    Once again, great video and playing Jon. I have always considered the Pacificas to be a nice "working" guitar series that for the most part won't break the bank. It's why I went with a Pacifica as my first electric (though a lower model in the series). They do what they are supposed to do, and for those of us who don't make our money playing they are a great option.
    As for the price differences and what folks prefer, I find now that the "lower versions" of many makers are getting a LOT of love now. The quality being put out in the "secondary shops" is getting better and better and as you say, sometimes there is just "something" about them that a player likes better... be it a neck profile, overall feel, just "something". And the more we like how a guitar feels when playing, the more we will play it.
    Cheers and keep up the great work!

    I recently am interested in yamaha guitars. I've never bought a pacifica as the case of many guitar players (I learned with a Ibanez SA) until now that I got a Pacifica 612. I felt in love with the guitar models 600's. After one month later, Yamaha launch a Standard and a Pro models. I like the Pacifica because it sounds different, sweet and hard sounds, versatile. And now this pro models sounds fantastic. Could be amazing a comparison between the 612 and the standard plus. Great video as usual Jon.

    For whatever reason, you made this guitar sound tons better than other reviewers. In most other reviews the pickups came across as a bit flat/lifeless, here they sound awesome. While I would personally love some fancier colors and the matching headstock of the 612, this is great value for money - it definitely beats the Fender American Pro II HSS in specs and tone. (While I do like the AM Pro II SSS, the HSS version sounds just awful.) Thank you!

    I like the same radius all over the neck more than the compound, agree with you. I think I need to wait until they add some proper translucent colours to Indonesian line. But the main difference is the feel of the neck at the back... On Japanese it feels expensive and nicer...

      The 13.8 degree fretboard radias is the most common amongst most of the guitars coming out of that factory. The compound radias is just another marketing ploy. Only the very top of the fretboard near the nut is slightly rounder, and we probably couldn't even tell the difference by looking at them. Personally, I don't believe it's better.

    • @ChidOki
      @ChidOki 8 месяцев назад

      @@andrewbecker3700a compound radius is not a marketing ploy, it’s an objectively different spec. You may not value it but it doesn’t make it subjective, a marketing ploy is something that is not different at all but just construed to be based on messaging.

    • @ChidOki
      @ChidOki 8 месяцев назад

      @@andrewbecker3700 strawman. Why does it have to be critical to the function of a guitar to be priced differently?That’s not the argument here. The point I’m making is your implication of a “ploy”, which is definitionally incorrect. (Also - Quilted tops? “Premium” hardware solely on aesthetics? Limited production of body color? Those are all examples of things that literally have no function at all and yet can get priced differently, and people will gladly pay more for. A compound radius at least changes the way it feels to play - so there is literally, absolutely some function in terms of playability even if not function on the sound produced by the guitar itself). I can be agreeable even to opinions different from mine, but I can’t figure out you doubling down on this one mate.

  • @worthmoremusic
    @worthmoremusic 11 месяцев назад +2

    I no sooner mentioned the new standard model on your pro review and PRESTO one was in your hands... Both nice guitars. I've discovered I prefer a 12" radius neck so I'm sure this model would feel good too...and while I also prefer maple fretboards, rosewood is also a nice feel. If only the thing weighed a "tad" less...LOL but as long as it's under 8lbs now that's something I could simply sit and play.... All n' all the Pacifica models are decent guitars and these new models as well.. Pro model seems to only come with maple neck. However I agree with you in that for price point, I too would opt for the standard and save that $700 difference. As always wonderful reviews and playing dear Jonathan ☺

    I like that Yamaha is dipping a toe into the higher tier guitar market, but per usual with Yamaha, they're let down by their marketing. The Pacifica name and shape is associated with inexpensive guitars, great inexpensive guitars, that most guitarists don't want to be seen playing live, purely the fault of marketing. If I were Yamaha, I would've created a sub brand with new model names and shapes to go after the mid to high tier guitar buying public.

    I remember when the Pacifica came out. It was always a pretty good guitar, but the "Yamaha" name somehow made it a lower level guitar. People's assumptions tricked them into missing out.

    Nice review Jon! TO all, Have to wonder, Yamaha really put nice hardware and electronics on it. Here's the but, and there are three of them. 1. This guitar has a thin pattern neck, I have to wonder why so many spec'd guitars coming into the North Am and Euro market are thin pattern necks? North Americans and Euro players make up the largest world population of guitar players, and are statistically larger (height/weight). Additionally, more of those guitarists being male vs female. By default the target audience have larger hands. As a player for over 5 decades (with large hands) I can look at a guitar on the rack at my guitar store (or read the net specs) and know it will not fit my hand. Second but, no roasted neck for the price being asked is way out of scope in today's market. Lastly, the guitar's platform - SuperStrat and thin pattern neck scream metal over the styles of rock/jazz/blues, so wouldn't that target prefer a Floydrose trem? The imported Schecters covers the market that Yamaha is targeting with this offerin, and Schecter does this at a high quality and much better value point, so isn't Yamaha really missing the market with this release? Love to here views on this. Cheers!!

    Yamaha just makes great stuff, but I’ve always thought of the Pacifica as just another one of the million Strat copies out there. They don’t excite me at all, even if they are great. I sure would like a P90 Revstar , though! Good video.

    Will say this. Unless you are a front line accomplished professional guitarist you'd be hard pressed to do better than a Pacifica 612 HSS. Graftek nut and trees. Seymore Dunkin pickups. Wilconson tremolo. With a professional set up that guitar will almost certainly be better than you are.
