I remember a lot of these things happening… On the iceberg site, you can request to add submissions to the iceberg and I was lucky enough to have some of them actually added by the iceberg creator (such as “Baileys sponsors Eurovision” and “Aidan DQd for promoting his song”) Also, according to TV Tropes, the whole “Game over bitch!” thing was in the original version of the song but it was removed
Hello! About Blanco "little" problems, the song that he tried to perform its this song called "l'isola dela rose" or in english "The Rose's Island" lead single of his album "Innamorato" so... the song itself is very emotional, so the original plan was he in the almost end of the song will be starting to throw roses and doing stuff with the roses, but yeah he had some technical problems and he finshed doing thath instead, but he forgot something, the rose is a very important symbol for San Remo, Italy, so yeah thats why it was very hated back then in italy
@@sentient.dumpling he was supposed to just roll around a bit in the roses (in fact they had all their thorns removed) but instead he trashed the entire stage when he couldn't hear the music anymore. If he had stuck to his original performance he wouldn't have been so heavily criticised
Yeah, there's a similar scene in the MV, so I always thought it was originally planned, he went kind of overboard on the poor roses, and most people probably hadn't seen the MV, so it just looks like he's trashing the stage on a tantrum. So a comedy of errors, in a way

Regarding the german selection / Ikke Hüftgold drama: I am german and i have some insights to the whole situation. The german broadcaster NDR who has the rights for the ESC has held the germany pre-selection in recent years. As a part of the regional tv broadcasters in Germany the NDR belongs to the ARD, which was the first national television broadcaster back in the day. The ARD and the NDR are traditionally broadcasters for the older demographic in Germany. As a consequence of the poor results of Germany in the ESC in recent years, the NDR received a lot of backlash for picking blant and radio-friendly songs ahead of the national final. So in 2023 they implemented the TikTok pre-selection as a approach to gain more attention from younger folks and give more unknown/new singers a chance to enter the national final. The problem was that the NDR was hesitant to choose a well-known „Ballermann“-singer like Ikke Hüftgold for the national final because he didn‘t fit their vibe of choosing songs. So they let him enter the TikTok-vote which of course led him to win by a mile because of his popularity amongst german schlager fans. He also received a lot of votes by the public in the german final because of this and the frustration the german public is having the last years in regards to the ESC. I think they held the national final at such a late time because they wanted to avoid the older people who would certainly watch the national final and possibly vote for a more boring song because it is broadcasted on the ARD.
39:30 I'm sorry but that's not all there is about Rosa Chemical's kiss with Fedez, at all. It wasn't just a kiss. While still singing he walked off the stage, twerked on Fedez's lap mimicking a sexual act on his crotch, while Fedez was visibily uncomfortable and awkwardly looked around and had to go along with it, briefly acting like he was enjoying it. Then Rosa Chemical dragged him onto the stage to finish off his song with a very long french kiss. Mind you, Fedez is married with small children, and this wasn't rehearsed or planned. As later revealed, it had only been jokingly mentioned as a dare one time long before. There was also footage of Fedez's wife confronting him while visibly upset, asking what that was all about, during a commercial break. At the time she was co-hosting Sanremo, and she knew this little stupid scene was going to move the spotlight from her to Fedez, who was only there as part of the VIP audience, ruining her big moment in the media coverage. While Rai and Sanremo used to be notorious for appealing to a more conservative and older audience, this hasn't been so much the case for the last couple of decades. But Rai being the national broadcaster, and Sanremo the biggest and most followed show of the year in Italian TV, they certainly need to be careful about this sort of things, especially when such unplanned graphic sexual innuendos are done at prime time, in front of millions of shocked boomers and children watching. Especially when the government in power and indirectly in charge of Rai is a right wing one with conservative views, making their relationship with Rai less easy. Anyway, the scandal wasn't even so big at all, but it certainly wasn't just a peck that outraged some people. All in all it was just yet another thing empty of any meaning, only made "to outrage" the big bad conservative boomer audience that everyone is so eager to outrage, when in reality it's just distasteful, unnecessary and boring.
Actually the Vidbir delay may be a reference to the camera delay during the interview of the jury. Idk what to call that part but I noticed it when Taras Topolia was interviewed.

i know im super late but a "eurovison latin america" won't ever be popular. We already have something similar with Viña del Mar's Festival and no one cares about that except the people to go to it lol.
The thing with Blanka's dress from Turquoise Carpet was also that it was green and some people treated it as green screen and "uploaded" there different performances like Jann with Gladiator (the supposed fan fav of Polish 2023 NF) or The Ride (ESC 2021 Polish entry), what made this even more hilarious 😆
So, I know you didn't want context for Loreen's stage invader but I'm insane so here: the person was an enviromental activist and the sign said "restore the wetlands", the messege coming from a group of activists who fight to restore the destroyed natural wetlands of Sweden. They have also interrupted Swedish Idol and Strictly come dancing before and they usually just hold up a sign with their (in my opinion, based) message to then get drop kicked off stage. Loreen did not mind the interruption either and said afterwards: "I was in my own world up there, I thought someone just wanted to come up and dance. We're all human and many of us want to stand up for the things we believe in, so I get why they did it." Anyway, loved the video, gave me a nice throwback to this frankly bonkers season.
Serbia and Kosovo have made an agreement to de-escalate their relations. One of the agreements points is that Serbia can't oppose Kosovo's application to any international organisations, so if all goes well Kosovo will be in Eurovision in the near future.
Serbia has, however, clarified that they would still oppose Kosovo entering the UN, which would make Kosovar membership in the ITU (a requirement for EBU membership) siginificantly more difficult. While non-UN members can in theory join the ITU, it would require two thirds of ITU members (at least 129 countries) to approve of their membership. With just 101 ITU members recognizing Kosovo as independent, that seems unlikely.
@@BrickmotionYT What the Serbian prime minister said is that they don't want support the Kosovar accension to the un which could still mean they would just abstain in the vote and if they voted against they would be de-facto breaking the agreement so will see how things develop.
You missed out a huge part of the “Wiwibloggs on Benidorm Jury” entry. That started as a rumour on Reddit where someone who claimed to work for RTVE said that he William had been hired to be on the jury at BF. That turned out to be partially true - he had been, but the person who claimed it didn’t work for RTVE, and made the whole thing up. They later admitted that it was all a lie, but they had guessed it was the case because Eva Mora, then Head of Delegation for Spain, started announcing Spain’s points in Melodifestivalen 2022 by saying “let’s do this!”. It was all an educated guess that was pure speculation, but turned out to be true. I know all of this because that person was me. I lied. I started the rumour. And I was right.
@@avr7120 It’s Reddit. I made a post in the sub which was immediately flagged as “rumours/no reliable source”, it got picked up by other users, and then it turned out to be true. I made a lucky guess.
@@avr7120 Go back and watch Eva Mora giving out Spain’s points in Melfest 2022. That’s such a specific detail. It’s when I first thought it would happen, and I was proven right.
lol Greece not giving Cyprus their 12 points at the final will forever be my highlight of the 2023 final! As Andrew is Australian and I was watching in Australia our commentators were congratulating Andrew for his 12 before they got a chance to see the results and they were so shocked when they saw the 4 points! Their reaction was hilarious and my jaw honestly dropped too 🤣😅🥲
The Moldovan audition contestants stuck in snowstorm is true, but it wasn't about Lola, but about Donia. She was in Romania the day before the auditions (that's what I heard) and had to come back to Moldova for the auditions, the only problem there was an unexpected snowstorm that shocked the authorities, traffic was really bad. She originally wasn't supposed to sing last, but she did that because she was late. It was funny seeing all the comments about Lola and her running to TRM's headquarters.
50:23 Don't forget the best part: during SF1 and the final, people caught on the news about this, and decided to yell "game over, bitch!" for Luke à la Citi Zeni. I was there for SF1 and saw later clips during the final, and I also participated in yelling this. It was apparently later revealed in his discord server(?) that those were the original lyrics.
gabe, i live for these videos, you have 1mil subscribers in my heart. so nostalgic looking back to all the highs and lows of 2023, can't wait for even more eurodrama this year hahaha
You can decline to host for financial reasons though, it has happened multiple times in the competition's history (most, if not all, of those times the BBC has taken over)
@@char1211 Ofc, but it has been shown to be a bad look for some countries. Think about if Finland, a country bigger than most other hosts, had to decline hosting of Eurovision due to resources.
Absolutely deserved judgement of the German tiktok voting and it's (undeserved) winner, followed by LotL praise, followed by disdain for JKR - love this video already and I'm barely ten minutes in!
It was later revealed that Blanco was supposed to thrash the roses on stage as stage performance, but because there were technical problems he couldn't perform properly and instead went more ham than usual since he was there, it came off as rude even if he didn't want to, that's why he was booed but then him being young, he wasn't great at explaining on the spot what happened and just said "i just did it because", so it came off as even more bratty, even though Amadeus tried to invite him to the microphone to explain himself why he was destroying the roses, he basically should have said "this was all staged, simply my earpiece did not work so i stopped singing" It's a bit farfetched saying he acted like a spoiled brat
About the Let 3 flasher i believe they meant when in Dora performance they took off the dresses and you could see they had roses sticking out of their butts
WOW this was intense. Thank you for doing this, great job. I do however have one small complaint. I like watching with subtitles because I'm hearing impaired and English isn't my first language. The subtitles covered your "headlines" - very annoying. Please, in the future, put them anywhere else on the screen.
I had no idea most of these things happened last year at Eurovision, I was impressed by how many things I missed, also your reaction at the "Slendermans" at Sandra Lyng's performance was hilarious, good job on this video, I can't imagine how long it must have taken you to film this.
For Sanremo, many Italian artists present a song to participate but only very few songs are selected. In 2024 they received more than 400 songs, but could only select 30 for the competition.
In regard of countries favouring each other with top points. I remember back in the 90's and early 2000, Scandinavia was pretty infamous for favouring their sister countries. Denmark, Norway, and Sweden basically all gave each other their top points for quite some years. It was pretty hilarious. And when they stopped, the betrayal was real 😂
Instead of Greece choosing Melissa and her song “Liar”, Cyprus has now like bought her song and given it to Silia who will sing a revamped song of “Liar” But gosh I’m here for that because “Liar” is an absolute banger!
Ahahhah, nice one I didn't listen the song when Eurovision was going on, but because I'm Ukrainian, I heard the outrage over the lyrics (not just only about russian member). And after author "very cleary anti-russian meaning" i dicided to listen it :D And oh my god, I would never have thought that the "crown" is the metaphor of sovereignty of the country. I really thought that the "sister with the crown" is one abusive sister (Russia) and all her sisters are her slaves, who praises her and expressing ONLY one line of protest ("we're not your dolls"). At the end of the video clip, there is literally only one sister who has the crown which makes everything even more confusing (and not the one that appears on the Ukrainian chorus) Even if there were no bad intentions, for me "crown" not a clear metaphor for sovereignty, because Ukraine was under the occupation of the Russian Empire where tsars and tsaritesses ruled with crowns lol
I think the "grand final division" wasn't about Sweden being 9th, but every half having 5 songs from each semi final and 3 pre-qualified songs which is pretty unlikely. And "4 points to Cyprus"... Basically the Greek jury prevented Cyprus to finish in the top 10. Had they given them 10 points instead, Cyprus would've passed Czechia. And didn't the Barcelona crowd chant Cherine and Gala when Gustaph was due to perform?
I think the same about the grand final devision. If the Greek jury had given at least 10 points to Cyprus and rank 10th instead of 12th, what would have changed? It would still be far behind winning considering how few points it had in total.
the stage invaders on melfest go on stages pretty much everywhere here lol during a dance competition show called lets dance they ran on stage and got knocked out by a camera so i mean instant karma
So for some crazy awful reason I only discovered you this year. Now that I'm deep in Eurovision withdrawal I'm grateful for ESC RUclipsrs still making videos. So when I watched your last one and you said your "Iceberg" video will be out soon, I had to go search and find out what you were referring to! LOL! Looking forward to this (seems like a special special gift this year since last year's didn't come until almost time for the 2024 contest!) 🙂
oh my god i wasn't expecting to hear abt manga here LMAO i didn't know non-turkish esc fans were aware of this! i hope our hatred for the band serves as a reminder to everyone that we are not our government and most of us are firmly against them!! also you (unfortunately?) slayed that pronunciation at 42:37
It would have been fun to include the Danish national final which was scandalous. In the recap showing all the performances of the evening, they wrote the wrong voting code for Eyjaa, so instead they wrote the voting code for the previous contestant, meaning Eyjaa didn’t get many votes, and therefore didn’t qualify for the superfinal as expected… The televote from all 5 Danish regions (including Greenland and Faroe Islands) all voted the same three acts…
"Every country wants to win"... not always tho. Some countries don't want to pay the costs of hosting (*coughs*Germany sometimes*coughs*) so they send ok-tier songs but not great ones
listen we wholeheartedly stan rina sawayama in this house BUT i dont think it would be fair to the rest of the countries and their acts because i consider her an international popstar already :D a guest performance from her would be sick though
49:20 loved the video mate (still can't believe there's a part 2 to this lol), but your description of milton keynes is quite frankly shocking lol, it is one of the greatest CITIES (thanks liz) to ever exist and is definitely not a place where nothing happens (alan turing literally saved the world in milton keynes lol). definitely NOT biased from myself whatsoever...

You said the 4 points to Cyprus was uncessery drama but you don’t understand that this our way to show support to each other. We are like brothers so yeah it was important to us and all Greeks got mad about it
Giving some points to a country in a song contest doesn't mean supporting the country, it means supporting the song they send, the backlash was really unnecessary, 2 countries' friendship shouldn't be judged by a silly song contest.

Their reaction was hilarious and my jaw honestly dropped too 🤣😅🥲
i think this video should be required viewing for first time eurovision viewers from here on out
17:29 We have plenty more things to be deranged from in 2024...
BOY OH BOY HOW YOU WERE RIGHT XDDD
I came for this comment
The Moldovan audition contestants stuck in snowstorm is true, but it wasn't about Lola, but about Donia. She was in Romania the day before the auditions (that's what I heard) and had to come back to Moldova for the auditions, the only problem there was an unexpected snowstorm that shocked the authorities, traffic was really bad. She originally wasn't supposed to sing last, but she did that because she was late. It was funny seeing all the comments about Lola and her running to TRM's headquarters.
Man, we'll have to do another entire iceberg after the mess witch esc 2024

Don't forget the best part: during SF1 and the final, people caught on the news about this, and decided to yell "game over, bitch!" for Luke à la Citi Zeni. I was there for SF1 and saw later clips during the final, and I also participated in yelling this.
It was apparently later revealed in his discord server(?) that those were the original lyrics.
u/ruggedratt here, i’m still not sure if i’m proud or disappointed i was able to make it onto the iceberg 😍
i love how everyone else has like a really pic and then there is bojan at like a train station or something with his suitcase
My goal for next year is to get on next years iceberg
I'm considering this a promise don't let me down!!!
I love u queen 🥹
gabe, i live for these videos, you have 1mil subscribers in my heart. so nostalgic looking back to all the highs and lows of 2023, can't wait for even more eurodrama this year hahaha
Thank you!! 🥰
Well.. u got what u asked for 😀✨
41:40 Genuinely fell over and started convulsing on the floor 😅
I was sat here nodding along to like 90% of these because they're so clear in my memory. I really need to caress some blades of ground foliage.😔
There are countries who do not want to win Eurovision due to financial reasons. Hosting Eurovision is not cheap.
I had forgotten about Rina Sawayama nearly participating in ESC 2023 and now I’m sad again.
Absolutely deserved judgement of the German tiktok voting and it's (undeserved) winner, followed by LotL praise, followed by disdain for JKR - love this video already and I'm barely ten minutes in!
I can not believe how deep the iceberg goes on Belgium's national final. I hope that when it returnes it continues giving the way 2023's did
It was later revealed that Blanco was supposed to thrash the roses on stage as stage performance, but because there were technical problems he couldn't perform properly and instead went more ham than usual since he was there, it came off as rude even if he didn't want to, that's why he was booed but then him being young, he wasn't great at explaining on the spot what happened and just said "i just did it because", so it came off as even more bratty, even though Amadeus tried to invite him to the microphone to explain himself why he was destroying the roses, he basically should have said "this was all staged, simply my earpiece did not work so i stopped singing"
It's a bit farfetched saying he acted like a spoiled brat
Such a fun video! Really enjoyed it 😊
Thank you 🥳
I really hope there's a 2024 iceberg, this year was just a goddamn nightmare.
urgh that blanco video is such dark sided cringe.
Rina was teasing us too during that time on her socials 😭😭😭😭
For Sanremo, many Italian artists present a song to participate but only very few songs are selected. In 2024 they received more than 400 songs, but could only select 30 for the competition.
In regard of countries favouring each other with top points. I remember back in the 90's and early 2000, Scandinavia was pretty infamous for favouring their sister countries. Denmark, Norway, and Sweden basically all gave each other their top points for quite some years. It was pretty hilarious. And when they stopped, the betrayal was real 😂
Instead of Greece choosing Melissa and her song “Liar”, Cyprus has now like bought her song and given it to Silia who will sing a revamped song of “Liar”
But gosh I’m here for that because “Liar” is an absolute banger!
thank you for victor crone on the toilet
24:12 don't hide it, it wasn't "a small group of eurofans", it was THE WHOLE UKRAINIAN EUROFANDOM.
Ahahhah, nice one
I didn't listen the song when Eurovision was going on, but because I'm Ukrainian, I heard the outrage over the lyrics (not just only about russian member). And after author "very cleary anti-russian meaning" i dicided to listen it :D
And oh my god, I would never have thought that the "crown" is the metaphor of sovereignty of the country. I really thought that the "sister with the crown" is one abusive sister (Russia) and all her sisters are her slaves, who praises her and expressing ONLY one line of protest ("we're not your dolls"). At the end of the video clip, there is literally only one sister who has the crown which makes everything even more confusing (and not the one that appears on the Ukrainian chorus)
Even if there were no bad intentions, for me "crown" not a clear metaphor for sovereignty, because Ukraine was under the occupation of the Russian Empire where tsars and tsaritesses ruled with crowns lol
justice for gabe and jay’s lost braincells during the process of trying to get this video out.
I'm 4 months too late but bulgaria deleted twitter was probably about deleted tweet saying "Bulgaria doesn't participate in the contest anymore"
Those children didn't find Käärijä's bolero. Children's dad did. And Käärijä didn't bye saunarekka.
Bejba 🗣️
11:00 kinda reminds me of Megara this year
Little easter egg: Mel Geidroyc has Polish ancestry (shocker with that name) adding a layer of lols to her bit part in Liverpool
Btw from what I heard the host of Czech Republic national selection 2023 did it for free. Oh the sweet summer child…
the stage invaders on melfest go on stages pretty much everywhere here lol
during a dance competition show called lets dance they ran on stage and got knocked out by a camera so i mean instant karma
NO BC I WAS LITERALLY JUST LIKE RINA WOULD SLAY AT EUROVISION AND I DIDNT INOW ABT THIS 😭
call me petty, but I still cannot go over Poland national selection and Jann getting robbed, but atleast he got recognition he deserves in the end❤
I don’t know where I am, I recognized like Half of every tier😂
So for some crazy awful reason I only discovered you this year. Now that I'm deep in Eurovision withdrawal I'm grateful for ESC RUclipsrs still making videos. So when I watched your last one and you said your "Iceberg" video will be out soon, I had to go search and find out what you were referring to! LOL! Looking forward to this (seems like a special special gift this year since last year's didn't come until almost time for the 2024 contest!) 🙂
41:42 always surprises me
oh my god i wasn't expecting to hear abt manga here LMAO i didn't know non-turkish esc fans were aware of this! i hope our hatred for the band serves as a reminder to everyone that we are not our government and most of us are firmly against them!! also you (unfortunately?) slayed that pronunciation at 42:37
23:56 "for some reason"... That reason is called "US citizenship". Probably.
Wow, it’s finally out. Peace is restored
It would have been fun to include the Danish national final which was scandalous.
In the recap showing all the performances of the evening, they wrote the wrong voting code for Eyjaa, so instead they wrote the voting code for the previous contestant, meaning Eyjaa didn’t get many votes, and therefore didn’t qualify for the superfinal as expected…
The televote from all 5 Danish regions (including Greenland and Faroe Islands) all voted the same three acts…
"Every country wants to win"... not always tho. Some countries don't want to pay the costs of hosting (*coughs*Germany sometimes*coughs*) so they send ok-tier songs but not great ones
listen we wholeheartedly stan rina sawayama in this house BUT i dont think it would be fair to the rest of the countries and their acts because i consider her an international popstar already :D
a guest performance from her would be sick though
SLAYED
49:20 loved the video mate (still can't believe there's a part 2 to this lol), but your description of milton keynes is quite frankly shocking lol, it is one of the greatest CITIES (thanks liz) to ever exist and is definitely not a place where nothing happens (alan turing literally saved the world in milton keynes lol). definitely NOT biased from myself whatsoever...
LOOOL. I think Boyan's face expression said it all. MK is... words fail me 🤣 PS: I come in peace
@@trildi i also come in peace my friend :), and i am biased admittedly but i simply refuse to accept mk's definition as a place where "nothing happens", because many many of your online orders from amazon, john lewis etc have come from the warehouse in mk, plus alan turing big braining germany and saving the world as i mentioned.
dunno why i'm ranting about mk when this video's got an hours worth of 2023 eurovision madness to rant about but still lol
Great video. I just discovered you and I am already obsessed. I subscribe inmediately
Well explained! Can't believe how many entries I still remember haha
No. Iceland gave 12 points to Australia.
there is literally a correction on screen in the video
@@escgabe I didn't see. I was busy with the laundry. Apologies.
Kosovo already participates through Albania anyway
FINALLY
You said the 4 points to Cyprus was uncessery drama but you don’t understand that this our way to show support to each other. We are like brothers so yeah it was important to us and all Greeks got mad about it
Giving some points to a country in a song contest doesn't mean supporting the country, it means supporting the song they send, the backlash was really unnecessary, 2 countries' friendship shouldn't be judged by a silly song contest.
Finally an Iceberg were basically experienced everything
Oh, he's a Rina stan? Subscribed.

Thank you, this was great 🤩
Yay ! Gabe is back
Sweden performed 9th💀
Yes I misspoke. The same point still applies!!
@@escgabe you made a tonne of them throughout the video..... but doesn't Graham Norton make a toast for the 9th song. This one should have been easy for an English person to remember.
@@han-oq6bo That isn't on the iceberg and I don't decide what goes on it. Secondly, this video is almost an hour long so obviously there are going to be small mistakes because I'm human like anyone else. Hope this helps!
