Thanks so much - I started out in KM funnily enough and then switched when I moved back home to the UK. Have swapped a couple of times but always end up back at miles!
That’s awesome - Manchester was my first, and a great place to aim for that time. How are you handling the 70km weeks? How’s it looking scheduling wise?
@@pksrunsi haven't actually started mine yet 😅😂 I hate long plans so I'm starting on Feb 3rd with a 12 week plan, main thing that helped me last time were the 20m+ sessions with marathon pace thrown in
woof!!! love that. In the run up to Loch Ness I did a 22 miler with 2 x 3miles at marathon pace in the middle and it broke me first time around (turned out I was ill) but such a good test in the final month of training!
@@pksruns I say, the more breaking the better 😂 in my last block the worst session was 2K WU ~ (3 X 10K @ 6:40m - 1K Float) ~ 2K CD, truly dead after that one 😅
Also just finished week 1 of Edinburgh marathon training. Found the structure really good however struggling to find the time required, 2 young childern and work commitments with the shocking weather of late
Marathon training with you children is a serious business so well done for even having the energy to sign up!!! My girls are all teenagers now which makes things a bit easier for me! The weather… urgh! How’s it going so far though?
Well, I’ve never raced a 5 or 10k - I only really got interested in races this last 2 years! I did a parkrun before Christmas in 17:50 ish. Last half marathon I raced was 1:24:30 but that was a bit of an odd one 🤣. How about you?
Yeah I completely agree - definitely tweaking it as I go! After yesterday's interval session, today's easy pace wasn't anywhere near "target" pace and felt far more like a recovery than "easy". Certainly raises questions for people who haven't got experience of plans, or don't read lots of running books!
Interesting to run how you feel! I’ve tried to run slow pace 9:55pm (my plan) for long runs but end up at my comfortable pace at 8:21pm. First marathon @26m London 2025 so don’t want to burn out. Is it important I should stick to a slower pace on longer runs?
Try running with a heart rate monitor and stick to zone 2 for your long runs. Joel Friel will show you how to work out your heart rate zones. I use a corus arm heart rate monitor. My runs at the moment are 20 secs to 30 secs slower than what I would consider my easy pace
I think pace can be really tricky to work with as 9:55 some days feels super slow, and on other days that would be all I feel I can manage. I spent a number of years doing slower pace almost exclusively - was very influenced by Maffetone method and the 80/20 running book by Matt Fitzgerald - worth a read if you’ve not already! I’m a big advocate of slow - I suspect the further I get into my training the more I’ll run slow on longer runs!
Unsolicited, but lets throw it out there... 7.00-7.40 for easy pace seems quite quick indeed. It's very difficult to go "too slow" but very easy to go "too quick" for easy runs. Consider these target paces 😅
Yup 100% agree - would love to chat to Ben Parkes to understand what theory / method he uses to get to that pace! Slower definitely feels more comfortable most of the time esp when you start throwing in HARD sessions on other days
Yeah - I used about 2 weeks of the plan for Loch Ness and ended up doing my own thing (mostly super slow) which paid off! I spend a lot of time thinking about what my training philosophy would be if I can articulate it! Have subbed to the podcast 😊
Please put /km as well as / mile
Haha I will try to do this in the future - it’ll be a whole new world for me! The KM times confuse me no end 🤣
@pksruns thank you. Yes I'm the same, but the opposite if that makes sense! Enjoying the London marathon series so far and good luck

@@pksruns Yes I was going to ask the same as I run metrically!
Really great video mate. Honest yet inspiring!
Week 3 for Manchester. Going for sub 3:10. 70km week. 3 weeks of 70km a week. First time ever. And feeling strong 💪🏽 Paul

Great video mate! Really enjoyed it!
Thanks so much - appreciate the feedback 👊🏼
Great video once again, will be great comparing notes to see what I can change in my plan 👊👊
Thanks so much! any thing working well for you?

Compared to the tempo 6:24 "easy" 7 low pace seems to be really overcooking at this stage. GL by the way.

Definitely running to HR is the easiest way to manage 'effort' 😊

@pksruns it's too quick. I downloaded the Sub3 and never even bothered. Look up the Physiology of Endurance podcast with Dan Nash 👌
