  • WARNING: THIS VIDEO IS VERY EMOTIONAL!!! IF YOU DON'T WANT TO CRY, DON'T WATCH! (lbvs)
As the 90s R&B group H-Town once sang, "Emotions make you cry sometimes" ... and the day after my talk with my mom ... I could NOT stop crying.
Filled with anxiety about my dad having the same reaction plus other negative thoughts .... I couldn't stop the tears. So when I got settled in my AirBnB, I decided to talk things out ... and I recorded it.

You are in no way a cry baby, girl. The journey you are on is going to be full of emotional ups and downs. You will only fail if you refuse to face those emotions. You are strong. Tears are a sign of strength, just as much as, if not more than, a sign of weakness.
When I was 13, I learned that I had been up for adoption at birth. I learned this from my mother. That part never bothered me. Later learning that the only reason I was kept was because both sets of grandparents threatened to disinherit my parents (which is funny, since they were all broke) if they went through with it. THAT part bothered me. I never did make sense of why she told me the truth about how I got my name. I am sure I would have made up one awesome story and just taken that information to my grave.
anyhow. I hope you have spent more time talking to both Mom and Dad and that you all fully understand that you are not trying to kick them to the curb. Keep your chin up, girl. You got this.

Well I think you should know that I am not adopted however your journey has inspired me to get my DNA done because I have a lot of missing pieces to my puzzle. You are a definite inspiration. I really believe that your mother is being defensive and also a typical mother just looking out for her daughter. I think that once you let your father know your feeling in how you want answers I think things will be better for you. I know that a lot of African Americans feel like you feel and want to know what makes them who they are. I know I have for a long time but have gotten a lot of brick walls. Then this DNA thing has shown up. I am a little nervous. Girl you just keep moving forward I will pray for you that everything will work together and find it's place in your life. I KNOW IT WILL

Well, there's no way around it - your mom is your mom and she's worried about her little girl getting hurt! I have children your age and I know that even when your kids grow up - it's hard to stop trying to protect them. I know that you really need her support so of course it's kind of devastating that she isn't jumping on the bandwagon with something that is this important or realizing that you can make the right decisions. But everything you think and say makes perfect sense and it will all work out because you know what you're doing. It was a key thing that you explained to your biological dad that you already have a dad. Good for you!! Onwards!

When you adopt, that should be the first thing to consider is that they are going to want to know their biological background
