Milwaukee nail gun Makita jumper “im a player bro”. God I love him. Always a smart comeback
He's quite the legend aye
thats the kiwi way...always a smart comeback if possible. Some are better than others
Another exciting video Scott! Really liked seeing Jess on site with you!
Jess would make a great apprentice, feature some glamour to the excellent hard work!
Hi Scott, I use almost all pallet wood for my projects; I also get long pallets and many old decking boards. Wood of any size is practically none existent here in the UK and the amount of “friends” that have been coming over to see if I have any wood that they could use has multiplied. Some of them I have not seen for many months suddenly need wood and are popping over. Wood that was useless according to them is suddenly okay and the old nail holes don’t matter anymore, I have more fair weather friends now and even my son has been round and I haven’t seen him since Christmas, my birthday in February he forgot but as soon as he needs some wood he remembers where I live (a long way, all of ten miles) and I have had three visits form him in the last week.
Do not make home brew you may have to surround your oroperty with electrofied rasorwire.
Got to admit watching SBC before tackling a renovation is very motivating
scott greetings from los angeles california, you are a legend thanks for the videos.
It is alway refreshing to watch a SBC episode =) Been here since who knows how long. Episode 12 I guess? Never NOT watched an episode (if it showed up in my feed that is)! Cheers! And Thank you guys!
The stoccato silence in the editing of this is satisfying as hell
@Scott Brown Carpentry. Yes that lift operator was very impressive in getting your materials placed with no damage or injuries. Great teamwork.
I really appreciate the efforts you make in making and editing these exciting episodes. I find them relaxing and inspiring.
Hope you, Jess, Pareau, Rich, and your families stay safe and well.
Happy Easter.
Great content as always! Who else around the globe is seeing drasticly increased prices for timber and other building materials?
In Sweden we will possibly be seeing increases in prices up towards 30%
In the US 92 5/8 inch framing 2x4s have literally more than doubled in price from 3.50 ish per board to just under 8 bucks. A single 4x8 sheet of 1/2" wafer board is currently 40 bucks
Prices have skyrocketed over the past 6 months
@@bradasskg11 That's nuts.. How are OSB and plywood prices? Those are way worse than wood for us right now, we are seeing something like 100-110% increase om OSB, IF you can find them.
@@johanolsson2207 23/32 osb subfloor is up to 56 bucks and just regular 3/4 oak or maple plywood from lowes or home depot is around 65-70 bucks, up from around 50 just 3 or 4 months ago
I am from Europe, Bulgaria and the prices of lumber are up just a litle bit and it depends where you buy it. But the prices of plywood and the other one( i dont know what its called) for concrete moulding are are just insane.
In Canada, I’ve seen lumber be priced 3x what it used to be. Makes doing my own projects harder, since I don’t want to pay that kind of premium.
Notification of a new Scott Brown's video , instaclick , instalike and then play the video 🖤
Y’all make me want to move to NZ, buy a house, and hire you. You do such quality work and have a great attitude. For now, I’ll sit in my apartment and watch every exciting episode as it comes out :-)
In auckland good luck
@Liam W Easy, coming from Vancouver haha
Long time viewer first time commenter. Have to say this would have to be one of the best so far. Getting slicker with production, camera angels, lighting and editing. Really enjoyed the Reno on the 100 year old house.
Jess is rocking that jacket!
It’s getting cold and wet! It is just starting to warm up in the uk, and it’s been nice catching a little piece of your summer during our winter.
But now it’s our turn for some nice weather. Hopefully!!!
Very short summer!!
Lumber trucks here in the United States
Have a little 3 wheel off road forklift that hooks onto the back of the truck called a moffett for unloading materials it makes it a lot easier for the driver in tight spaces like that
We have those in NZ as well but Hiabs are the standard for delivery trucks here
I feel like this episode was really well assembled. Nice work.
Scott Brown you are simply the best. Love watching, so look forward to the next episode..... living here in the US (Louisiana) we have been recovering from two major hurricanes, ice storm and of course Covid. So watching you is therapy that heals the brain....👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻....
Hey mate, I really like your channel and I have no relation to building or tools at all, keep up the good work, cheers!
that sound of the delivery truck backing up the driveway! hahaha always hearing that sound on the sites i work on
Love watching you work. You're so meticulous in everything you do. Even your set up and clean up are great. Well done, Scott Brown and crew!
7:27 Yep, and same around the nose piece too, where firing pin is. Every so often open that up and take mag off and clean everything nice and shiny and lube (if called for) everything and it’s good to go for another few years👍🏻
Not a hard thing to do, just takes some time to clear out all the gunk and “plastic” pieces if shoot plastic collated fasteners (which we do as well).
Nice way to cover the kitchen and like this new house. Gonna be looking spiffy when thru😁
Cheers✌🏻
This the sort of work I wanna get into , I'm doing commercial atm but hoping to get into more residential
Hey Scott, lumber issues are global. Here in Canada compared to 14 months ago, stick framing is 4x what it was 14 months ago & sheet materials are 5x the cost. Interestingly, gypsum board is roughly the same price... Last year at the height of round 1 of the pandemic, all we could get was the reject lumber, twisted, split & bent. We had buyers coming from other towns more than 100km away to grab what the merchant received as soon as it arrived. In some instances they were following the lumber trucks along the highway to the yard & the packs were being loaded from the delivery truck direct to the contractor's truck. It is insane here, so difficult to make a profitable quote with materials included. I have taken to quoting for time only with materials at cost separate...
Keep up the "Chippies porn" videos!
New Zealand....my ceiling is11mm out, I want to give you 5 grand to rectify the problem.
In the UK, shall we go to the pub😂👍
Okay now this is just ridonkulous--three episodes of SBC nearly back-to-back? Outrageously awesome.
Hello Scott Brown Carpentry from Sydney, Australia.
* That is truly a simple and easy way to laser level an old ceiling.
* Obviously you prefer LvL to UB steel (nails v drill and bolts).
Building Materials NZ availabilty
* Is that a local short supply or national importation?
Eyes, ears and dust: on site, a must!
Happy easter- and thank-you for doing Gods work.
🍞🍷
That Milwaukee nail gun is bad ass I could hear it from all the way over here when you were outside
There is not a timber shortage in NZ. Come down to the ports at Nelson or Picton they are covered in THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of logs. ALL being shipped over seas. There is so much its crazy.... but like most things in NZ (meat, Dairy, fruit...), it get shipped straight out leaving none for us.
"It's getting colder", lol. It's getting warmer here in New Hampshire but we are getting some snow today.
When are we going to get the “Ive moved out of the apartment, bought a house and doing a 60 episode series on doing it up”?
And getting married to Jess
Just after the "I won the lottery!" video
Yeah, with the "I'm moving out of Auckland" episode
There must be somewhere he could find cheaper than city prices to set a base up, could buy land with someone and go 50/50.
I'm waiting for the Scott Brown OF account to drop
I'll say it again, Scott buy an old house and fix it, make an extra large garage/shop for your all your stuff. make it so apart of it can be a home operation for Jess to make and sell her baked/cooked goods. Buy and flip houses, I think we would all love to see this!
Scott, just want to shout out to your B-roll man. You really work hard at getting all those extra shots that look so natural but need that next-level investment to do. (like watching the van drive by your storage unit!) Kudos
Love your channel and cotent Scott. Good purchase on the marquee / tent from Trade Tested. We're loving ours. It's really durable and was cheap as chips pricewise.
Love watching your channel here in Beautiful,Pure Michigan USA... Lot of my work is very similar to yours ( except the dumb-ass non-metic measurements) Cheers!
Good to see the best character Jess BC back in the episodes. Looks like a... Gorman? jacket too...
Materials a nightmare all over the world its gone nuts here in wales the demand for materials is greater than the supply can the supply chain keep up ? Makes me worry so much work on and we could be on stop .Enjoyed the video very good and that lorry driver was awesome
Justin brickright 🧱👍🏴
We've get a big timber shortage atm in Aus too! Local timber yard was all out of the standard 90x35 treated framing pine for nearly 2 weeks. Bunnings has had better luck keeping stock of most things atleast.
Hey mate, a hikoki rep told me to lube the gun magazine up with graphite powder. Same goes for the mitre saw slide rails.
Enviously watching you put up that shade while today in Wellington we have 110kph NW gales. Envious because they simply don't work in Welly.
A difficult job made to look easy. Great....thanks.
When you said you were using a LVL beam I thought you wound have huge delays. We just received emails from our suppliers last week indicating lead times and it's not good! Lucky the client knows people in the right places!
Love the videos, but non chippy related question: what rain jacket was Jess wearing? My Mrs would love it so want to see if I can surprise her 🥰
I think it is a Gorman. My wife loves their jackets. www.gormanshop.com.au/new-arrivals/iris-veins-raincoat.html Have a look at the webpage for different styles
@@Wairoakid awesome thanks, I thought it might have been Gorman, just got her something now, cheers 😀
Gorman. But wait for the sales, way better prices 😁👍
@@dressjess Easter long weekend sales just started today in Aus, so got a good deal 😁
Timber shortage in the US too. We resorted to using palm tree wood in south Florida.:)
There is a global wood shortage and yet "we" keep cutting down the trees that produce the oxygen that we breath. And landfill the timber that should be recycled. Same here in Australia. "We" are so dumb.
@@rossmckenzie9446 I'm just kidding about the palm wood. Although I do agree with you. :)
We have the same timber shortage here in Chile and prices went up
Where I'm at in the states lumber prices are up over 40% in the last year. CDX plywood is nearly 50 bucks a sheet.
Happy Easter.....thanks for the entertaining and informative videos :)
love the close out. Pardo... why you talking over there.....lol
love the outtake outro.... great entertainment... as a maker in Canada. keep up the great work.
Another great video, no relation for what I do at work building concrete swimming pools ..!
The timber shortage is everywhere man. I live the western United States and a single sheet of OSB is up to $50 about 70 NZD and here it’s because the lumber companies are sitting on the logs not milling them to drive the price I mean a single 2x4x16 is $25 it’s insane
An LVL above the load? I've never even considered it, but that is brilliant.
I wonder if its a thing here in the US.
I gotta go ask my builder.
Huge timber shortage is Australia too most of our pine is coming from New Zealand 😅
Excellent timing on the vid, just about to start my kitchen and I’ll prob have to do the same, 🤔 hmm may have to talk the misses into buying a laser, spend a dollar to save a dollar 🤣
Always a pleasure to watch your videos. Well done on both the carpentry and the video production!
I use cranes similar to that on the truck in aus we have regulations that you can't use them within a certain distance of overhead powerlines and such
4 meters in NZ. Truckwit was being naughty
That is a nice jacket 👍🏻
must be the favorite one
Early mornings.. Sienna enjoyed the video too SBC😎
I look forward to your videos everyday at lunch, just got my food warmed up and noticed a new video! Thank you Scott for the wonderful content, always finish lunch with a smile
Hey mate, love you guys heaps.. When you guys gonna do a grand designs project? Take it to the next level.... "Great listeners, are born teachers, great teachers, change the world".
Chances are you would be using a Makita framing nailer to go with the Makita jumper, but frustratingly Makita are very late to that party. Great video.
Hey Scott,
I've noticed you wear alot of masks during your videos and was wondering if you could touch on what's a good mask to protect your lungs from all the dust and insulation. Love the videos keep up the good work!
Quality craftsmanship.
Great video as always. It sems like it problems to get timber everywhere.
1.arpril the price whent up 20% and it will get ut 25 more in summer.
This is i Norway.
Anyway have a nice Easter
It's not just NZ. There's a wood shortage everywhere, and the price increases are awe inspiring.
In NZ some shortages are caused by a building boom. People are unable to travel so are spending their money on renovations and cars. I haven't noticed prices rising that much at the builder suppliers, although they may have in the home stores.
@@markgilchrist860 Well, here in Canada, at least in Toronto, a 2x4 that was $3 pre pandemic is now almost $9 . A sheet of plywood that was $35 is now about $75. And we're having a building boom as well, for the same reasons.
@@olafbigandglad Just looked up an invoice from 12 months ago - 100x50 (2x4) same price as today. $4.40 +GST /m. Auckland might be different but not by much.
Dude your videos are always MINT. Cheers from Texas! ✌🏼
Ooh! Nice use of MINT, bro!
Scott brown is the stuff like seeing makita is the stuff 2
This is a job coming up for me in my house. I'm thinking of just ripping out all the joists and replacing.
You may have to drive to your storage container but at least you get some sick shots
we love jess m8
Yo SCOTT! How do I get the teal stripe shirt? I don’t remember if you ever mentioned selling them
Yea the guy was pretty good with the crane arm, but can he hang a door?
Scott, What do your LVL Manufacturers say about nailing v Screwing beams together ?
Hi Scott brown, thanks for the great content, I have a question in regards to the roof load width (RLW)do you apply the RLW to every job you quote and if so could you please teach us by providing examples, thankyou so much
Timed that well, first! Hope that makita sandwich maker is working out for chef Paerau
Bro, I'm not complaining, but if you're gonna start pumping videos every day, don't you dare stop haha
Happy Easter Homie G
you guys are on the level
The ceiling panel is cane-ite - well that is what I would call it uses as sound proofing material or pin up boards in schools - if you ever run out of laminated lumber you could always make up your own composite using readily available sections ??
When cutting out the check at 8:02. Why cut the material out with the reciprocating saw?
Paerau is a banter merchant! Seems like a great lad. Can’t for the life of me figure out the spelling vs pronunciation of his name though ✌🏻
Its Maori bro.
Like all languages Maori has its own peculiarities. An 'r' is rolled with the tongue off the top of the mouth. An 'au' at the end is pronounced more like 'oh' in the English language. Ever wondered why thought isn't spelt thort?
As a general rule with Māori words, say every vowel. So to say "Maori" say Ma - oh - ri. (Correctly it's Māori with a long ā sound, Maa - oh - ri). Paerau should be something like Pa - eh - rra - ow. But it gets screwed up, because we New Zealanders clip our vowels a lot.
I've put a link below on Maori, if you want. It's 2 minutes of history, 5 minutes of pronunciation etc, then gets technical.

@@Muritaipet Thanks, that video was so interesting ☺

Just wondering if you rate the 40 v makita mitre saw Scott. I’ve got the 36 volt 10 “ which is great apart from the weight of it.
curiously, if you're reinforcing a settled single story structure, is the laser level necessary? isn't a slight slope in joists typical/desireable sometimes? also, if it's for longevity's sake, wouldn't highlighting an initail bad design an important topic, or do you need to whip a laser out every time you redrywall?
What was up with that water stains in that bead board ceiling as you head out backyard?
They new or old
Slap up some rondo. Job done
I was thinking when those LVL's rocked up, "How the hell did you get them so quick". We ordered one weeks ago and still not ready.
Different styles/angles of filming, cool 😎👍🤓👍🇬🇧
What is the brand of the blue straight edge. Third time asking.
Hey mate what do you think of the battery table saw i tried the milwaukee one out thought it was good for joinery but not great on the heavy stuff?
See alot of those hippo bags to dispose of site waste in your videos Scott. I'm from the uk and we tend to use skips instead as they tend to be alot more cost effective. Do you use them as you don't have many skip companies in NZ or are the hippo bags just cheaper out there?
Scott great video ! who makes that nice demo bar you guys are using? Thanks
I liked the countersink bit. what is it?
Love The Video Brother! Much Love From EE.UU.
Another happy landing
can you link to the new canopy please?
Is the M1 a heavy hammer? I work as a carpenter in Norway and I use a Fiskars 20oz ripclaw
happy easter weekend guys
It is a very good book for beginners as well as for those that are already into ruclips.net/user/postUgkxTNB_zFBSnTo_O1PqfVUwgi7ityw0JlKt A very good basic ebook to keep as a reference too. I like it and the way the subject matter is presented. It has humor and that helps with the reading.
Hey Scott where did you get that shelter from for your droppy? Also what brand is it? I really need 1 coming into winter now 😅
Makita have sent you some more presents 🎁 I see ...
how’s the 40v stuff working out ?? .
Huge timber shortage here in Aus as well
Hey Scott what brand of gazebo is that?
