- I had the pleasure of speaking with a marvelous coffee roaster from Shanghai China. We discussed the current lockdown situation, the coffee produced in Kona and China, roasters, and life. Matt is a super humble dude and it was a pleasure to learn more about his culture and what the coffee scene is like in Shanghai!

@@RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee Thanks Rob, keep the excellent work!
No problem! Thanks so much for tuning in!
Thanks Rob for giving us your time! Hope to catch up with you again once we are back in Hawaii!
Yes indeed dude! I can’t wait to hear more for sure! Keep me posted on when you get back over there!
Hey Rob! Mike from central Wisconsin. Great video! Its great to get coffee insights from around the world. China has such a huge economy and opportunity for small specialty roasters in the US. You've provided a great opportunity to link up with Matt for those who may wish to explore the Chinese markets. If I quit my day job I'd certainly try to sell my specialty hickory-roasted coffee there.
Best Wishes!

Hickory roasted coffee? Is that flavored coffee or wood fire roaster?
@@deathkid411 I'd like to know more about Hickory coffee as well!
Thanks Mike! I appreciate the kind words. I need to try this hickory coffee you speak of! Haha
Did you guys talk at all about how preferences or sensory perception is different in Shanghai compared to Hawaii?
All consumer senses are different by geography and culture. Shanghai itself is quite interesting. There are a lot of light roast lovers in the former french concession where more expats live. And in a city of 25 million, you are sure to find a market that loves what you roast.
Thanks for jumping in Matt!
The thing is that it's not the government that does this. It's the people that enforce the government's rules. China has a government problem AND a culture problem of blind obedience.
Ya I definitely would like to visit and see first hand. It’s so hard for me to wrap my head around how it actually may be because of how relaxed everything is in Louisiana.
