Lol! Looking like a 8-bit pixel NES game. How the host stream jacked!?🥴 Enjoyed the information for sure though. Great video. Edit: Blooper clips at the end were priceless! 🤣
I bought a collection a couple of months s was mostly 90’s X-men/x-factor. There were a few keys in it, first gambit, first apocalypse and some others but the seller was wanting way more than it was worth. Most of the book were bagged but none were boarded meaning that spine ticks and rounded corners were the norm. I had a price in my head and it was way off what the seller wanted, he had looked things up on eBay and “knew” what his collection was worth. This is when I had to educate him on the grade of comics and relevant values based on those grades. In the end I gave him a price that was fair and he tried to get me up but I was firm and willing to walk. Needless to say I got the collection for my price which I was happy about but you definitely need to be willing to walk away.
Unfortunately 15 out of the 20 listings on Craigslist in my area are “vintage comics wanted!” “Will buy your comics!” And the other 5 are listings for 90s comics at a $75-300 price tag for 1/2 a short box 😂. The comic community is huge in Omaha so deals are hard to come by.
Owning a press helps with buying collections a lot. I feel like you can be a little more confident buying collections, knowing you can save money and bump some grades. Nice collab guys.
Also worth considering your material costs if you're buying a collection. Bags, boards, and long boxes are only 10 or 15 cents per book, but they add up quick if you're buying a few thousand books.
"6.0's looking like 9.8's" lol funny but true good analogy. As soon as you leave you'll have second thoughts on the "What if?" basis to have waited a little longer for something you really wanted and don't want as far as to save your money. It's best to take your time and know exactly what your looking for and what you want and knowingly at the end you'll be happy leaving for making the right choices and decisions you've made. Patience.
Some great tips here. Just wish Gem wasn't looking like a 4-bit atari spirite from the 70s. Learning how to grade it very key. Even the difference between a 6.0 and a 6.5 can be hundreds of dollars for big money books. Overstreet has a good guide for anyone new. Great video! Nothing beats these crossover episodes!
Dang! This is one year ago and Gary looks five years younger than now! Tom looks fives years younger too! Keeping up with everything going on this hobby looks like it ages people quickly.
If you're planning to buy a collection this is amazing advice! My only issue is that this is too much a business approach to collecting! It's important stuff but it's promoting speculation above passion! My biggest number one lesson is "Collect only what you love" because if you don't you'll grow to hate your collection. It doesn't matter if it's $10 or $100. Space and time is really precious. Unless you're talking big leagues, $1000, $10000 comics.... just focus on what you love and you can afford, in terms of money, time and space.
Thanks 4 this Gem, especially since I'm barely getting back in the comic buying game since being a kid and a comic lover since the early 90s... appreciate it bro 💯💯💯
Gem Mint "Beers and Comics" LOL! From personal experience, no good decisions are made while drinking and buying comics, trust me, lol! You are awesome!
Very good Collaboration! Look forward to working with ya'll one day in the future. THUMBS UP! We love the channel here at The Card & Comic Shop in Bastrop, Louisiana!
Great info! Man, i just got back into the fun after rediscovering my 30 year old childhood collection. It's great looking at these books with adultish eyes now. Back in the day i just picked up the book because I thought it was cool. Now it's a whole new world!
I don't go out buying collections however this was a very informative video Thanks all three of you for sharing It does always suck when the live stream cuts out It's all good though. 🕷️
More difficult to do. Got lucky on a long box for $220 and found What If 10 Jane Foster in it. This was before they announced the movie so dumb luck and the seller through it in. Got it signed by Don Glutt for $8, cleaned and pressed for $10 and off to CBCS for $30 for their signature authentication.
I’m still trying to wrap my head around comics and doubt I will seriously jump into anything else, it’s so multilayered. Prints, misprints, 1st appearances (cameos and on page appearances), upcoming MCU/DCEU appearances,1st ongoing series, etc. Tips on how to memorize these things would be greatly appreciated and reduce my time when looking through bins at LCS’s dramatically lol
Being a "keeper" of comics much like any others I also have to think about the forces of weather! Keeping your comics in unsafe places like basements where flooding from hurricanes /tornados or hard rains can occur. Even Burglary or Electric devices that can cause fires in your homes ,if comics are kept in places that are near easley to ignite to flames and such ... it would be great to hear the measurements of precaution that you guys have taken to over the years to ensure that these heroesare kept safe for that one day they may come out of those boxes and storage bins to save the day once again !✌
Dope list! Just started looking for collections recently and all of this is super relevant. Damn Gem....other than asking if they have any other collectibles, next collection I check out I'm gonna ask if they have any extra routers so I can hook you up! Lol.
Great vid as always champ. Did you know that there is some herb named economic in comics and he uses clips from your videos and other normal youtubers to make fun of them? He is lucky it aint me.
@@GemMintCollectibles dont think so but i can send you the video so you can see it with the timestamp so as to not bore you with his "thats what she said" every 2 minutes
What should I be looking at for price when buying raw collections? Like price per book or box? What do you pay these 6-7 long box collections? Not looking for 100% perfect info here, but roughly?
Looked at a collection the other day. 600 books, couple keys like ASM 238, full run of Secret Wars, Spawn 1, and some earlier Turtles issues. All in all, maybe $800 retail. I thought I was fair offering $500. The guy wouldn’t even counter, seems like he thought it was worth $1000+. Sucks cuz there are some books I didn’t have and he wants to sell it all but at the end of the day, sometimes ya gotta walk
gem streaming from 2002 instead of 2020

I am dying, have a coupe beers an those 6.0 looking like 9.6. Been there but wasn’t comic hunting haha
Don’t even need a couple beers to get comic book “beer goggles”! 😂
Thank you Gem for getting this video together with 3 of the best (nerdy) content creators out rn. 👏

This video was dope. Much appreciated!

Great content! Great Collab!
Love this dude’s vids
Going through and catching up, I gotta know man where did you get that shirt
My teespring!
How do you learn to grade? Are there any tutorials ? Or do you just go off of CGC website ?
i learned just from experience... submitting books and comparing. I used to go through the cgc forums Can I Borrow A Grade thread to learn.
This video is really helpful!
This was GREAT 🤓✊🏾😎
