I know it sounded like a load of cutlery that dropped but I swear, the amount of people purposely coughing at the snooker is outrageous. How can so many people have a cough at one event?
It always makes me curious, everyone in the venue has a flu or something
I bet it’s because the target audience at a snooker event could be described with the word “respectable”

The better soundproofing/dampening, the less background noise there is, but that also makes any other sound much more noticeable and there's nothing in between the playing area and the audience to stop the sound. Frankly I'm surprised how quiet it is and how few coughs there are considering an audience of thousands in the middle of flu/cold season.

It happens and sometimes you have to release the built up disappointment/frustration in a way not usually seen by most. Doubt folk or MS will lose any sleep over this trivial event.
Last time a snooker player was that angry it was STEPHEN LEE when he discovered the only food on offer was a salad bar!

@@briancorley1991 I think for most it's just banter but some are blinded by favouritism. Seen worse belligerents from nearly every other player on the tour and the same people upset with Selby will defend them. To appear at the Masters these players should be respected whether you like them personally or not.

Some people forget the snooker players are humans and are entitled to show emotion that they are feeling as it can be the most frustrating game in the world or the best game in the world, I would of reacted the same way as Selby to be honest.
hate Neil Foulds **at times** even though he is prob the best analysist/comms on the tour, every time someone of a high standard misses a ball, he's always 'oh a kick, a noise, pressure, a cough, a fly, a breeze etc etc' even top players miss shots, their not machines. these mini distractions do not put players off, they are not surgeons.

I’ve long wondered why WST aims for dead silence, where one loud noise can disrupt you, vs a constant background noise where, as you say, loud noise would be less disturbing. Especially considering 99% of snooker clubs in the country have radio or some form of tv on 24/7 in the background

Come on, a professional player at his standard should not miss a shot like that regardless. His whole demeanour approaching that shot was all wrong, if he was put off then he should have stood back up , re assess the shoot then go for the shot

at the moment of the swing, it's crucial to have silence/composure uninterrupted. It sounds like you've never played Snooker
someone was washing dishes, someone was coughing, someone was gaming and it's totally natural emotion from professional player, they aren't robots, they are always under pressure and tension on their nerves is huge.

@e.e121 Hello. It's situational... if you're going to play at a noisy club ,you're OK with the noise, which becomes white noise eventually. At the Ally Pally, where etiquette is king , the players don't expect to be playing in a Greek tevern. Any player would have reacted to this. Mark is a human... unlike criticism-thirsty people like yourself.

chess and snnoker players fascinate me. They want to get paid big and they don't accept any noise, it's worse than sitting in a classroom. No wonder they're paid so little. Those are the only sports I can think of that care more about the players than the fans. Dart require focusing as well but no one runs around and hush hush the fans. So does basketball and the players have learned how to shoot 3pts while everyone is showing..
