I think Will Ferrells' character, as Mattell CEO, was a former Ken that escaped "Barbieland" after becoming self aware, and never went back. His pink shirt, and tie, and pink CEO chair are clues. I believe some of the Kens are tired of living in all the Barbies shadows, and may try to take over. I believe the Michael Cera's doll, Alan, the only one not a "Ken" is going to be more important than is being shown, because during the choreographed dance scene all the Kens and Barbies are doing, he is off to the side, doing his own thing and dancing to his own beat 😂
I like that they touched on how, basically, it's not anti man, it's anti misogyny because not all men believe in misogynistic patriarchal ideals. It seems sort of against any extreme way of thinking.
More than that, it's a commentary on how a patriarchy harms women and men. [SPOILERS] Notice how Ken in the movie is drawn to patriarchy not because of some bigoted idea, but because he wanted agency in his life, and he also happened to like horses. In the end, he vocalized his issues to Barbie, and Barbie apologized for ignoring him, and told him to grow and become his own person, not just an accessory to Barbie. Which is just such a positive message for us men.
"An actual class of scum" as opposed to "a perceived class of scum" had me gigglesnorting and cheering at the same time. I'm glad there are people who are aware of the shell game being played.
It was great! I went with a handful of male and female friends and we all had a great time. Looking forward to a Ken spin-off that explores masculinity.
I think the thing with ken is in the barbie world the barbies tend to do all the jobs...so he mght misunderstand the real world as a bizaro version of the barbie world and that the 'kens' or men are doing what the barbies usually do. though hedoes have 40 carreers to barbie's like...200 maybe?
Do you guys remember that old Disney movie with that black woman doll that came to life? I can’t fucking remember the name I found it! It’s called “life size “ with Lindsay Lohan and Tyra Banks
On one hand "but I'm a man" suggests misogynistic stereotyping. On the other, Ken's questions about needing a clicky pen or something sharp seem like a dig at the Barbie ethos of doing absolutely anything AS LONG AS you have the right accessories. Barbies were (and are) toys (originally) meant for young girls and really couldn't be much deeper than accessorize your way to better living, but people of both good and ill intent have run much farther with it.
Ok. It's a CrossMix of The Truman Show & The Brady Bunch. Barbie is going thru an existential crisis as the real world changes. Also she's not the 1st Barbie, plot twist "Messy Barbie". The reason she floats is because the toy houses has no stairs just like the real toys when girls played. The 4girls dissing Barbie are the Bratz Dolls, the Old Woman is the Daughter of the Original Barbie CREATOR who she named her after Barbara(Baby)=Barbie😉 The Ken's are all rivals and can't physically violent fight (stars) vyingly compete to be Barbie's No#1 BF. This Movie has the right notes to be a fun film to watch and if you have GF Yeah you better tag along. 😂
The old woman is NOT the daughter of the creator, lol. She is RUTH Handler, the creator of Barbie herself... she said it in the movie that she created Barbie and she named Barbie after her daughter.
Not sure it was marketed as a kids movie. Maybe parents thought it was. Always better to do some research before bringing kids to movies, concerts, and watching TV. Some kids are more mature than others and most kids won’t even get the adult themes.
I've noticed in reading comments that those who want to be offended by any misogyny are properly offended. The rest of us aren't. The misogyny and misandry seem about equal to me. Both are properly targets of disarming jokes.
Just an observation based on the trailer, but the real Barbie was very slender, something this girl is not. Of course, it's politically incorrect these days to be slimmer than her, otherwise all the fat women are "so concerned" about anorexia.
@@amycope7970 Ikr? This dude is acting like she's huge. Also it seems like they have never looked at any actual Barbie dolls before (I collect them and I'm looking at shelves of them right next to me), Margot Robbie is the perfect Barbie. Some people are so bored they *need* to make up stuff to get mad about.
Never thought I would be excited for a movie about Barbie, but here we are 😂
You and me both 😂

@@writershard5065 I think his love for horses stems from the fact that most historical men in power are depicted riding horses 😂
The boys hit the nail on the head not gonna lie ;) this film is going to be mad! So excited
The four girls in the school scene are meant to be Bratz
I’m so happy you’re reacting to all the Barbie trailers!! Excited to hear all your thoughts when the movie comes out 😊
0:34 Jai always looking at Sam like you moving funny too much😂😂
at the end was a barbie girl remix with nicki minaj and ice spice.

I became interested in this film as soon as Greta gertwig signed on to direct and write

Pretty sure this film is going to have the Lego movie effect.
"Do you guys ever think about dying?" moment is what we used to call a 'turd in the punchbowl.'

I remember enjoying it when I was younger.
I just saw it. Was hilarious 10/10

@@CitySlickerBallKickeryou both are wrong, Ruth Handler passed away 4/27/02. That woman is Ann Roth, a well known costume designer.
@@DannyClevland In the movie she is playing Ruth Handler tho.
The old woman on the bench is Ann Roth, costume designer. The other old woman is Rhea Perlman; her character is Ruth Handler, Barbie creator.
Where the Spiderverse bruv!!!! 😂 we need that!
Nicki and Ice spice barbie girl remix
Did you guys notice that ken wears a white jumper with a K on it when dancing with the other dolls. 3 Kens in white overalls =KKK
5 years later, hahaha
He’s wanted to put Barbie back in her package
boot up that spiderverse reaction/review please - transformers too hopefully?
I'm still waiting for the creator trailer reaction,🤷
From the afterlife 😮. The original creator of Barbie has been among the dearly departed since 2003 😮
I still dont get why this was targeted as kid friendly when this was movie for adults
It's an important message to kids I suppose
The kids won’t understand the adults part of the movie. There was always adult themes in children’s movies, we just didn’t realise it.
It's rated PG-13 in the US... not really "kid-friendly."
Not sure it was marketed as a kids movie. Maybe parents thought it was. Always better to do some research before bringing kids to movies, concerts, and watching TV. Some kids are more mature than others and most kids won’t even get the adult themes.
It's rated PG-13. It's not for kids on their own. My 9-year-old granddaughter thought it was boring. Her mother and I loved it.
guys where is mortal kombat 1 reaction ?
The plot seems to be the same as elf
And kinda like the Lego Movie
@@ShakaHapa Yeah, President Business, much?
and toy story
self aware fish out of water
I just hope it's fun and not too in your face with the misogyny stuff

seems like nothing original. toys become self aware in a fish out of water scenario. been done a lot
Sometimes, simple stories are the best, it's how they execute it that will matter. Hopefully the ride is fun
