DEFENDING OURSELVES AGAINST PIRATES... (Episode 294)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 янв 2025
- In this episode, we leave the safety of Vanuatu to sail through the Solomon Islands, towards Papua New Guinea. With some recent incidents of piracy in the area, we have to sail with precaution and defend ourselves against pirates, and be very careful if and when we stop in the Solomon Islands...
SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged Lagoon 450 catamaran, which Colin rebuilt with friends and has started sailing around the world. We found bulkhead damage on their catamaran in Panama, so have fixed her up, and are now sailing across the Pacific Ocean!!

I have a friend that went to Papua new Guinea 7 time at the same port no problems but on the 8th time was attacked , had his face smashed with a gunbutt he pull up anchor and sailed back to Australia. He said many times at night they were approached by men in canoes ,he and wife have been sailing south pacific Islands, New Guinea ,Indonesia, Solomon's, Philippines for the past 11 years
As a farmer the benefit of having a thermal scope can not be understated. It gives you such a great understanding of what is happening a night without being seen. Now obviously I use it for pest control but I can imagine it would come in very handy for scoping the horizon at night from a boat.
Pedro's attitude is just fantastic. What a fabulous crew member/friend to adventure with.
Yeah love Pedro
I love the fact Colin is so professional and takes being a Captain seriously 😊
We had dogs for the first 7 years of cruising. Absolutely the best way to keep others off your boat.
Pedro is a big plus in the cast of characters 🙂
Right?! He brings so much to the boat in skills and personality!
@@Buddy869-z9x I like his descriptions of event's on da boat...........😊
Thanks!
Gotta say, the story telling, filming and editing is first rate! Better than anything the big networks are pumping out. Cheers from Winnipeg.
Nothing like having a companion dog that never leaves your side. Mine has been with me for the past 11 years and recently been diagnosed as terminal. Just a matter of time. Breaks my heart.
HUGS - my heart is with you.......
Don't you hate it, I bet that 11 years just went in a flash. My Heart goes out to you, my current dog is now almost 3 and coming good, it's always hard yards to begin with.
11 years that's sad what breed of dog is it? My first Kelpie lived till he was 22 before he got cancer
Beautiful place. Thanks for sharing.
WOW!!!!! you are an amazing videographer Bri!!!! Thank you all!!!
The best channel on RUclips by FAR. Thanks for your content guys.
Pedro you are a classic, mate.
Brit & Colin, I may have chuckled at your misfortune with the bucket. Hoping in time you too see the funny side… what were the odds that mother nature would prank you like that? 🤭
Thanks for all the great content. You have the best sailing content on RUclips....
Hi, I am a 73 year old Dutch man. I understand that you are going to sail to Indonesia, I live partly in Bali and hope to meet you in life after years of following you, if possible. I have been following you since day one. I hope that you will visit Bali, any idea when? Please, let me know. I will not disturb you, even if I can see you from a distance, I will be happy.
❤❤❤❤ How super sad that your even faced with this, never underestimate the kiwis , We are fearless people ,I think its super important one at least defends them self to give pause that not everyone will stand for privates 🫶🏼🕯️Stay safe 🙏
Super video! For us sailing fishermen would be super if you would show the lures you typically use, leader length, type of leader - TIA
This is by far the best You Tube channel!
I like it how Jamie just casual in the kitchen calm he already has it mapped out what he will do
What an amazing Captain and Crew! You all are the best! Much love ❤
Heart pumping exhilaration. 💓
🤯 anchorage.
Thanks for sharing.
Dogs are awesome. I live in a rv and when I go use the campground showers I’m not worried about locking up, someone would have to be crazy to enter with her there. That was some close call going across the reefs 😮⛵️❤️🍻🐕🦺
I havent been watching you so much anymore. But now,i liked this episode. You are SAILING!!! Ive missed that.
Excellent precautions team. As much as you're our new Peter Blake, we don't need another Peter Blake. Sail safe and enjoy 👌👌🙏🙏❤❤
that story is so wrong, If he had the legal right to protect himself maybe the outcome would have been different. Just horrible, made me remember how disheartening i felt upon reading about him and this last day's in Brazil.
My Sunday morning go too. Thank you again. Till next week.
Another great episode Colin. Thanks mate 👍
Pedro is amazeballs!
Yes crocs in Solomons! One cruiser was taken when he dove on his anchor.
It's good to be aware of your surroundings where ever you go and definitely have a plan in place for a just incase moment..
Thank you for taking us where we would never see otherwise. ❤
I can’t get through my week without a little Parlay!!! So glad no pirates, but glad you are at the ready anyway.
Let’s not forget your secret weapon, y’all got a super Hero on board,
Jamie the Conqueror,
The master of Disaster! Chuck Norris avoids my man Jamie!! Your safe !
😂
😂❤
Love ur dogs..nothing like stray loving dogs...t care of them theyll take care of you..❤
Longer Videos Please 🙏🌺💜
Good rule of thumb, good surf takes priority over EVERY thing.
When I went through Panama there were 3 acts of piracy. One in Portabello and two near the islands in Panama City Harbor. One boat had a dog. The pirates held the dog for ransom.
Stay safe crew! I’m glad you have a plan. It’s unfortunate that you have to prepare for pirates
Well you do love surfing! I could hardly watch as you traveled over the reef. You started off frightening me as you showed how prepared you had to be in case of pirates. I pray that you will be safe as you enter pirate territory.
I'm absolutely loving this Adventure through the Pacific Islands
Great Stuff
@10:58 LOL! That's according to what Jamie says! OK, sure Jamie! :)
You must have sailed right past 2 amazing Islands, Bellona and Rennell in the rain. Fond memories meeting the locals and catching and eating coconut crab there...As you would be aware best to have the blessing from the chief or intro from your last port before exploring this part of the world, if possible. This is where you truly mean it when you say ...Stay safe!
I know this vid is in the past..just shareing my experience for others.
Great episode guys! Classic Parlay tactics.
Dayum….never realised how handy the dogs would be when it comes to pirates. So they’re not just pretty faces 🥹❤️
Out of all the awesome things happening in this video, the dog riding the storm out with the leader wins.
I think the dogs reaction to the word " pirate" wins 😂
Your stream is the h8gh point of my Sunday. Love it. Makes me want to explore again.
Oh boy, oh boy crossing the corrals 😮 . Take care ❤
Your tale today reminded me of the loss of Peter Blake all those years ago... A couple of puppies will surely be an excellent early warning system... Extra kibble on guard duty...
What a great video to watch! Glad you all made it safely to the island! Look forward to your next video 👌🏻🙌🏻
I spent 10 days diving in the Solomon Islands a few years back. The diving was fantastical. You do have to watch out for the salt water crocs though 😱
good crew. good dogs, good boat and good life
Some of The most dangerous places I've been to didn't have guns either. Conversely the safest were where everyone was armed in some way. Danger comes from people with dark intentions in their hearts. Not from what they might carry as weapons.
PS. Check out the Byrna Launcher. It's a non lethal way to defend yourself. It uses compressed air to lauch paintball size pellets that will oeave a welt or tear gas pellets that incapacitate.
Alot of volcanic islands /activity appearing and disappearing around the islands there. Great episode as always Colin and crew, and of course the goodest boys! The doggos!!
Glad to see that you plan ahead. I was curious about the pirate issue. Having to dogs on board seems really smart. I’m amazed at how well they handle it. ❤
Every episode has its own way of being great.
Epic voyage! The surf looks incredible! Love to you all!❤...
Those underwater shots were amazing. Well done!!
awesome episode.
Hi Collin. Those flying fish are delicious.🇨🇦
Great video, thanks for sharing, stay safe
Sundays wouldn’t be Sunday without a fresh fried Parlay Revival episode. I just wish they were longer. Hard to do, I think, just keep up what you’re doing…
Vote Pedro! Way to go everyone. You made it over the reef.
Pedro rocks as do you all! 🙏🏻♥️🙏🏻
One of those handheld depth sounders and the Dinghy would be good option for shallow crocodile crossings. At least for Pedros sake.
Getting robbed is one thing, I feel horrible for those that were murdered. Nice couple. The dogs will watch after you, and hopefully, our prayers will help.
You guys need a BYRNA LAUNCHER. Basically, it's a CO2 🔫 that packs a punch. They offer multiple projectile options to stun or incapacitate someone. A good ol fashioned crossbow can do lots of damage too. Be safe out there Colin & Crew!
3" schedule 120 pipe and some ingenuity makes a great blunderbus nail and bolt cannon, and is legal everywhere. So is a historic style signal cannon that can be used for anti pirate purloses.
Yikes! I remember Captain Sandy talking about the Pirates. Absolutely terrifying and I’m pretty sure none of them are Johnny Depp! Thanks for another great episode. ❤🙏🏼 Safe passages
Who needs Johnny Depp when you have Colin😊
Happy new years Parley & Co. Rock out with your coq out.
Can’t wait for next weeks episode - that location looks unreal! Especially the surf!!
Wow. This was kinda scary! Pedro was hilarious and a trooper!
Thanks for the hot tip for the No Foreign Land app!
Great show. I've learned something again. Thank you Colin!!!
Great timing on this episode Colin! I just crewed on a 50‘ Benateau from Honiara Solomon Islands onto Port Moresby Papua New Guinea on the south side of Papua New Guinea. Didn’t see any pirates luckily but also had shitty winds. Either head winds or no wins. I decided to jump ship and Papua New Guinea and explore the Port Moresby area and do some scuba diving. Winds looked horrible for the leg to Kei Islands. Im going to fly the rest of the way to Indonesia. Luckily, catching the Brisbane International open tennis tournament for the second time in two years. I fly onto Bali and hopefully exploring Komodo Island in the next few weeks. Still interested in joining you guys for a bit if you have room. Cheers and Sail on Amigo!
Always safe to be prepared.
Love it every week without fail!
Just superb. Good job team... x🤗🤗🤗
Production quality on this is 10× that of the below deck show . Well done mate , nice to see you doing what you love 🤘🏼
Awsome Collin love use all . Been watching use since day one Yeehar use are smashing it woohoo
The Solomons have quite a few spoken dialects so one can only imagine the difficulties with tribal and government coexistence and certainly foreign travelers can expect some friction given the isolated island communities. Papua New Guinea has an even more crazy number of unique spoken languages estimated at around 800+. You’ll def see things few get to experience first hand. I’m just a little jealous and look forward to your first impressions.
Brilliant show, my nerves are a bit frayed, what an awesome ream you guys are! ( and gals!)
you ever considered taking some pvc pipes and connecting them together so you have a 80ft pole u can stick out in front of the boat having the end in the water a little bit deeper than the keels it would give you a bit of warning crossing reefs
You guys always do this to me. Making us wait a week for another video!! Great job on this video!!!
That was a nail biter!!! Stay safe Sailing Parlay Revival!! xxx
AH>>>>>> nice cliff hanger!!!!
You need to take that catamaran to Belize. There’s almost always only a foot below the keel inside the reef.
the dogs are an awesome early warning system for sure
look into to some of the "less than lethal " solutions.
My recommendation is for the "Grimburg Gavle ". Weather you use Solid projectiles or the pepper projectiles.
Should market those Pedro Depth Drones. The dogs never thought about it but they will make any potential have to be pretty serious. When i had four maremma guardian dogs I always felt secure. Love the "pirate" command.
Great crew to get in and lead the way
I was on a passage one time and the captain told me don’t leave that hatch cracked and I was like I’ll be all right. I’m in the back of the boat wave came over the boat and the same exact thing happened in the middle of the night. It sucked.
Great video can't wait till your next one
If your in Port Moresby, Png. Happy to show you around.
Whew, that was close. I get nervous when my boat is in 3m of water!
I was in Tahiti and they came up while anchored in the night and took our slippers, and poles we had on the back of the boat...
Great adventure.
Good pups doing pirate practice ❤
I can't imagine being unarmed out there...
'Merica
Two many nice safe places to cruise, simply skip the know bad stops.
Here i am dreading having to clear snow with my giant snowblower as if its tough and here they are concerned of remote isolated islands and pirates. Guess my task is super easy🎉
Another great Vid, thank you Guys.
Big fan here and this is complete bulls??t! I haven't watched the whole episode yet but you all don't deserve this at all!!
