As pointed out I forgot to mention the fact that Palin also offers 1 and 2 ton corrosion resistant cargo racks. Once you unlock him you can purchase these at his base only. You can also unlock a 16 ton class 4 rack separately without access to Palin ruclips.net/video/PdrlcqL8KPA/видео.html
You forgot to mention because you are talking as fast as possible through the "best possible outcome" scenario. Accounting for no misunderstandings, no ambiguities, nothing. If it doesn't go down 100% the way you are saying in your rushed monologue, then people get lost. I am not the only person to notice this. I get that it's a "quickie" but you do the exact same thing in your normal videos. But it doesn't matter since people like myself appear to be in the minority. Not to be completely unfair, your videos are helpful, and I do appreciate your contribution, but it can be frustrating to follow you
I don't know if this may have been different in a previous version of the game, but in my case once I reached a distance of 5kly from my starting system (that being the only remaining requirement to unlock Palin and Chloe) I received an invitation from both of them. So there's no need to interrupt your journey by checking if you've unlocked them yet, you'll get an invite once you do. Also if anyone else is looking for a destination at the right distance, Mu Cephei is far enough. And being one of the largest known stars with a radius over 1000 times that of Sol, it is quite a sight to behold. I used a DBX, with an engineered FSD and guardian FSD booster, everything else downsized and D-rated, which got me a jump range of about 70ly. I plotted a route along only scoopable stars (KGBFOAM), so I didn't have to keep track of when and where to scoop fuel. This resulted in a trip of about 100 jumps (not using neutron stars because I'm a noob and neutron stars still scare me ;).
If anyone is having issues with the Sensor Fragments falling through the ground when destroying the sensors(like I was), you can scoop up the sensor canisters directly and eject them from your cargo to unclip them from the ground. Just make sure you eject them quickly because they cause corrosive damage to your modules.
This is so helpful! Wish I'd thought of it because it's really annoying when most of the fragments you need to collect fall down through the ground - easily doubles the time spent collecting them
This has been the most enjoyable unlock of them all. First travelling by neutron stars was exciting, especially with those nasty pulsars. One nearly got me. Second getting the sensor fragments at location was one of the best experiences for me. Specifically the return trip!! Thanks for this guide, that made it possible.
Not sure I agree - the Guardian Fighter unlock is pretty sweet as the Guardian Beacon is really sweet. That is the first time it was fun, the 3rd was a bit much and for me the 9th I was ready to die (for videos and my alts)
Sure, but had you done it with Neutrons you could have done it roughly 4 times faster. I can usually do 1000 ly every 10 minutes factoring in time to stop and repair. Another reason I like taking a small ship (DBX or Asp X) due to the cheap rebuy.
@@Exigeous Sure, but when taking the neutron highway which I have never done before it requires much more attention. This way I could just watch a movie on my second screen.
Well, I'm pissed, mainly because I'm a noob. Spent a ton of time picking up Thargoid Sensors, and storing them in my ship. Ignored the corrosive damage warnings. Just need 25, I'm almost there. Got my 25th, hopped in my Phantom and BAM, my canopy blows out. Well, that's a first. I start freaking out looking for a place to land and repair. Jump a system over and initiate docking with a station just as my life support runs out and I blow up. The try before that I accidently dismissed my ship, instead of transferring cargo, and watched it proceed to crash itself and explode when I recalled it... AND NOW I FIND OUT I ONLY NEED THE FRAGMENTS
I feel your pain, i did the exact same thing, though not nearly as bad. He does not explain that well in the video. Especially if when you first arrive you cannot shoot the canister because its under the surface and so assume you need to pick it up with the SRV
@@Matt-zp4oc Yep, been there, done that. I'll give myself a mini-break as I figured out the 'pick up the canister and eject it' way to get the 'buried' ones.
In ED:Oddyssey blowing up your ship will not spawn you back in the bubble it will spawn you back at the nearest station, or carrier. So be prepared to make the trip back.
The oddest anomaly with the engineers is that between the four colonia engineers you can mod any module. They're really easy to unlock too. The biggest problem (apart from needing to get to colonia) is that at the moment they can only do mods up to grade 1. When they get to grade 5 then they'll be really useful to pin more blueprints for the remote workshop.
Sure, as we'll have 4 more blueprints we can pin - IF you want to go to the trouble of unlocking them (flying all the way out there just to pin things). It is nice to see that addition for Colonia folks but I fear it will be a while before they reach Grade 5
Really should update the description with his new location. While it was entertaining to try and dock at Palin Research Centre, it would have been nice to know that he moved to Arque. My bookmark showed it, but I wasn't quite sure based on your video.
Question: I have an ASP X that I have engineered the drive on and have a Guardian FSD Booster on it. I'm getting about 59LY jumps so I like to use it for long travel. My question is, if I blew it up to save in return flight time, will my rebuy ship still have my engineered drives intact?
The neutron highway is a tempting strategy but if you Road to Riches the 5000 ly path instead, you can get enough data to unlock Marco Qwent with Sirius reputation and kill two birds with one stone. Saw that strategy in Fox's Step-by-Step Guide to Unlocking Engineers Quickly.
The location is currently on a giant crater center that is basically not climeable by an SRV. But the thargoid sensors roll down the hill so they are still obtainable. It's either just me or some general glitch. Has anyone been there lately. I was just there and gathered all 100. I hope I didn't miss anything like ship scans for data cores. I hate missing those.
Just as I came back from collecting the sensor fragments i was thinking to myself: imagine I get interdicted on this jump. I looked up to the top right corner and it said I was getting hyperdicted. It was an awesome experience. :)
Pro tip : be sure to take 30 zillion screenshots near the downed tharg. 'cause you never ever go there again and you know dat Reddit thread needs those juicy screenshots!
13.000 ly away from the bubble now and a great view of the milky way... well time to self destruct, had a blast! :D gotta get dem engineering done and make my fully engineered exploration ship ready and hopefully get the oculus rift S within a month and start the real journey out there in the black.
Caution with using Remote Workshop on pinned blueprints. This does NOT increase your rep with Palin. You must be at the Palin base to increase rep up to Grade 5 - then you are good to use the Remote Workshop for the rest of your days. Also (as mentioned) you cannot apply Experimental Effects with the Remote Workshop (however, any Engineer that supports that blueprint, at any grade, can apply the Experimental Effects - no need to run out to Palin for that)
I'm def not seeing this sensor. Theres a big mountain sticking out of the ground with a crashed type 9, 2 crashed anacondas, some canisters lying about and what looks like a crashed thargoid but its half way up the mountain witch is too steep to drive my srv up 🤷♂️
sensors spawn a bit up of the mountain, then they roll down and should be found at the foot of the mountain left of the type 9 like a few hundred meters away
Had the same problem, I can not "fly" my SRV like some. Sit a the bottom of the hill to the left of the Type 9, Log out and in, go to turret mode in the SRV and point up the hill. After a few second the sensors will come rolling down the hill, just watch them until they stop. Then go keep them.
I didn't have any luck at all getting the Sensor Fragments at HIP 17403 as of May 2019. The location is just a massive hill. The Thargoid ship is half-way up the hill and the incline is too steep to get up there in the SRV. The base of the hill just has a crashed Type-9 with nothing of value there. There's nothing else in the area to collect. Unless I did something wrong, I don't think this method works.
ERR - wrong! The items you're looking for are up UNDER the wreckage of the Type-9. You're looking for Thargoid sensors, you target and destroy them. So yeah, you definitely did something wrong :D
I assume you were using your SRV, right? You have to park ~2K away and drive in. As you get closer look at your contacts and target the items you see, bingo.
now at the end of 2020, I did it as indicated and self-destructed as soon as I passed the 5000 LY mark. No stops, no docking, just jumping and fuel scooping. And only to find myself into a station in that system, 5k LY away from my base in the bubble... :(
I'm one of the morons who went to Sag A before engineering or neutron jumping were things. I spent 4 weeks jumping around in the black. Landed on a few planets, fucked my ship up a few times and made it back to the bubble with ~45% hull left. And now it saves me ~1 hour in unlocking this fella. Hooray?
No, not at all - as you don't go to Obsidan Orbital, you go to the planetary base Darnelle's Progress - go back to that section as you're missing something.

o7 CMDR, out of my curiosity, the location of stranded vessels isn’t that easy to find, even when I already had the coordinate. How was the first person who found it be able to locate it? Is it in gallnet or something?
Well it's really easy actually - detailed surface scanner as I believe that one was discovered after that. As for the "old times" you'd fly over a planet in orbital glide at a really shallow angle so you'd cover a lot of ground. You'd be looking on your scanner for a single dot, a single pixel to tell you there was a POI below - when you saw that you'd dive down and see what it was. And most of the time it was shit, like a few tons of cargo, etc. - but every so often, well really virtually fucking never, you'd find something like this.
EDTutorials by Exigeous o7 CMDR, very glad that information like this are spread out to us. It would be almost impossible for players like me do these things without the proper guide.
so is this guy not in the maia system anymore? I've spent an hour looking in the maia system for him and can't find him anywhere. this is beyond frustrating
That's hard to say as they spawn in random systems. I usually get things like that in Parutis where I run passenger missions, you could also try Robigo doing Sirius Atmospheric missions (check my tutorial on VIP Tourist missions)
I read that they have a higher chance as a Mission reward in Systems with a Boom state. Sort the rewards on the mission board by commodities to find them quicker.
Yeah, you'll read stuff like that all the time but it's just conjecture (unless someone shows me real research that is). Either way Parutis is usually in boom and that's where I got them for my alt account.
just tried the 5k ly trip on Xbox. I was unable to do it, since the xbox cant calculate the trip past 1k ly. also constant msg about "unknow permit issue" what ever that means. To do the manual plotting and trying to do it in a reasonable time... not happening....
@@KasualBeast Yes. HOWEVER! You have to get out of the fleet carrier and make a single jump in just a ship to get the distance to "register" as being that far away with a ship jump in the server.
I guess, I just want to make a story out of it. I don't want to travel 5kly and self-destruct. At least I now know distance travelled is not lost in case of "pilot error" though, so thank you for that!
I've noticed on several Engineers that I completed some of the unlocking requirements even though I never did those requirement tasks. Maybe this was changed sometime after Odyssey came out?
Obviously you posted this before actually trying it.... I got 12 fragments on my first go. and got 6-18 on every try after that. there are 3 sensors and each drop either 0 3 or 6 fragments per sensor... I don't think I ever got a run with 0 fragments, but im willing to bet its possible. based on just trying it. seems there is a 1 in 6 chance for each senario, 0 3 6 9 12 15 or 18 fragments. your odds of having to do 25 re-logs to get all the stuff you need is the odds of getting 1 3 fragment drop and 2 0 fragment drops and then doing that 8 times in a row. all while never receiving a 6 9 12 15 or 18 drop. odds are approximately on the order of 10^-20 I know some people get bad luck but even if the entire planet was playing this game everyone would have to do this over a billion times to have even 1 person get such a result. IF you are commenting on this after getting this result. im sorry for your loss. it took me 5 tries (2 minutes each) to get 2 engineers worth of materials and about 20 minutes to write this up. I spent more time focusing attention on you then I did doing what you said was just bad game design... in my humble opinion these are too easy to get. so I decided to spend an extra 10 minutes to cap my supply at 100 just so I never have to do this again
@@christianwagner4815 if you really wanted there are a few different thargoid sights to get sensor fragments you could spend a good 20 minutes flying to them to collect each set without using the cheese
If you engineer your thrusters to G5 you won't be able to put an experimental on them unless you go to palin, nobody else can do them otherwise. Engineers can only put exp on modules with a grade that they can also engineer.
100% UNTRUE - this *used* to be true but was fixed in the 3.2 update - you absolutely can add the experimental to them at Felicity no matter what grade they are.
I actually would pin Clean Drives. Less heat and less power. I don't have to overcharge my plant as much and I get a cooler running ship. I really think people don't value Clean drives as much as they should. If you power to spare, go for it, but I perfer to leave Dirty drives for those handful of racing ships.
You obviously don't to much combat and certainly not PvP where dirty drives are all but a requirement. But sure, if you want to pin clean go right ahead, works the exact same way. It's just that for the vast majority of ships/builds dirty is definitely the way to go.
I actually like them. This game had taught me to appreciate grinding. I laugh at all my friends who complain about grinding in their games. They obviously havent played elite lmao
By definition, grinding (required repetitive, boring activities etc) is something that is not liked. Human nature being what it is most activities repeated ad nauseam will become a grind.
With the new surface scanner (100% scan) the crashed thargoid will be located on the planet, not need to use the coordinates hassle.

I don't know if you "discovered" him by now, but he has moved to the Arque system, acording to the "bookmark" I got when I recieved his invite.
@@jcorbett9620 yeah, thanks for the info. I did unlock him eventually. haha.
Thank you for the great tutorial! Exigeous, could you please tell me where to find the Modular Terminals passenger missions? Thanks!
They are super common as rewards for rescuing people off of attacked burning stations... I got all 25 in one single run that way.
Got mine from a fc, easy as
Great video as always. Remember before blueprint pinning? Buy a new ship... and OMFG I have to fly out to bloody MAIA again... arrgghghhh!!!
Yeah that sucked, luckily I unlocked palin after that
lol you know... give Jameson Memorial credits and they give you a Krait ^_^
Yeah, but they don't give you an engineered Krait ;-)
But it's only a few more clix to engineer it 😶
I have 90 fragments before traveling 5000 ly and those fragments does not seam to count. Palin ask for 25 when i have 90 already!!
Hey. Is this stil here? Cant find it :/
When traveling 5000ly i went to omega mining operation and back
just tried the 5k ly trip on Xbox. I was unable to do it, since the xbox cant calculate the trip past 1k ly. also constant msg about "unknow permit issue" what ever that means. To do the manual plotting and trying to do it in a reasonable time... not happening....
You cannot calculate more than 1k ly at a time, on PC as well. You don't do it in one go lol.
@@TheDyingScotsman I tried to manually plot the route, but it wouldnt let me do mor than 100 ly at a time. Thx for letting me know. 👍
Can you do the 5000ly before you get the invite? Or does it have to be after?
Before, you can do it any time you want.
@@Exigeous can i do this in a fleet carrier?
@@KasualBeast Yes. HOWEVER! You have to get out of the fleet carrier and make a single jump in just a ship to get the distance to "register" as being that far away with a ship jump in the server.
One of these days, I'll complete the last 3kly I need to unlock him... The worst thing is that I already have the sensor fragments xD
Well then you'd have in unlocked in about an hour if you want ;-)
I guess, I just want to make a story out of it. I don't want to travel 5kly and self-destruct. At least I now know distance travelled is not lost in case of "pilot error" though, so thank you for that!
Oh sure, I'm all for doing something fun when you can combine it with grind - but if you just need/want Palin he's less than an hour away, that's all.
I don't understand why I'm I have him unlocked and travel only 1700ly
I've noticed on several Engineers that I completed some of the unlocking requirements even though I never did those requirement tasks. Maybe this was changed sometime after Odyssey came out?
The fact that you need to log in and out 25 times in process pretty much sums up the bad design of unlocking engineers
It pretty sums up how YOU play this game
Obviously you posted this before actually trying it.... I got 12 fragments on my first go. and got 6-18 on every try after that. there are 3 sensors and each drop either 0 3 or 6 fragments per sensor...
I don't think I ever got a run with 0 fragments, but im willing to bet its possible.
based on just trying it. seems there is a 1 in 6 chance for each senario,
0 3 6 9 12 15 or 18 fragments. your odds of having to do 25 re-logs to get all the stuff you need is the odds of getting 1 3 fragment drop and 2 0 fragment drops and then doing that 8 times in a row. all while never receiving a 6 9 12 15 or 18 drop.
odds are approximately on the order of 10^-20
I know some people get bad luck but even if the entire planet was playing this game everyone would have to do this over a billion times to have even 1 person get such a result.
25 times? you mean there is only 1 fragment per site?
because i found enough for him in just 1 relog.
Palin did not become visible after getting both McQuinn and Martuuk to grade 3.
Martuuk and Quent
Chloe shows i am 1750ly out of 5000 but palin says 0 out of 5000. I hope this aint a bug and it aint gonna unlock him after this
Thyroid sensors?
Well it seems to be no longer valid, as Palin now requires 5000 LY travel, no sensors.
If you engineer your thrusters to G5 you won't be able to put an experimental on them unless you go to palin, nobody else can do them otherwise. Engineers can only put exp on modules with a grade that they can also engineer.
Really? I have been using experimentals from Felicity on modules engineered by others.
@@nikisepps what modules? And what grade?
G5 FSD Drives I get from other engineers (I only upgrade my FSD drives when I have materials.
@@nikisepps you can do that because felicity does G5 fsd, if she wasn't she wouldn't be able to slap an exp on a G5 engineered fsd
100% UNTRUE - this *used* to be true but was fixed in the 3.2 update - you absolutely can add the experimental to them at Felicity no matter what grade they are.
Dude, do you sleep? *skulks off to be*
Sleep? I've got quickies to have!!! :D
Can't even argue on that
And hey, you're then one watching my shitty content at 4:52 AM EST not me! :D
HA! True but I was only 1:52 at that time. Also thanks for the vid, you kick ass!
This is OUTDATED now, he's in the ARQUE system!!!!!!!! Not maia!!!
@@Exigeous in PvP you can get rekt if your opponent has weapons with heat transfer. Clean is fine. No need to go tryhard and minmax.
Engineers. One of the worst features of ED.
The grind is a necessary evil. There's no denying that upgrading modules is effective, whatever your build may be
Hey pal why don't you explain things a little faster? Honestly your guides are too slow for me
