@UrsusArctosT34 - I personally think buses are a bad idea considering fuel requirements, etc., but they're currently pouring money into making large bus terminals at Tokyo and Shinjuku Stations, for just two examples. The system though, is that the buses depart at around 10:00 p.m., after the traffic rushes, then drive in the middle of the night when traffic is lightest, and arrive at their destinations around 6:00 a.m., before the morning rush. Logistically, it works well. - LHS
@UrsusArctosT34 As I remember it (I don't fly much within Japan, BTW), domestic air fares were really high, so even though the Shinkansen's were pretty pricey, they were a little less than air fare I think - but considering time to get out to the airport, check-in time, etc., they were about as fast to use to Osaka as airplanes, and more convenient. The thing now is so many people travel by overnight bus - which is cheap and can also save on a hotel bill. I like trains better of course. - LHS
@UrsusArctosT34 Yeah - they are more like airplanes these days. They also had a dining car back then - which they had had since the first one in 1964 - which is like traditional long-distance trains. In a lot of ways the bubble era is overblown, but there were a lot of luxury things created then. - LHS
one of the first travelling-style videos of the history
Japan from 1991! Great material. Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
I imagine you were holding like a big video camera recorder! Pretty old. Nice video
