A great track, it captured elements of the club sound that was happening in the UK at the time. So different for chart music but not that different if you were going clubbing. He took the underground beats overground.

Fun fact,.. I saw seal in a YSL store in New York . It was a small shop and I deliberately wanted to go through the path her was standing, but It was so narrow I had to say Pardon me,.. and he said something like no problem or sure,.. so that was my conversation with seal and I was happy to have had a” conversation” and left. I guess I was kinda weird when I was younger. But for the longest time I was so happy to have had this small interaction with him.

I had this cassette and played it over and over. His voice was the kind that I called "peppermint patty", like Sade. Its soothing! He broke out big with this song then "Kiss from a Rose". Great song, thanks Empress!

This song was at his solo debut, the self-titled album and was his first international hit in 1991. This song sound very good and unique was it's came out in single at this time. This was his first apparence in the charts worldwide, including in US or Australia. ''Crazy'' and ''Kiss from the Rose'' was his biggest success singles worldwide and his two signature songs of his career. This aong was timeless thirty years later and very good.

  • @petersavieri

What an iconic song! And yes it sounded unbelievably fresh at the time. It’s CRAZY this was released in 1990!! The only music close to sounding anything like this was Massive Attack, who started in the late 80s, but even their sound didn’t really hit its vibe till the early 90s. This song reminds me of trip hop, of Massive attack and Tricky, but it REALLY launched elements of a sound that would only become a widespread thing in the late 90s when William Orbit produced Madonna’s Ray Of Light. The swirling, pulsing synth is a real forerunner of that futuristic psychedelia, and tho Crazy was produced by Trevor Horn, there was an incredible remix by William Orbit, so it could be said that this song is the genesis of something very special… and relevant to your Madonna journey for which we lovingly await the continuance… 😉
Ironically, or coincidentally, the last 2 reactions I’ve watched of yours are Alanis Right Through You and this, and Alanis did a great cover of Crazy for the Devil Wears Prada soundtrack. Connections connections…
    PS: Seal was/is a babe ✨🦭✨

Seal have but he have a lupus who cause his scars and his permanent hair lost. He decided to cut the hair in 1994 during the making of the second album and the hair never grow up again. ''Crazy'' was his first entry in the Billboard Hot 100, peaked at the top 10 in spring 1991 and the video received a lot of airplay also. This is the reason the song who give his debut a commercial success in US like worldwide. After his first single ''Crazy'', he released two others singles of the album in US, ''Killer'', a techno-rock song who it's was massive hit in the clubs and dance radios in 1991-1992 but a limited success in US charts (debuting at n.100 in 1992 and dropped out the next week) and the video was also well received in MTV. ''The Beginning'' (very House oriented) was the third and last single in US and didn't go too far like the two first singles.

  • @derikcowan

This song was different than anything out there at the time. In my mind it gets lumped with Deelite's Groove is in the Heart and Soho's Hippy Chick for that reason, even though the three don't have much in common beyond sounding different and having a sort of message. PM Dawn kind of built off this sound, so it tried to be a breakthrough thing, but didn't quite take beyond the stand out songs.

This song was definitely different in terms of radio airplay at the time. And what was really encouraging to me was that he got crossover airplay on both Pop and Alternative stations. (I was always hoping that Alt radio would play more black artists, but Seal was a nice success story.)

I don’t think so, she also did a song for the MM sequel… Seal’s original is still the best though.
It’s very rare for originals to be bettered, but I have to say Madonna’s Grove is in the Heart is probably just as good as the original.
