Other Christians believe it is either living with the Tri omni and tri Holy God in Heaven or burn in literal fire and brimstone for forever.

Ok, I hope you guys love a good irony. Because I've got a great one for you! So, I had recently returned some books in my audible library that I knew I'd never actually listen to; which means I had several credits now to use as I wished. I'm usually a fantasy fiction freak, but for some reason... I felt the desire to venture out and get something different - which is odd, because honestly when it comes to audiobooks, if it's not going to capture my ADHD brain's attention, and unless the narrator is freaking phenomenal and sends me on a journey....I won't vibe with it. Also, I'm sorry to say, religiously based books aren't really my cup of tea. Enter the irony: For some reason I felt the desire to get THIS book. I figured "Fiiiine.. if it sucks, I can just return it." I didn't even realize the irony of the situation, until I literally stayed up ALL NIGHT listening to the book. I. couldn't. Stop! I've had so many similar experiences like he has! The undeniable, indescribable feeling when he prayed about the Book of Mormon. Prophetic dreams. That horrid evil spirit that seemed to want to destroy your very being and you can't even speak.... And then as I was writing my review, I was stating ..."never judge a book by its cover. It may seem simple and unassuming, but it is RICH AND POWERFUL!" Then I stated how grateful I was for the book I never realized how much I needed, and just couldn't stop reading until.... Until.... It hit me. Ohhhh the irony! The absolute irony! I just started laughing.. 😂😂😂😂 David couldn't put HIS book down either! 😂🤭💃💁♀️
I love David! He was the only person in Utah I had any contact with prior to moving to Utah, one email. Then I walked into my first ever LDS meetinghouse after moving, and his name was on the program. Then I ended up joining that ward and he was amazing to learn from in EQ. Hi Brother Dollahite! I took your class on the Family Proclamation once upon a time - pretty sure it was one of the first semesters that it was offered. Good to see you again, and to hear your amazing testimony.
What David Dollahite is describing near the end is the baptism of fire. Like David, I received it too and was utterly transformed prior to joining our Church. That common experience, that he told in a BYU devotional, is what led to our initial email exohange.
I really appreciate this video. Being raised in the church I love hearing testimonies, spiritual experiences, and conversion stories of those that were not raised in the church with/of The Book of Mormon. They are tender mercies to me. Thanks for sharing David Dollahite! David Snell thank you for your moment of vulnerability at the end in sharing your testimony of the Book of Mormon. I feel that your experience is very similar to my own and how at times I must admit “I don’t know” and then lean on my spiritual as well as intellectual testimony of the Book of Mormon for those times I don’t have answers. I’m about the same age as Dave and had an almost identical spiritual experience except I was in Utah and I joined the Catholic Church. I spent almost 2 years studying religion. Ironically, most of my source material came from the BYU library.
My father in law had a similar experience, but he left Catholicism for Evangelism and then finally at age 21 the LDS church and never turned back. God loves us and speaks to us all. He guides us, I firmly hope at least.
His experience is similar to Oliver Cowdrey. Joseph gave a revelation revealing the the prayer he gave to God and the thoughts of his heart. Likewise the missionary spoke the words that the Holy Ghost gave him which revealed the thoughts of this man’s heart. In the other words what greater witness can you have then from God? If the missionary had said these are the thoughts of your heart and they weren’t then the gentlemen would have known it was a false spirit. But this man knew the thoughts of his heart and the spirit of truth spoke through the missionary revealing the thoughts of his heart that only he knew about.
Why is it that some people can read and sincerely pray about the Book of Mormon without receiving these tingles, purging feelings, visions of the future, etc.?
That is a really good question! And I don't think us LDS have a clear answer on that although people like to say that one must ask in sincerity, in faith, with a desire to believe and do good (Alma 32 is a favorite of mine). Alot of people just read it to tear it apart and the spirit doesn't usually work through contention. Regardless, one of the things I like about the LDS faith is that we truly believe everyone is a Child of God and he will take everything into account (situations in life, desires of your heart, etc) when working out your salvation with you. I don't think the Book of Mormon is inerrant just as I don't think the Bible is but I have read the Book of Mormon and the reason why I think the teachings in it are true is because it has made me want to be better, to love and serve others more and to make good choices that bring about good consequences. I am more at peace when I read it. That is just a fact in my life. But I cannot speak for you. Just remember, if you read the Book of Mormon, look for how it might influence someone to want to be a better person. Are you Christian, Agnositc, etc? I am curious about your story.

As for my story, I am not a Christian. Agnostic is pretty vague, so I tend not to use it-we are all agnostic to some degree. If pressed, I would call myself an atheist, as I haven’t found any reasons to believe in any gods so far, but I am willing to be convinced that gods and religions are real and true, and I will happily admit my error if I’m wrong. I actually had this question for awhile too! Yes, I think it's possible for people to pray and not receive an answer. I've actually seen people do it-a couple once prayed in front of me (with me) on my mission and said they didn't feel anything. This experience was a little upsetting and confusing for my young missionary heart. I couldn't understand why they were not given an answer. Now-I don't know what ever became of them after that prayer because I was transferred and that was a few decades ago. But-here's what God has taught me as I have reflected on that experience over the years. It was part of their journey for a reason! I may not have led them to the point where they converted to anything, but I did help them get to a point where they prayed and spoke with God. That is important! Not everyone has the spiritual gift to believe and have answers right away. For some of us, it's a process-even a lifelong process-but that's ok and it counts! God's plan and His power to save are great. He knows that couple and they are important to Him. I have no doubt that even though I never saw them again, that God has participated in their story over and over again ever since. As long as we are seeking Him, He will respond. He loves us all and knows us and our needs. He will patiently work with us and teach us and build us every day. If we listen and look for His voice, He will never stop answering in exactly the way we need it, until at last, it is enough to bring our wandering hearts back to Him❤ I wish you the best!! Thanks for giving me the opportunity to ponder on that experience again. I have felt a spiritual uplift and affirmation while writing this response. God is good and He loves us.

There is truth and error in all world views I would think. I am quite intrigued my Atheism. There are many good Atheists, who just want to live good lives and leave the world a better place for others, just like there are good Christians or people of other faiths. I have huge issues with some Christians who seem to believe that everyone deserves infinite torture for a finite life of sin, especially those who do not believe like them. That sounds like Hilter. Other than that, if you are trying to live a good life, if you are kind to others and are not negatively interfering with the choices of others (choices that have good consequences), if you are open minded and trying to learn truth in whatever way you think you can learn it, I think that person doing ok. Thoughts?

For me the foundation has always been that there is a Living God. This is not something I believe, it is something that I have always known for as long as I can remember. My one great challenge was not if there is a God, but does God love me, and thankfully that challenge has been answered many times over in ways that are meaningful to me. The Book of Mormon is also something which I have seen as actual history, but when I was in High School I decided that if what I believed about the Book of Mormon was true there would be some external evidence that I could find. So I looked for that evidence. The first question was is there a civilization in America that had the culture and population which would make it reasonably possible to be the Nephites? That was easy since there are many that were sophisticated and large enough to qualify. Then do any of those civilizations fit the time frame of the Nephites? Again yes I found that the Maya fit almost perfect, but they are known to have human sacrifice, and after a little consideration that seemed reasonable since I needed to account for the Lamanites as well. I was pleased to discover decades later that actual scholars shared my view of where the Nephites might have been and that there was even more evidence than I ever realized. I have always known that God lives, and once I truly accepted that he loves me individually I know there is a Christ. I am more than satisficed that the Book of Mormon is what it claims and know its record to be true, as well as having a profound impact on my own life for the better. I also as a result find the fact that Joseph Smith is a prophet of the living God inescapable so the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints is the Lord's church on earth. I could not have faith in any other religion or denomination because they all lack the evidence I need for my faith. You guys do good work. Thank you.

What the Book of Mormon not being historical or, what it claims, would mean to me, is that God possibly doesn't love me individually and so having faith in him might be a waste of time. On the other hand The Book of Mormon being true proves both his existence and his love for us at least collectively, but yes even if the Book of Mormon is not what it claims to be God could still exist in some form.

If it wasn't true and historical I would need to reconsider those implications, and it would put into question God's love for me individually.
In 2023 I would NEVER EVER EVER invite a convert to visit or attend BYU if my desire was to see his/her testimony in God grow hahahaha. Anyway, what a great conversion experience for David. @Michael As a traditional Christian, I have more in common theologically with Muslims and Jews than I do with Mormons. When I have a dialogue with a Mormon, I feel like I’m having dialogue with someone from a non-Christian religious as opposed to a Christian of another denomination.

Obvious you have no idea what you are talking about. Most Chritian churches , whether they lnow it or not believe God is trillions of people! First they believe God The Father, His Son Jesus, and the Holy Ghost share one body. Then Jesus says we need to be One with God. So then if we are then the Godhead isnt a Trinity! While we believe the Godhead is 3 seperate people but working together for a common goal. At least our view makes sense. The only was the other works is if The Godhead is a molecule.
