Thanks. Yes you can. If you are growing vegetables or fruits, then i suggest you use what a professional recommends. For the rest of the cases, my crude solution will work. I hope you read the description too.
Hi Iris Morgan, thanks for watching. There are 2 ways of doing it - either grow roots in water or adapt soil roots to water. For the first case, just follow the link in the description and for the second case, watch this from 11:27 - ruclips.net/video/aKydmVnazjQ/видео.html. Some species may not be suitable for this approach. I would like to remind you that hydroponics is high maintenance work but has certain benefits too over soil. You can search for water bonsai on youtube and get more ideas. The tree shaping part is the same as the regular bonsai. Hope that helps :-)
Ya, i am aware of aquaponics but thats too much work just to feed the plant. Anyway, I moved most of my water dwelling plants/cuttings to soil now, as the water medium is high maintenance for me. Got tired of it.
+Arjun Tandon Arjun, you might reconsider soil as a medium if you see my playlist on aeroponics :-) Its not as maintenance free as soil but there are some clear advantages of using air as a medium for roots.
Very nice video Vini ji. Sir are you using that diluted npk water as normal watering to plant ( plants which are growing in soil ) or there is some time gap like 10 or 15 days for that..?
Hi Dani Varun, i use a capful of liquid NPK in half liter of water and give to my plants for a few days at a stretch, till i see the leaves are dark green, else i give it for a longer period or i boost the dosage for specific plants which are still light green. For example, gulmohar is very nitrogen hungry and needs double the dosage for a few days. Then i take a break for a week. In addition, my current soil mix has some bone meal and compost too.
Apartment Bonsai by Vinny Chirayil hi Vineet ji... I have ordered water soluble npk of 19:19:19 from hortikart.. should I follow same process as in video to make npk water? Is there any difference in 20 & 19 degree of npk..?
+dani varun ... no practical difference between 19 & 20. since it is water soluble, your process will be much simpler, like dissolving salt or sugar in water. mine isn't & and is meant to be applied as powder/granules. what i have done is a jugaad method :-). Follow dilution instructions given on the label. If missing, follow my method - dissolve 1 teasspoon in little water. treat this as your concentrated liquid & store. for using, mix 1 cap in half liter of water and water the plants with it.
I have 30-10-10 powder fertilizer. I need to dilute it to 1/4 strength for my phalaenopsis orchids so I can fertilize it weekly. How much fertilizer should I add to how much water to obtain this concentration? It’s literally my first time trying to fertilize a plant..
1) Convert powder to concentrated liquid (as i have shown) 2) Pour half cap of this concentrated liquid into half liter bottle of water. The exact math is not needed. 3) If the plant is ok with this dilution, then try a full cap per bottle & test the reaction of the plant again. If it is too strong, the orchid will be visibly unhealthy & you need to stick to a lower dilution. 4) Apply once or twice a week or whatever the directions are for orchids
Sir , u poured the fertilizer drops in the plant bootles which was already containing some water right. So was it pure water or fertilized one which was already in the plant bottles
hi... i was searching for water bonsai.. i found your channel couple of months before... i tried something different... i put a ficus benjamina seedling in water and keep feeding it liquid npk fertilizer... it's doing well... it's living only in water.... you may try this.. also... and thanks for sharing the technique of making liquid fertilizer....
keeping the plant in water is a very high maintenance work and i got tired of so many specimens of mine in water. water bonsai - ruclips.net/video/bGi4WG9IaR0/видео.html and hydroponic ficus - ruclips.net/video/Dh-Eufig7U4/видео.html. both the plants seen in the water bonsai link were moved to soil just yesterday. the plant seen in 2nd link is still in water. will post update videos soon.
+Sankhyadip Basu yes, as i mentioned in this video, npk is just a one part of the needed nutrition. so definitely our plants are deficient /malnourished. for optimal result i recommend hydroponic liquid fertilizers - macro and micro. for brands and products i recommend you contact some hydroponic grower (not bonsai) in your city. i seriously doubt if solid fertilizers can give you the micro nutrients (trace elements) as effectively as a liquid one. most bonsai people are not feeding it, in my opinion based on their fertilizer info provided.
Great video Vinny ! This answered lot of questions I had about this system.Bought some rain tree seeds on eBay and once I get them I'm going to try your setup. Thank you very much for sharing !
You are welcome Hansaka ! Glad to hear about your seeds. Please take pics of your progression and post a slideshow or video on your channel. Would love to see more people just get started with their own videos. My first post was a just a simple slideshow too :-)
+barbara cotie Hi Barbara, sorry i missed this comment. Did not get any notification. The rain tree sitting in a brown cap has filtered sand inside. There are multiple ways of getting roots in water - 1) for small bonsai, i like to take thin green stem cuttings and easily root them in water. after that, i have a choice to continue in water or move to a solid medium. 2) when the medium is soil/sand, i also allow roots to escape from the drainage holes into a sand tray kept below. I prune them a few times till plenty of roots emerge from below the pot. these roots growing outside the pot can then be dipped in water and they will adapt. hope that clears your query.
Hi Rahul, these 3 links should help you get started ruclips.net/video/bmMnNVvfi-w/видео.html, ruclips.net/p/PL8IPB0_oC8k4U0mJj5AZQ0tMdi0851sGG, and www.insideurbangreen.org/ficus-benjamina/
It's important to clearly emphasize that there is *ordinary NPK fertilizer in granules* and *water soluble NPK.* Both are pretty cheap, effective and their macro-micronutrient content varies. People wanting to try this have to buy *water soluble* NPK.
Thanks a lot Dear Vinny, Now I am following up with your hydro propagation and am in it four days; Got to know your suggestion on germinating seeds of Juniper and maple; I had some seeds through On line service and am yet to get the sprouts after three months. please, your wise advice ! My regards for the positive and friendly approach of sharing.
Video is very informative. my feed back on this is The roots should not be exposed to light and also hydroponic nutrient solution is also required to be protected from light, to prevent algae. Background music is louder than your voice and is irritating. Music is ok, when there is no narration or long pauses in narration,, but this one was sort of a voice over the loud music.
Hello Sirji I have seen your videos it's very interesting. Most of the videos are of peeple plant. It will be helpful if you could make videos of Ficus, adenium and Pilkhan plants too. Thanks
Hi Prashant, thanks for the feedback. I live in a flat with limited space & sunlight. Hence, my plant collection is also limited and as you rightly pointed out, most of them are peepal ficus. Perhaps, you could try the same. Perhaps, you can checkout other indian bonsai channels and they might be able to consider your request. Once you learn the bonsai technique, you can apply it to any species.
Hi Alexis, I merely collected them off the ground. Lots of trees around my residence. I never bought seeds or plants as they available in plenty for my hobby. My biggest problem is lack of physical space and sunlight in my apartment. These seeds should be available online for sale at amazon or ebay. Seeds are good fun but even for mini bonsai, air-layering is any day better. Seedlings have a major drawback - long neck.
Hi Madhavi, yes it works fine for water plants too. You can see my money plant at 7:48 here - ruclips.net/video/tMpte73uzB4/видео.html. Also, check the description of this NPK video. water soluble npk dissolves easily, like sugar unlike what i bought.
why you have used granulated NPK with powdered NPK? i mean i only have powered form NPK 20-20-20, so is it enough for the hydroponics? you have a success in hydroponics which is quite good.. excellent work :) and secondly i want to ask about the secret of tiny bottle or i mean dropper? what was that for?
Hi Saboor Ali, that is how i got it from the market - powder & granules together. I recommend 10-10-10 as 20 is too strong and needs more careful measurements but you can do it with both. the tiny bottle has the prepared liquid NPK and it is easier to fertilise the small water containers with it, by few drops into each. for soil, i mix one cap of liquid NPK in half liter bottle of water and apply. Thanks for watching & your feedback :-)
I also noticed that you have not tested the PH and PPM/ TDS of your prepared solution.. you just putted 1 teaspoon of nute in a 1 liter of bottle. I mean i am trying so hard for Hydroponics, tried everything optimum to get the desired result but no success yet :(
+saboor ali ... thru trial & error i discovered my dilution ratio. testing is not required for my bonsai hobby setup but is a must for commercial hydroponic growers. i have killed the water roots a few times due to overdose of liquid NPK. try manure tea or compost tea also.
hmmm.. its my personal opinion that your method is good like you said bonsai or a bit mature plants but for seedlings i must have to go with half of teaspoon or my be a bit more less than half ts
thermocol balls hain, packing material ke saath mila tha. aap koi bhi thermocol ka tukda tod ke ya ragad ke uske chote pieces use kar sakte hain. mai ise light block karne ke liye use karto hoon. nahi toh paani mein green algae paida ho jayega.
Vinny Chirayil thanks a lot for sharing your experience ,just want to know ,in your vidio of liquid fertilizer what soil u have used besides sand, renu nigam
Hi Nandkumar, you can get it from garden shops, roadside nurseries or online. If choice is available, go for water soluble NPK. The one i use doesn't readily dissolve but it still works.
Sir, I am a bangladesi. I am very interested to grow a tree with hydroponics. But haven't found N.P.K fertilizer and there is no hydroponic shops. Can grow a tree with hydroponics by using other fertilize? Please! Help me.
Hi Abu, NPK should be available in cities & rural areas, since both farmers and gardeners use it. But without it, i don't think you should attempt hydroponics at all. If you have access to ground or you have space for lots of medium to large size pots, then that is the best solution. I live in an apartment/flat, with limited space and had to think of maximising the growth rate of my plants, while still remaining in small containers. That is why i chose hydroponics. Apart from that, it is a fun experiment also.
Yes, but keep in mind that your plants will still be malnourished. My solution is only giving NPK and is missing additional macro & micro nutrients. For best results, buy macro & micro hydroponic nutrients/fertilizers from hydroponic shops.
Sir, ur video shows a plant/bonsai tree with well grown long roots being grown in water without soil. Pls clarify if it has to be planted in soil at one point of time or it can be grown in water itself with ur liquid NPK...? Will it flower if it were a flowering plant...pls clarify
Hi Bhuvana, it is your choice whether you want to continue growing the plant in water or soil mix. Both have their plus and minus points. Try both and make your own decision. I do not have experience with flowering plants. i have some plants in soil & some in water. i have also successfully moved plants from soil to water and water to soil also. have a look at my playlist on hydroponics to know more.
Hi Nikhil, you can search online for various types of organic fertilizers. They usually include manure, vermicompost, mustard cakes, fish emulsion, bone meal etc. Organic fertilizers are slow acting, while the synthetic ones are fast acting.
Hi Souvik, yes you can, but use carefully as such a strong fertilizer can damage roots and kill the plant. I recommend dissolving it in water so that you can dilute as per need. Ideally, next time buy NPK of half the strength.
If you have any animal life inside it, then DO NOT do it. If it is only aquatic plants, then check with the shop where you bought it. Perhaps they already have better solutions.
Hi abcd, i live in Hyderabad, India. I got NPK from a gardening shop. you can order online too. buy water soluble NPK. Even better thing to do is buy liquid hydroponic macro and micro nutrients
Hi Devi Prasad, i am not sure what you are asking exactly and regarding which plant, at which time. the roots in water seem to have adapted to absorb dissolved oxygen in the water. The roots of peepal in water are thicker than soil roots, having tiny extra structures on them that increases the surface area for getting more oxygen. also, there is a small gap of air just above the water line, where roots can directly absorb oxygen. I hope I answered your question :-) To know more about this technique, just search for Kratky Hydroponics on youtube. Also, watch this video and its description - ruclips.net/video/wCKDXMP475g/видео.html
Hi Vivek, its the same process regardless of the strength. Dissolve 1 teaspoon of fertilizer in some water and this can then be further diluted as per your need. Try dilute applications first and see if any damage is caused to the plants. If ok, then try stronger applications (less dilution) till you see damage and then you will know what is the safe limit. thats how i got my dilution value.
Bhai hamare jahan Hedge ki boundaries lagdi hoi hai... Uski pattian mundane lagi hai... Jaise k usse Tella or Thuthi pad gai ho.... Uska keya hal ho sakta hai... Pliz reply...
Hi Rahul, my preparation has only NPK, which means that my plants are deficient in macro nutrients like calcium, magnesium & sulphur and all the micronutrients. For best results, buy a good brand of hydroponic macro & micro nutrients.
hi rv k, if you look up on wikipedia, hydrogen peroxide is not a fertilizer. When hydrogen peroxide is mixed into water, it spontaneously decomposes, releasing oxygen as a byproduct. So, people in hydroponics industry are merely using it to boost oxygen level in water, kind of like what an air pump does in a aquarium. It also kills pathogens as a result. i do not use a pump or hydrogen peroxide, although they can help in better root health. So, you can use it. i am following the "kratky method" of hydroponics, where extra aeration is not needed and hence easier to do. Science vs Myths : RUclips has many videos claiming honey has rooting hormone. If you google it, you will realize honey DOES NOT have any rooting hormone. Such video makers obviously are weak in the science subject. I rely more on horticultural science than bonsai traditions.
Vinny Chirayil Dont know much about the above concept of fertilizer , but on rooting hormone I must say that it indirectly helps in root growth in way that it is anti fungal / bacterial, so therefore it helps the cutting to stay fresh in the soil ,so thereby increasing the chances of roots to come out
+rv k +rv k I agree on the anti fungal / bacterial part, but it does not contain any rooting hormones and hence cannot play any role in rooting at all.
No dont use hydrogen peroxide as a fertiliser. It has no essential nutrient in it which can give any benifit to your plant . The hydrogen is available from water.
hi Vinny.. very nice video. can you pls explain me how to grow aerial roots in my ficus bonsais. I have been struggling for that :(. since you are from India, can you make a video about bonsai soil making as that wud help lot of us. when I browsed, they say a lot abt acadama, lava rock, pumice, perlite which r not available in india and expensive too :). pls help us on quick growing soil or fertilizers. thanks in advance
Thanks Samujohn. I do not have experience in aerial roots yet but my theory is that you can cheat by making a tiny injury on the bark and keep that area moist by wrapping a plastic packet. I will do a video later sometime on this but i will post a video here in comments that can help you much earlier. bonsai soil video - hmm...ok addressing soon. on my list now :-)
thanks Vinny for the quick response...your videos are awesome and clearly explained to amateurs like me which in turn creates more interest. I am eagerly waiting for the bonsai soil video which will solve most of my problem ;)
mai apni hydroponic plant suru karna cahata hu training kahan se lu raipur me koi training sentar nahi hai aap koi Aas Paas ki state Bataye Raipur ke training le saku
Rahul, agar tum meri tarah thode se plants ko hydroponic style mein grow kar rahe ho toh hydrogen peroxide ki koi zaroorat nahi hai aur mein use nahi karta. Uska asli benefit commercial growers ko hota hai, jo normally vegetables grow karte hain. training ke liye youtube best hai. aur hydroponic vegetable growers se bhi pooch sakte ho. hydroponic bonsai training ke liye mujhe nahi lagta tumko ek bhi banda milega India mein :-) Poori duniya mein bhi bahut kam log honge jo bonsai ko hydroponics ke tarike se karte hon. see this playlist of mine - ruclips.net/p/PLiDU6YjzHzNcqPRuo1Q1ix53WrrsA4IzS
You are right, since it leads to algae growth & extra cleaning. It also spoils the look for my videos and pics. But i dont have not noticed any negative effects on plants. You can see my newspaper cover at 0:25 here - ruclips.net/video/wCKDXMP475g/видео.html. Thanks for the feedback 👍
Maybe bcos it is not easy to get hydroponic fertilizers in India and the next best solution is to dissolve NPK in water. But if you look up hydroponics growing, most content will be non Indian :-)
You are right, it is not the water soluble type. its not meant to be used as such. better to buy water soluble ones. hydroponic liquid fertilizers are the best
@@VinnyChirayil well i don't know of which brand you bought one cause most of brands now have liquid soluble npk's from long time. They're like in salt like consistency
@@mrdotak6 ... A.K ... i bought a half kilo packet years ago from a nursery. not branded. it was meant to be sprinkled on the soil, not meant for dissolving in water. rest, in description 👍

Hi....... Vinnyji. What is the white ball in NPK topic?
thermocol balls hain, packing material ke saath mila tha. aap koi bhi thermocol ka tukda tod ke ya ragad ke uske chote pieces use kar sakte hain. mai ise light block karne ke liye use karto hoon. nahi toh paani mein green algae paida ho jayega.
Vinny Chirayil thanks a lot for sharing your experience ,just want to know ,in your vidio of liquid fertilizer what soil u have used besides sand, renu nigam
Where from can we get solid Nitrogen, solid potassium and solid phosporous
Apart from that, it is a fun experiment also.
muy buen video, te felicito, desde ragentina......
Gracias :-)
Sir can we use NPK liquid for hydroponic
Apartment Bonsai by Vinny Chirayil thanq Sir...wl follow ur path of experimenting...thnq for immediate reply..
Is there is any substitute for npk fertilizer.
Hi Nikhil, you can search online for various types of organic fertilizers. They usually include manure, vermicompost, mustard cakes, fish emulsion, bone meal etc. Organic fertilizers are slow acting, while the synthetic ones are fast acting.

useful info..
Thanks :-)
Can I use Npk fertilizer 19:19:19 ratio? For rooting and child tree
Hi Souvik, yes you can, but use carefully as such a strong fertilizer can damage roots and kill the plant. I recommend dissolving it in water so that you can dilute as per need. Ideally, next time buy NPK of half the strength.
Apartment Bonsai by Vinny Chirayil okey thank you i am use fertilizer as your instruction video...
Can I use this solution into planted aquarium?
If you have any animal life inside it, then DO NOT do it. If it is only aquatic plants, then check with the shop where you bought it. Perhaps they already have better solutions.
where do you live? & from where you got NPK. Please tell me from where to get it? 😊 😊
Hi abcd, i live in Hyderabad, India. I got NPK from a gardening shop. you can order online too. buy water soluble NPK. Even better thing to do is buy liquid hydroponic macro and micro nutrients
Great video but why the music. Difficult to hear what you are saying.
i agree. i addressed it in description. switch on subtitles
Thanks
hello sir how roots are getting air
Hi Devi Prasad, i am not sure what you are asking exactly and regarding which plant, at which time. the roots in water seem to have adapted to absorb dissolved oxygen in the water. The roots of peepal in water are thicker than soil roots, having tiny extra structures on them that increases the surface area for getting more oxygen. also, there is a small gap of air just above the water line, where roots can directly absorb oxygen. I hope I answered your question :-) To know more about this technique, just search for Kratky Hydroponics on youtube. Also, watch this video and its description - ruclips.net/video/wCKDXMP475g/видео.html
what is the process for 15 , 15 , 15
Hi Vivek, its the same process regardless of the strength. Dissolve 1 teaspoon of fertilizer in some water and this can then be further diluted as per your need. Try dilute applications first and see if any damage is caused to the plants. If ok, then try stronger applications (less dilution) till you see damage and then you will know what is the safe limit. thats how i got my dilution value.

hyidroponic kon kon sa fertilizer lagata hai
Hi Rahul, my preparation has only NPK, which means that my plants are deficient in macro nutrients like calcium, magnesium & sulphur and all the micronutrients. For best results, buy a good brand of hydroponic macro & micro nutrients.
Sir can I use hydrogen peroxide as liquid fertilizer as ive seen in many videoa it also helps in plant growth
hi rv k, if you look up on wikipedia, hydrogen peroxide is not a fertilizer.
The hydrogen is available from water.
rv k , Use translucent pots i stead of transparent ones. Your problem will get solved.
hydroponic ki trening Kaha hoti hai India me
Can we do this with tamarind sapling?
It should work with most trees. Let the roots grow into water a bit before fertilizing.
hi Vinny.. very nice video. can you pls explain me how to grow aerial roots in my ficus bonsais.

I am eagerly waiting for the bonsai soil video which will solve most of my problem ;)

hydroponic me hydrogen peroxide Kitna use karna hai 1 litre me
Rahul, agar tum meri tarah thode se plants ko hydroponic style mein grow kar rahe ho toh hydrogen peroxide ki koi zaroorat nahi hai aur mein use nahi karta. Uska asli benefit commercial growers ko hota hai, jo normally vegetables grow karte hain. training ke liye youtube best hai. aur hydroponic vegetable growers se bhi pooch sakte ho. hydroponic bonsai training ke liye mujhe nahi lagta tumko ek bhi banda milega India mein :-) Poori duniya mein bhi bahut kam log honge jo bonsai ko hydroponics ke tarike se karte hon. see this playlist of mine - ruclips.net/p/PLiDU6YjzHzNcqPRuo1Q1ix53WrrsA4IzS

Background music is too annoying. Not able to hear many words because of loud music
Thanks for the feedback. The solution is mentioned in the description.
Your music is too loud!
yes & thank you for feedback. i have addressed it in the description already.
Sir very wide information but no need of music
Thanks for the feedback Alka and i agree. I have addressed it in the description.
Music too loud.can't understand you.sorry
Hi R Atwal, thanks for the feedback and I am aware of it. It is mentioned in the description.
Why music? That's very irritating
Hi Bharati, yes i agree. Its mentioned in the description. Thanks for watching & your feedback 👍
your lower containers should NOT b transparent as it will create fungi .

I don't know why all the people in RUclips with videos about this, are Indians.
Maybe bcos it is not easy to get hydroponic fertilizers in India and the next best solution is to dissolve NPK in water. But if you look up hydroponics growing, most content will be non Indian :-)

Vinny Chirayil , where can v get green mos which u have used in your dead wood pepal bonzai
Your npk is not of good quality, solubility is bad.
A.K ... i bought a half kilo packet years ago from a nursery. not branded. it was meant to be sprinkled on the soil, not meant for dissolving in water. rest, in description 👍
where do you live? & from where you got NPK. Please tell me from where to get it? 😊 😊
