      As someone who struggled getting a wheeled Vex bot just to properly turn onto the right path from starting position a long time ago in middle school, I will say a self-unpacking program is really impressive. I can easily imagine when future Transformers toys open up their boxes themselves and self pack into them at the push of a button.

    This is the sort of presentation that belongs in EPCOT.
    I would love to visit their new 'tech pavilion' and see them demo their innoventions with un-themed robots or other special effects. Future world type stuff. Inspire children to make cool stuff when they grow up.
    There used to be a thing in DHS where you were in a small room with a hologram of Jack Sparrow, a simple tech demo that they made an attraction out of. it was awesome, more of that please.
    The Play pavilion is still in planning, right? please consider adding a space (like Turtle Talk in the Seas) where you can feature some cool working prototypes or other WOW ideas that dont yet have a home in other attractions.

    As cool as Tinkerbell is, I prefer getting to physically interact with the characters. Hand holding as they skip along with kids, hugs, all that. It's not at all an issue for me to shrink down to the size of a fairy. I find that more fun, really, than having Tink come to me.
    As for Judy, she's really cool and I'm excited to see more stuntmatronics. Or maybe more fire breathing dragons like they had before New Fantasyland opened. That was so cool.

    • @wildwing94ckan
      @wildwing94ckan Год назад +32

      Right, but think about Peter Pan or Captain Hook walking around with that lantern with Tinkerbell inside, game changing character interaction while you can still meet a full sized Tinkerbell elsewhere.

      Maybe to add more motion to the land have Hook capture the Tink lantern in view of park guests. You then have Peter and some other characters try to find Tink with some "help" for the park guests. Or make it more of an interactive stage show. Capacity doesn't have to be limited to rides.

  • @averyeml
    @averyeml Год назад +31

    The Tinkerbell is cool (I remember hearing about it’s first test run) but I imagine it’ll work better when set up in a place where the Cast Member can be physically nearby where they can hear the kid, or with a microphone setup somehow, to get rid of whatever Zoom call-type lag they were having. It’s a deceptively simple thing that’s very cute and fun.
    The Judy robot is so cool. I’m sure it’ll be neat to see what will come of it, although I’m sure it’ll be like the Spider-Man robot for a while where she does a show behind a barrier for a while. One day though, I’m betting we’ll have automated walk around characters based off this.

  • @DeSinc
    @DeSinc 10 месяцев назад +7

    with the tinkerbell tech you could have the real life size actor in a big human sized lantern in an oversized room somewhere behind the scenes and have a shrinking tunnel that the kids can walk through to go into the small world and emerge to suddenly see they are tinkerbell's size now and the whole world has grown around them

    I had a robot meet and greet once with BB-8 in Hollywood Studios' Launch Bay. Even though it was a droid, it still felt sentient and realistic, as though someone was controlling the responses as we talked to it. It was worth the wait for me.
    Even though robotic stunts and meet&greets may replace some of the interactions, there will still need to be developers and engineers, as well as controllers and handlers for these characters as well, so I think the net net of this will not eliminate jobs on the whole.
    Now, if they take customer service aspects like tickets, guest relations, etc. and replace them with kiosks and robots, that would be very bad, because people want to talk to people face to face when they are conducting business or when they have important issues to discuss.

      You can sorta already do this with something called the "Looking Glass". The issue with that, though, is that it might not run flawlessly with school-issue hardware, so you'll probably need a powerful laptop, or bring your own rig from home, though that's assuming you want to run AI software and 3d rendering to attempt to mimick this interaction.

    • @OkayYaraman

      You could try creating something similar using the “Pepper’s Ghost” effect that they use in Haunted Mansion by making a lantern with a glass pane inside that is at a 45 degree angle to the floor/roof of the lantern and insert a phone in the top of the lantern with the screen facing down and brightness turned up so that the screen reflects off of the glass, then have your Tinkerbell actor do a FaceTime/Zoom call on a black background. It will be see-through and only work in low-light conditions, but that’s one way to do it.

      Honestly he can. Yes he will never be Walt but so far what he has been able to do since taking over Especially since bob paycheck left is astonishing. He’s really putting his money where his mouth is. And since he let off the leash. Now we can see what he can really do.

    While it is fun to see some robots riding around... You can't have the same interactions as cast members interacting with guests. Disney magic lives inside cast members and they share that with guests everyday. You can see little kids glow when they see their favorite characters. You see special connections made by cast members with children who otherwise have very little connections with the world. Don't think this is the way forward and replace cast members. Pay your cast members better because they give their best everyday to make your guests feel the magic.

      I feel the same way! I also totally understand your concern but I wanna add that I doubt these will be used in place of meet and greets, these sort of figures don't have the ability to be personable or interact with guests on an individual level and would likely not be reliable enough to be used in close proximity to guests. I imagine figures like Judy in this video would be used in stage shows or supervised performances i.e. how the animatronic of Spidey in CA is only used in a stunt show while a character actor portrays him in closer-to-guest appearances.

    Judy is the kind of robot I'd love to bring home to my parents. She's cute, she's talented, and she's not going to steal my job. Sorry, Alexa.

    I love this thing. As just a test robot, it already has the Tesla Bot beat. It might not have the AI the Tesla Bot has, but can the Tesla Bot get up on it's own wile wearing roller-blades? Also this Jude bot is way more cute, and is light enough to sit on your shoulders.
    The Tesla Bot may have more brains, but the Jude Bot has my heart. And I want one of my very own. ^.^

    I'd buy Thinkerbell as an AI assistant just for the novelty factor. Who needs a plain old speaker when you can have a fairy telling you dad jokes?
