      I did this with my old place, but I was also replacing rot and rim joist while I had it open. Definitely level your stuff first! Otherwise your plywood will stair step and you will have a bitch of a time when you get to the roof

    @allencolvin4320 2 года назад +7

    I would do some sort of vapor barrier, and hang your windows first so you have a proper seal, then side it

    so im suffering with my mobile home here in Houston. leaks everywhere and im so fustrated with no help. so i gotta do everything on my own , so my question is take off metal and just cut siding to the size and nail it to the wood?

    • @frugallandlord6974
      @frugallandlord6974  10 месяцев назад

      Yeah that’s what I did, a vapor barrier might also be recommended in your area if it’s that wet, is the roof leaking? If so the best thing to use is 100% silicone, it’s more expensive but it works amazing a few gallons will do for a single wide home

  • @marcos22571
    @marcos22571 3 года назад +3

    I would have saved those aluminum sidings and used them as templates for the new cuts.

  • @johnvaldes8725
    @johnvaldes8725 Год назад +2

    Just wondering why you went with wood type replacement as opposed to metal. I'm thinking of doing just the opposite. My home has wood like siding while my neighbor's is metal. Both are the same age. My wood type siding is rotting while his remains good as new. This even though I repaint every year. I just feel myself that I would have been better off to purchase a home with metal siding as opposed to the wood-like siding.

    • @frugallandlord6974
      @frugallandlord6974  Год назад

      Good question, I don’t have a great answer though, it was on clearance sale at my local lumber yard lol, that’s why I did it that way, I also think it looks good, for sure metal will last longer but most likely will be more expensive.

    Does adding this kind of weight to the exterior walls cause any issues? I know those mobile homes are built with close weight and structure tolerances.

    • @frugallandlord6974
      @frugallandlord6974  10 месяцев назад +2

      Good question, this siding is much heavier than the aluminum that the home originally had, but it also adds a lot of strength to the structure because it’s more rigid, you can notice the difference when you close the doors and it’s also a quieter home with the wood siding, I also replaced the thin would paneling with drywall so that might have made a big difference also, I don’t see how the weight could cause any issues, I hope I answered your question, good day to you. 😀

    • @AbersonPlastering
      @AbersonPlastering Год назад +1

      Dry climate? isn't that snow? I like the video, it gives me some ideas. Yes folks install 2 layers of grad D 60 minute paper behind the siding., even if you live in Arizona where you get torrential rains in the summer

    Hi - I need to purchase the type of siding you are using. In your comments, you said you used b grade and paid $16 a sheet at the local lumber yard. Please let me know what the panels are called or made of so I can try to find them in my area. Thank you!

    • @frugallandlord6974
      @frugallandlord6974  3 года назад +1

      yes my lumber yard called it grade b or shop grade T1-11, it is made out of osb and it is pre primed, if you chose to go with the T1-11 at Home Depot it will cost you double, good luck finding it because not every lumber yard sells it, but I was lucky and my local yard had it.

    Can anyone tell me how I get a huge mobile home garden tub white again? It has yellowed to literal YELLOW! What paint scheme can I go with? Nothing but white or something that matches the hideous stained yellow monster tub! Its not supposed to be yellow. This I am certain of but for 12 yrs I've tried and failed.

    • @freckles3705

      If it is fiberglass you can buy a kit to paint it. If it is plastic I don't know if it can be repaired.

    • @frugallandlord6974
      @frugallandlord6974  3 года назад

      if its fiberglass you can buff it out like a boat, use an automotive buffer and some heavy duty rubbing compound, I have done this with a boat and it does take some time but the results are amazing, good Luck!

    • @chuckfinley5206
