Trying to imagine a Metallica fan in 1983, thinking they have found the heaviest thrashiest shit they ever heard and then someone is like "hey have you heard of Slayer?" and then they shit their pants immediately upon hearing it.
The 80's was like an arms race with bands trying to be faster heavier and darker, Until Death Metal. I mean it kept going through the 90's with progressive stuff but it kinda hit a ceiling and then people started trying to mix Metal with this and that. I've heard some kid talking about "Dad Metal" LOL Yeah well whatever there is now is just variations of Dad Metal. That's my take.
true story, metallica on ride the lighting opened for wasp when i dioscovered them, slayer was headlining reign in blood when i discovered them. great days i was in middle school
Slayer Metal Blade era is the only Slayer era for me. I liked it when Slayer's influences were predominantly Venom, Mercyful Fate, Iron Maiden, Discharge, etc before adopting U.S. hardcore punk influences like Dead Kennedy's, The Germs, etc. Early Slayer, to me, beats Slayer Def Jams records era hands down.
Technically you're right. But remember that "Reign in Blood" is also a masterpiece of extreme metal and one of the best Slayer records of all time. I agree for "South of Heaven" and "Seasons in the Abyss" - I don't like them as much as first three albums and I consider them as highly overrated. Frankly I prefer "Divine Intervention" than these two quoted above.
Executioner I acknowledge the fact that Reign in Blood is their best album the band has ever belted (although I personally dont like it). Imo I liked it when Slayer and other early 80s to mid 80s Extreme metal / Black Metal (First wave) bands or whatever people call them played fast heavy metal style (speed metal) or with a D beat drum pattern where bands were not super fast and still kept it in the veins of heavy metal.
@@executioner1985 the only reason reign in blood is considered good,is cause most people of the new generation are stupid and slow and can't find the older stuff. Slayer sucks in general but show no mercy is their best album...
I wouldn't say that Slayer sucks, neither that "Reign in Blood" is their best album ever. I think that their early stuff is very extreme and influential. I consider "Show no Mercy" as proto-black and "Hell Awaits" as proto-death metal albums. I like a lot "Haunting the Chapel" EP and "Reign in Blood" LP but they're aren't that good as two first LPs - it's my personal opinion. I'm almost always skipping "South of Heaven" and "Seasons in the Abyss" (both are kind of mediocre/boring thrash metal for me). I like very much "Divine Intervention" (a lethal "RiB/SoH/SitA" mix). I have no particular opinion about "Undisputted Attitude", I like it's idea. And once heard the next studio album I didn't pay much attention no more to future Slayer stuff. Sorry for that useless monologue.
