I am happy to publish this new after effects tutorial on how to generate realistic procedural clouds.
This After effects project doesn't require any plugin, no images, no prerendered footage, a fully animated clouds with the option to autogenerate instances.
I noticed people are downloading the files without practicing the tutorial, and now project files are no more for free:
You can still download the project files on:

This is the most comprehensive cloud tutorial in youtube
only needed the first half, but stayed to watch the second, the camera stuff was enlightening. Thanks a lot!
used tobe lol same
I've been spending all day trying to create this in C4D and Blender, and then you come along with this genius way of making clouds... Just wanna punch myself for not thinking of it first! Simple, easy to tweak, effective. Brilliant. Always tried to avoid clouds in AE because they never really looked like I wanted them to. But these are pretty damn close to photoreal when layered and offset.
2nd that
same here brother. we just gave up on using maya bifrost after this video.
The exact same thing is happening to me, for a week I have been looking at how to do it with C4D and I can not.
This feels so professional, and it is super beneficial to not have to search for the perfect stock footage. Thank you!!
I'm really new to AE (I have done a couple of full courses...so much to learn...) I did manage to get some really nice clouds. Ive never used the camera function before and I got lost a few times, especially when trying to sweep up on the cloud to change camera position at 10 seconds but I just used the position handles (?) kept repeating the steps and got to the end of the tutorial. Really enjoyed it, very clear instructions.
i had over 16 years in this field and i want to say this video is the best tutorial ever, made a real thing from scratch... wish all the best
your comment MADE MY DAY.....Thank you soo much
Probably the best AE tuto I've seen so far. Thanks
Wow! That's the best and fastest way to create clouds which looks super 3D without even having to simulate & render in 3D for God knows how many hours or days even! The proximity operation blew my mind in the end! I never thought it was possible with AE to create such realistic clouds! Thank you so much❤❤❤❤
Thank you for this awesome tutorial. This is the most realistic AE-generated cloud that I've ever seen! 🍻
Amazing. Best Ae cloud tutorial.
Excellent and thorough tutorial for a high quality effect. Also enjoyed the background music which is more than I can say for most other tutorials!
Thank you so much, your calm voice and the speed of description are perfect to understand everything clear.
Subscribed for that opacity expression alone, keep it up!
Thank you... your comment made my day ;)
The way you start a video is how everyone should do it. SHOW what we'll get and EXPLAIN the process. Awesome!
The opactiy expression is really life saver
Thank Youuuuu!!! I have been working on a project to create fog/cloud with this effect for a few months. I've tried many different tuts and techniques but never managed to get it right until now!!! Really appreciate it and all the tricks and techniques you have shared are very helpful! Have a blessed day! Best regards from London !
Wow, the complexity in the adjustment layer adds so much. Thank you for making this!
I am glad to hear that. thank you.
Probably the best tut on clouds I've found. Thanks for sharing!
This is the Best Tutorial Ever!!
WOW! Your knowledge and use of expressions is amazing! :D
Very nice and usable. Note: if you want to save CPU you can switch off the second Turbulent Displace, render time becomes less than half.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! It has worked perfectly for my project! Bless you!
Genius.....So humbling to see you work.....Thank you......You are really an AE master
This helped me so much! You actually made me like this program, I had no idea one could do stuff like this, so nice!!
This is Super cool....every time I google and download png clouds...but this is really cool method....Thanks!!
Very nice tutorial! This is show how simple expression can make all the difference. Bravo!
Thanks for making this video, it's really helpful for a project I'm working on!
I love the thought process and the automation of things like the cloud z position, real time savers! great tutorial!
Nice to hear that... that pushes me to work hard on more tutorials.
Very clever solution! Thanks, appreciate you sharing :)
AMAZING!!! I did it myself and its simply awesome! Thank you!
🙌 THX! Excellent! I made a cloud over a 3D terrain and the result is incredibly convincing!

Very very beautiful tutorial on clouds, sir. It's so natural and none can believe it is made in Ae. Kudos!!!!!
OMG THANK YOU!!! I've been trying so many different approaches!! none of them gave me result this great! you are a legend mate!
Thank you! I'm making a video via photo compositing and After Effects animation and trying to make the scenes look less static so added some subtle moving clouds.
Superb tutorial. Creates great looking clouds from a series of very simple steps! Nice work.
Really well done! One of he best methods I've seen.
Glad you liked it!
Just finished and it's amazing. I Made some beautiful cotton candy clouds brother
Beautiful FX, wonderful illusion👍👍👍👍👍 Very helpful to me 🙏
Mind blown!! Thank you for this, so many possibilities.
omg thank you so much this is the coolest thing i was trying to create a cloud animation like this in blender but it looked terrible thank you
Awesome tutorial! Thnk you!
ThankQ so much from bottom of my ❤heart❤ bro..... i have spent lots of time to search perfect stock footage for my videos. you put the end for my search time with this video bro... thanks....
Please keep making tutorials, this was awesome. Super useful!
I am working on a new one to be ready soon...sorry for this delay.
really nice and very useful tutorial...
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I've been looking for ways to make animations in AE to accompany guided meditations and binaural beats, and this is finally pointing me into the right direction 👍
Thank you Sir. Very informative tutorial.
Really enjoyed this tutorial! Absolutely amazing. I know it must be time-consuming for you, but you have a subscriber for life, and would love to see more regular content from you. Thanks!
That was AWESOME. Thanks!
You sir are fantastic, thank you very much!
Wow! I don't work with AE/Adobe Premiere helas. Searching for a solution which I can use in Davinci Resolve. But very nice job!
Wow! Excellent tutorial! Thanks.
Very well thought out! 11 out of 10 for sure. It also renders very fast. I am doing a project where I need someone falling through clouds from the top view and this is going to work perfect.
Very helpful tutorial! Thanks very much. Can you tell me whether the animation of the clouds that is automated in your example can also be animated with keyframes? I want to create a loop. That's why I need a clear start and end point. So I should be able to set the shape at point A, then change the shape to point B and finally back to point A. Thank you.
yes sure, you can just replace the expression in the evolution properties by the needed keyframes.
Amazing! Thank you, beautiful effect.
Thanks you!!! I have a question. How can I loop this? should I just make the video longer with more clouds?
THIS IS AWESOME IT LITERALLY LOOKES REAL THANK YOU MAN
Just the perfect thing was I looking for. Thank you so much dude you're a lifesaver
Super helpful .... thanks for the video... really this video is different..and not like those junks that is filled in youtube.. subscribed your channel ... and want to learn more about turbulent displacement and MOHO animation.
WTF! This is amazing. Although I could not follow the whole thing (my needs were satisfied quite early), I will definitely come back to this one some day. Awesome!
Really nice and fast. Thank you so much.
Year's old tutorial, Still feels like a damn new trick!!
thank you awesome:) I'm understand to see how I make something from scratch.
Great!
This is an amazing tutorial! Thanks so much for sharing and uploading :)
Great tutorial, Thanks!
Genius, such a great tutorial, thanks!
This is a fantastic tutorial. Well made. Thanks!
You r welcome.
Amazing stuff! Thank You!
what an awesome tutorial. may God bless you.
exactly what I wanted
Thank you for sharing this great tutorial! I followed it step by step, and there is one thing that I'm having issues with that I wonder if you might be able to help out with. When creating the animation of the camera by adjusting the Z position, I am seeing different behavior than you. When I scrub the z-position, the amount of change gets smaller and smaller with each successive drag of the cursor upwards. The first keyframe is at a negative z position, and as I drag up it gets closer and closer to zero, but in smaller and smaller steps, and will not allow me to go higher than zero. In the video you adjust the camera z-position at the 10-second mark from -674 to 3568. As you zoom, the point of interest also changes. When I zoom, the point of interest doesn't change, and I cannot zoom beyond a value of zero. Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to provide with this!
In case anyone else has this problem, the issue is that the z-position of the camera and point of interest are too similar, and as the camera gets closer to the point of interest, it slows down the rate of change. To resolve the issue, increase the value of the z coordinate for the point of interest. In my case, I made it around 6000.
@@JoshPSommers thank you !!!
life saver
@@JoshPSommers thank you :)
Thank you! Really nice clouds!
Great slow explanation, *loved the pressed-keys-popups* .
How would you animate horizontal moving clouds, like on Landscape view? @Lajneffects
I would suggest the same process, but instead of animating the camera, animating the position keyframes for each cloud
Amazing tutorial man thank you so much this is so cool!!
Thank you so much.
Rly good and detailed Tutorial.. Perfect :)
it was really helpful thank you
What the helll cmon what did i do while watching you mate !!! OMG thanks a lot!
Excellent bro...
Thanks a lot. Good Tutorial
WOW, great little tricks that I really appreciate! Thanks a lot
Wonderful. Thank you
The best I've seen so far!!!
Happy to hear that. Thank you.
All I know that this guy is so intelligent ;)
Does this tutorial accommodate for camera rotation? I want to pan left/right for a scene during the fly-through, but keep the clouds looking three-dimensional. BTW this is a VERY killer tutorial. THANK YOU!
awesome explained👍
This is so helpful man i love it thanks for this tutorial.
Thank you...am happy it helps.
Hey, great tutorial! I think this is the best tutorial for fast cloud! I've searched something for blender, but this is 3000 time better and faster! For having the same effect in 3D you need to wait like a 30 min render for a frame!
Excellent tutorial!
Just what I needed thank you
Hey, nice tutorial, one question
If I want to color the clouds, is it possible? Thanks!
maybe you can add ''tints''
Bless u for making this
Thnx! very nice tutorial
This is absolutly awesome! thanks for sharing =) I'll make Venus' atmosphere with this tutorial
Damn you are genius! It's very helpful thank you very much.
