Long story short: He was "outed" by some high-ranking guy, and...the 6 papers that had been submitted (and published) in scientific journals had to be redacted. (Can you imagine how the other authors of the papers took this? We're talking about their academic reputations!) He destroyed 60+ peoples reputations, which took them 7+ years to retain. (This was in an offshoot of optics, since I don't want to tell you his name.) He was fired, of course, and my friends have told me he now lives in a small mobile home (wish it were a van), down by a river in Iowa. He cannot ever work in the semiconductor industry again. He's living on Social Security.

I know this is cliche but time will heal any wound.
