute. Now and a tolled shtf play out with no end in sight is the police going to be on your side or their families you may have stuff they need or just someone else like your stuff.

I feel having minimalist gear and/or modular gear is way more beneficial. If you have bolt cutters to cut fence there’s way smaller pliers designed for it. I’d go heavier on food, mountain house food for example, weighs nothing and sustains energy to get out and put miles under you. Avoid the habit of throwing crap in that realistically you’ll never use. That Kbar knife is tacticool but why have 2 heavy pry bars? If you have the pry bar to get in somewhere get a light morakniv to off set the weight. Nutnfancy says it best wit the “Size And Weight Constraint” get a system and get it light. Redundancy is key unless everything is heavy as shit and you end up ditching half of it.

You definitely need a headlamp too! Imagine you have to carry an injured person with someone else and you need both hands for this and then you have to escape through a pitch-dark tunnel because the power has failed. You can't get a flashlight in your mouth because you also have to communicate. So: headlamp! I also recommend a foldable solar panel and the normal flashlight, as well as the headlamp should have USB ports so that you can charge the two lamps! Sootch brother I love your videos however in my opinion this one is way off the mark. I’m a police officer in Chicago and I can guarantee you in a full riot or civil unrest situation your cell phone will NOT work. I worked the 2016 WS involving the Cubs and no ones cell phones worked in that area. There was way too many people and too much stress on the cellular towers. Another thing fire starters of any kind are not necessary and can be removed from your pack to make room for more important gear. In a riot or civil unrest situation I can also guarantee you there will be fires everywhere. The biggest concern for anyone that finds themselves in this kind of situation is having the necessary gear to get as far away from the chaos as possible. Also local law enforcement isn’t going to be enforcing laws especially on people that are trying to get away. The length of your knife or the pistol your carrying isn’t even going to be a blip on the radar especially if your not engaging in the civil disobedience. A good pair of shoes, flashlight, bolt cutters\prybar, gloves and a good knife are all excellent ideas.

Yes that’s a great idea or even glow sticks are practical for that situation.

One other thing I just thought about was getting a Garmin GPS like an eTrex. When cell towers go out and your phone nav no longer works, having a garmin etrex (designed does hiking) will all the maps for you local area loaded into it will be crucial. A map and compass is good too, but the eTrex can be very useful because it will have a lot of the foot paths and walking trails loaded into it... so you can hopefully stay off streets. You can also make your own waypoints and paths using them as well.
And the garmin has a graphic map screen whereas some of the other gps devices just show bearing and long/lat numbers and you need to know the long/lat of where you want to go for the gps nav to work... with the garmin it’s all visual looking at maps on the screen.

I commute to New York City from the suburbs. During September 11 cell service went out. I had to walk from downtown Manhattan to Grand Central Terminal to catch my commuter train. In a place like New York City it is better to have less gear than more gear. You need to stay mobile. To much gear will weigh you down.
When the cell service died on September 11 there was no way of finding out what happened. I recommend having a small am/fm radio to listen to the news. A power bank, cables and cell phone charger would be useful for normal day to day situations. If you want to be more prepared you can carry a few n95 masks, a bandanna, and a Mylar blanket. All of these items fits in to my a Laptop Messenger bag, with my work laptop.
New York City, Manhattan in particular, is constructed with concrete and steel. There is no flammable material. A fire kit would not be of use. It is dead weight in your bag.

    • @Al-sf3dw
      @Al-sf3dw 4 года назад

@Michael Powell have you ever been in Manhattan or New York City? In Manhattan were I work, the buildings are constructed of brick, concrete, glass and steel. That is approximately 22.83 square miles of brick, concrete, glass and steel. People are jammed into Manhattan like Sardines in a Sardine Can.
In Manhattan the only accessible flammable material are in the Parks or a trash can. The NYPD frowns upon starting a fire. Starting a fire in the City is a good way to get yourself arrested.
It is foolish for a person not to consider their environment and adapt to that environment. For my situation a fire kit is impractical. It is extra weight. I lived through September 11th. You had this mass of people trying to leave Manhattan. It was faster to walk to Grand Central Terminal than to take a Bus. I still believe it is best to take a minimalistic approach to what you carry with you. It is better to remain mobile that carry a lot of unnecessary stuff.
My main concern are lone wolf terrorist attacks. Manhattan is a major attractive target for terrorist. I want to stay very mobile and to quickly move away from a bad situation.

In my vehicle, I have bag with a tool kit in it (multi tool, bigger blade, lifestraw, etc) , one with other items in in it, and a I also have larger bag with boots, pants (I wear shorts almost all year round), gloves, base layers, socks hat, etc. I have enough room in the large clothing bag to put the other two bags if needed and a couple of other items.

I bought some of that lifeboat food brick stuff at a gunshow and had it for about ten years before thinking I should try it and see if it was still good. It sucked every bit of moisture out of my mouth in about one second! I spit it out and couldn’t drink enough water to re-hydrate my mouth go about ten minutes. My advice? Toss it after five years if you haven’t eaten it yet. It is great when relatively fresh, but I didn’t think my mouth would survive the tiny bite I took after 10 years.

The Breachpen is explosive resistant, will not activate by standard fire devices, burns underwater, and can cut through metal with electrical current.

Sootch you have got my attention once again, Your vide reminds me, of Mister Weatherman having Morgan reflecting on the guys in the Groups bitching that any pack weighing more then 35Lbs is stupid. But yours make sense as for water containers I like to pack them dry and pack bottles of water in your car trunk to fill up the containers if you have extra, it will pack or carry it in you pockets. As for a firearm the Los Angeles published a photo books from the early years it showed the truck of a reporters car sitting in plain view was a 6” 38 revolver I think it was an S&W.

Your load out is very similar to mine. Mine is more tool-heavy and has more first aid. And rather than water purification, I carry water because I live in a semi-arid place. I should add a filter. As someone said, binoculars would be a good addition. I have them in my other packs and in my truck, but might add a small pair to my GHB.

My 4-wheel Drive SUV just may be my safest way to travel.
Have a plan and knowledge to access gasoline from another vehicle.
Easiest way I know is puncturing the gas tank with a screwdriver, catching fuel in a clean container or double lined 2.5 gallon Zip-loc Bags and plugging the gas tank hole while filling your gas tank. Go to a junk yard and ask if you can practice it. New cars have anti-siphon valves to prevent what we all did “in the old days”!
I love the Tactical Gear but never want to “stand out”. Try to look like a commuter or a student. Lastly, consider carrying a cane and know how to use it. Great defense, allowed EVERYWHERE and helpful in carrying extras via the “Hobo Carry” (wrapped up gear hung from a cane over your shoulder).

The great thing about the G19 is you can upsize the mag. I do the 15+1 rd in the gun, single 17 rd on person for fast reload and dual 33 rd in the bag for slower but doable concealed behind something reload. The thinking behind that is the 15 is flush, and if I have to fast reload, might as well do the 17 and have a few more rounds in there. The intent is to not get into shooting battles. If I have to fast reload once, probably means it's a losing battle and the chances of coming out on top diminishes after that first 16 rds already in the gun and the 17 rds fast reload. I'm not Rambo after all.

Good video, but wrong color for blending into an urban environment, it makes you look too military/gun guy/police...basically the enemy to the people that will be causing a WROL scenario; should be gray or black ideally something that just looks benign, not worth noticing...and don't mix black with blue, red, or yellow depending on where you are those could be rival gang colors and make you an instant target. Wearing the hat of a local sports team may also be good depending on what colors those are and what city. Also, I think you meant to say that 82% of people live in urban/suburban areas, not urban. It might not be a bad idea to keep cardboard paper that could be made into a sign so that you could make a sign that would allow you to blend in with a hostile protesting crowd.
It's worth adding that they way you carry yourself will make a difference between being targeted and left alone; walk around like you've got somewhere to be, a chip on your shoulder, and nobody better get in your way on there way there, but don't start stuff with people...that's just what you do in rough areas. Don't look lost or afraid, bad people pray on weaknesses.
