8:42 /mnt directory will not show any info about the mounted device in it until you mount it there, it's just a conventional mount point for temporary file systems in linux

System itself can not use /mnt directory. This directory is for the system administrator. If your system automatically mounts any flash drive, then it should mount it in /media, not in /mnt.
