I am going to be traveling for part of Oct & Nov, and if you'd like to follow what I'm up to I'll be posting frequently on: instagram.com/rachelfguitar/. Would love to have you as part of the community there as well! Hope you are having an awesome weekend!
You look way too happy in every frame and me makes me envy your happiness. Also thanks! Now I can make everyone in my house regret not smashing my guitar when they had the chance!
I really enjoy your lessons. I love your enthusiasm. I am extremely impressed and I hope you know that you don't need to listen to the critics and rude people. I am a beginner and I think your lessons are great. You have empathy for people who are learning and you make it fun. Keep doing doing what you are doing. You obviously know what you're doing.
Fantastic and intuitive explanation of palm muting. I've been playing guitar for about 2 months and just finished learning Rage Killing in the name. Applying palm muting made it easier to play and sound much better! Thanks Rachelf.
I really love your vids. Your smile is radiant and your infectious enthusiasm keep me enthralled. Thanks for encouraging us all to keep plugging away with practicing the more advanced techniques. Cheers
You are very motivating! I buyed a guitar a year ago and just gave up playing very quickly because I had no idea on how to learn and I didn't make progress. But now I'm starting again to play and your videos played a big role for me as an inspiration, thank you
Thanks for the lesson. I've been struggling with palm muting. I was very inspired by your Metallica riff. I've been practicing it and almost sound decent. Appreciate the lesson and demo.
awesome! Back when I was learning, it was difficult. But it's genuinely one of the most expressive things you can do once it's mastered, whether electric or acoustic, pretty much all styles - even fingerpicked!
Hey Rachel ! Thanks for the tutorial on palm muting. I suck at it but all it takes is practice, practice and some more practice. A person won't get better watching some one else do it...which is what I have a tendency to do. You've come a long way in your playing...thanks for being an encouraging guitarist...take care Rachel.
Once again thank you for the captivating lesson. I enjoy how you get to the point and not run on your videos with gibberish like a-lot of instructors would. Please keep up the great work.
Cool video you have a knack for explaining and teaching guitar skills. You inspire a lot of people I don't think I would have the patience to teach 🤘🤘🤘🤘
May i ask You to stop reading my mind please? :D 1. I was like Rachel should do more "how to" videos... 2. I started to learn to palm muting... Thanks for the video anyway ;)
Rachel!! Thank you so much for this. I have been totally struggling with this lately. (Your video is so timely.) I've been strumming and picking like I'm sawing wood. Then I watched Tim Pierce give a lesson on palm muting and Rick Beato talking about it too. Wow, not easy to master. But, as always, you've inspired me. I guess I got locked into a bad habit of strumming so wildly. Thank you. Please keep the videos coming. We're here.
I was palm muting the other day and I wasn't doing so well. So I had my overdrive pedal on and I turned up the volume on the drive and I dexided to try to do a power chords 80s song. Think it was the I Wanna Rock Twisted Sister song and I accidently had my palm in the palm mute position and I actually accidently perfectly playrd a 0alm muted chord! Then I tried the open chords and it sounded just like this video! I was so happy! Gonna try to learn somebody save me by cinderella. It has a lot of palm mute open chord/normal chord transitions which will be great practice for me XD
Hey Rachel! I recently started playing because of your master guidance and inspiration, and I was wondering, could you possibly make a video explaining how the amp settings work, as in what knob does what? This would be greatly helpful and appreciated 🙂👍 as I’m sorta confused with the complicated settings.
Thank you so much Rachael. It's interesting how when you mention rock and Metal you segregate both genre and subgenre as if implying Metal is not even part of the Rock genre or is stand alone... 😊 I do the same when I talk about Punk subconscious. Neither of us are wrong...
Hey Rachel! Thank you so much for the video! It was a huge help and I'm feeling so much more confident with palm muting. Do you have any tips for palm muting while strumming power chords up and down, not just chugging on the downstroke? Thanks!
I learned the value of palm muting the first time I plugged into an amp and turned it up loud and was inundated by FEEDBACK! If you're going to play a high gain amp with overdrive, you're going to have to control those open strings, that's for sure.
For sure! I typically think of that sort of muting a bit differently, will probably do another video on right hand muting for noise control in the future :)
Loved the video Rachel, thx for the help!! Now can you do a video on pinched harmonics? I have a huuuuge struggle with the thumb pinched harmonic. Sometimes it sounds cool and clean and other times...well...just help haha
About that Black Sabbath Paranoid. I have understand that it is common to yell to a rock band in USA that "Play Freebird". In Finland we yell "Play Paranoid". Or "Soittakaa Paranoid". Thats why my band always practice Paranoid before a gig. And If someone yell "Soittakaa Paranoid" we perform that. About 90 percent change is that we do it :D
I just bought a schecter extreme omen 6 I'll try out some of your videos to determine if I'm giving the guitar back or not. Theres an acoustic guitar I really want that would be for decoration, it's also weird because I dont have an amp yet for the sake of not wanting to be broke and trying to figure out If I'm keeping the electric guitar. If I get the rare acoustic I'll just save up for a synester guitar
One option if you can't get a full amp yet might be to pick up a relatively cheap audio interface to let you plug your guitar into your computer and then to use amp sim software. There are some good options out there for software sounds :)
@@RachelfGuitar hey I'm watching your "guitar and amps for beginners" I forgot to say that the schecter extreme omen 6 has a through body bridge and 2 humbuckers, is that good? I know it may be cliche or whatnot but I really like synester gates from avenged sevenfold, and I like other old band songs from three days grace that combine acoustic sections in a song then switch to metal. Not to say make a video on said guitar but if you could take a look and tell me if I chose right? It was about 300 dollars new (well I dont know if I can call it new since it was the one on the floor at guitar center for display and testing aside another in a different color)
Are you using the Yamaha THR amp behind you there?? How do you like it ?? Would like to have this same sound . Can you tell me what you are using to get this sound ??
Hey Rachel, thanks for the explanation! My question is where I place my right hand, when I switch between palm muting and not muting because when it just floats over the strings it feels kind of uncontrolled? Like, when I play the open A string, I can rest my hand on the E string as an anchor, but I can't do that when there is no string above :D So do you just float while playing open / not muted notes on the low string? Thanks :)
Hi Can you do a video of how to do palm muting with alternative picking? I can only do it with down picking. If I try up picking it just sounds horrible and twangy and not muted at all.
Urgh....It just it so awkward. I am going to work on this all week and see if I can get more comfortable with it. I have to learn using it. So thank you for covering this. It is definitely something I have been avoiding.

I didn't know I could palm mute above the bridge. Thanks Rachelf. I hope I get a gf at the tex mex lounge club.
Hi Rachelf, can you please do a video on strumming patterns? Thanks X
You look way too happy in every frame and me makes me envy your happiness. Also thanks! Now I can make everyone in my house regret not smashing my guitar when they had the chance!

Good stuff Rachel! Now, on top of getting really good on guitar, you have become a good teacher as well!

This is a really good lesson. You have a knack for explaining things in a 101 level way and there isn't enough of that on RUclips.
Thanks so much!
Oh Rach! Love your smile. It's so inspiring for the beginner guitar community.
