- Vier Tondichtungen nach Arnold Böcklin
The last of four tone poems by Max Reger (1873-1916) on paintings by Arnold Böcklin (1827-1901). This work was composed on the subject of Böcklin's "Bacchanal." Hermann Abendroth conducts the Royal Concertgebouw, 1941.
@gervan52 The article is called "Classical myth in music, a selective list" and I found it using the JSTOR database
@gervan52 When I made this video, I was also confused because "Bacchanal" does not appear as a title in lists of paintings by Boecklin. However, I found an old article where Reger's Bacchanal was listed with the description "A beer festival in Roman costume," so there can be little doubt that "Roman May Festival" is the right painting.
@gervan52 You can find it under the title "Roman May Festival" in Google images or other websites.
You are not the only one who thinks this is the right painting. There is another posting of this Reger-piece (ferarrigianelli). Thank you for your help. I will try to find the truth. Where can I find the old article you spoke of?
Thank you very much, I found this picture. But are you really sure this is the picture that Reger describes in his music "Bacchanal"? Is this picture also called Bacchanal?
The other pictures are easy to find, but with this one I am confused.
Where did you find the picture? Is it anywhere on internet?
