      For information. Cloning has been possible for a long time. In 1996, humans managed to clone the first mammal. Dolly the sheep was born. So it is not at all far-fetched, if not theoretically possible today to clone a human being. It is already being done with organs.
      The only thing that still prevents humans from cloning people is the ethical aspect.

    Well, that's, like, your opinion, man.
    Fun behind-the-scenes bit: During the filming of the basketball scene, the director told Sigourney Weaver to throw the ball over her shoulder as she walked off the court, and they would fix the shot in post. First take, she tossed it behind the back, over the shoulder, and it went in. No FX needed. The actors and crew held it together for a second or two, then they all busted out cheering. Sigourney Weaver is a legend.

    This film is a lot of more fun if you regard it as a non-canon spin-off rather than part of the main series.
    Joss Whedon's writing is horrible but Jean-Pierre Jeunet's direction is amazing, so you end up with this weird hybrid of campy schlock and masterful art horror that has both too much and too little personality for it's own good.

      Director wanted more humor but something was lost in translation , french speaking director , english speaking cast .
      Also calling , Brad Dourif , weird , that is an understatement ...hope they get soon to Chucky series .
      People think they can write like Dan O'Bannon , they cant , specially not Ridley Scott , who added parts that were trashed from Alien movie to Prometheus .
      Theatrical version of Alien series movies have been better , lot of nonsense cut away , scenes that were not needed at all to get the story going .

    • @The_Curious_Cat
      @The_Curious_Cat 2 года назад +1

      Although Jean-Pierre Jeunet is a good director, I don't think he was a good cast/fit to the Alien franchise. His overall style doesn't fit with the universe. Plus using the same actors he worked before, The color grading that is very part of his style and many other things just make this more of a Jeunet movie rather then a Alien sequel. So the "spin-off" is a good description.
      Plus the writing is horrible, too campy, a cast that is basically there just to die, not much story arcs or character development. Ripley has none of the things that made her a great character, so the point of her being in the movie is... Zero really. A schlockfest indeed.

    • @OpenMawProductions
      @OpenMawProductions Год назад +2

      What ADI did to the alien design in this movie is also unforgiveable. Giger called the creatures "a giant shit." And also the huge disrespect this film showed to Giger as the creator of the creature that made them so much money. Seriously. They took all the "mech" out of the biomechanoid design, flattened and shorted the phallic shaped head, and gave the dome of the head a cockroach pattern.... Why!? I know, I know, the argument is because they're mutants.
      As to Joss Whedon's script... Reading the script, and watching the movie, they are very different. Whedon doesn't have this ridiculous humor in his version. If anything his script feels almost like a buffy movie with the way Ripley discovers her alien powers and realizes she can contend with the creatures. The newborn in his film is also much different, and there is far more character-action. In the final film there is one major set piece featuring an adult alien (The elevator shaft after the flooded cafeteria.) and then they adult aliens all but dissappear from the movie as major atagonists.
      The vast majority of the faults of Resurrection lie with Jean Pierre Jeunet. Yes, he's a great director, but not here. This is not an Alien movie. I'm still not sure why Weaver opted to do it, given she was so adament to die in Alien 3.

  • @nathanfitzgerald6651
    @nathanfitzgerald6651 3 года назад +25

    The reason for the newborn is because the cloned alien queen was mixed with Ripley's DNA in the cloning process (just as Ripley was mixed with alien DNA). That human DNA caused the alien queen to suddenly develop a human-like uterus and the half-breed creature inside it. I do think the movie should have done a better job of explaining that.

    I do like this movie. One of the issues is that the movie kinda doesnt explain that the Aliens do have a psychic link that they use to communicate between themselves. Thats why Ripley says "i can feel it, behind my eyes". She is refeering to psychic link that makes her feel the queen. Plus both Ripley and Queen have shared mix memories.
    The novel is more explicit. For example when the aliens attack the younger alien to escape. They had to asked permission to the queen, to do that. Or that Queen remembers how ripley was holding to one child when she was killing her eggs. Even the aliens are confuse about ripley. In one way they feel she is a part of them, but at same time she is not. Ripley is even worst... She is not the hero we know, she is more and antagonist... she really doesnt care about anyone...
    Johner is another piece that we do not now why he is such a jackass to Vriess! Or why Christie and Vriess are so close. In the novel Christie death is such sad moment.

      @acfan8253 3 года назад +6

      Oh yes, I remember the novel! It was Josh Whedon's script with no changes, sad they didn't add those character developments in the final movie. That, and the alien queen attack in the spaceship's garden park, it resembled like Jurassic Park, would have loved to see that scene.

    A few points:
    1: It took them 200 years to make a viable clone, Ripley 7. But, for whatever reason, 7 lacked a viable chestburster. Thus why we have Ripley 8. Presumably, 7 is being kept alive for study.
    2: The memories. Some broadcast versions of the movie have edited out the whole "why does she have memories?!" plot point. She has memories as a result of the hybridization. "An unexpected benefit of the genetic crossing".
    3: The thing with the creation of the Newborn is exclusive to the hybridization. As are a few of the other features of this batch of Xenomorphs.
    4: The Newborn was supposed to be a hermaphrodite. But, upon seeing the practical effects, the director famously stated "this is too much even for a frenchman", and had the genitals CGIed out.

    Back in the late 80s, early 90s, there was an event in London called Alien War. Basically it a space station/containment unit that had a group of the public being led around by a Colonial Marine, complete with uniform and weapons. Then an alarm goes off and an announcement that there are aliens on the loose. Sirens and flashing lights happen and the Colonial Marine tries to get us to safety. I was there with my kids and, at one point I was grabbed by another Marine, who had gone crazy and had a pistol to my head. There were actors running around dressed as aliens and it was very immersive. Great experience and I was so glad to experience it.

    Quite late at the party, but here are my thoughts :
    1) I did - and still - like Alien : Resurrection ! In fact, I like it more than some of the other movies from the franchise. Yes, there are cheesy and cringy moments, but it is the intent behind it. Liked so much the collaboration between the aliens to escape the room ; under water scene ; the horrible whitey alien ; the way Ripley ended him up and still got emotion for him as his "grand mother". Yup, I still really enjoy watching it.
    2) I don't get the way you watched the franchise movies (heard you watched Prometheus and Covenant before that one ?) : just watched your reactions to Alien, Aliens, Alien3. Well, when it came out I remember this : my mom came back in from her Christmas' shopping, and she just shouted to my sister and I "got you a present !! Cinema tickets !!". Alien Resurrection already being out for quite awhile, was hyped to finally get to see it (was still 15-16, so money wasn't that easy to earn and keep back in the days). Well, it was Titanic tickets. Dammit. Was pissed off, went to see the Titanic movie anyway...
    3) My Alien franchise movie rankings :
    1. Aliens : Yup. I'm that type of guy haha. First one was too slow for me when I was a youngster (Probably saw it first when I was around 10-11). That mechanic fight with the queen, that freaking sounding device, everything was perfectly done, IMO.
    2. Alien : Like said before, didn't dig that one as much as the sequel at first, due to my young age thrilling for action over suspense and build up horror.
    3. Prometheus : I like it so much. So well done. Naomi Rapace was great. Big big expectations building to Covenant.
    4. Alien : Resurrection. Yup ! There it goes.
    5. Alien3 : I liked the vibe so much of this one. When I saw it first I felt the urge to release it in the writing/scenario and production flaws. Still, I can't deny I really like it, and that gloomy mood is quite unique, IMO. Totally agree that Charles Dance's character quick death was a bummer. Never really felt that pain or disdain for getting no Newt or Hicks in the movie. Maybe because I was too young and wasn't a die hard fan at the moment, but I overcame it quite easily and walked through it.
    6. Alien : Covenant. Man, I had high hopes. I was soooooo hyped. I've been so disappointed. All the build up set in Prometheus gone in the first half of the movie. Blargh. Was bummed AF as it happened. I watched it back quite a few times since it, and still can't say "I enjoy it a lot". I simply can say that it is okay, not bad. Wasn't the case after I've seen it on the big screen for the first time though :P Had to overcome my first sighting for quite a while.
    So that's it ! Thanks for your reactions : they're so genuine :) Have fun !

    It's not the greatest film but it's an enjoyable action film to spend a couple hours watching. For me the backstory that is revealed in Alien vs Predator makes more sense and is far better than the weird black goo nonsense of the Prometheus films. I always loved the fossilized giant pilot from the first Alien but preferred to leave his species as just some unknown victims of the xenomorphs. The larger predators from the movie Predators was fascinating and I would like to see more of them and of Sanaa Lathans character. As a human who passed the ritual to become a Hunter and got her face tattoo and spear it would be great to see her again, possibly fighting alongside the original predators to rid the earth or some colony whatever of those large more savage brutes. Even an older Sigourney Weaver could reappear as an ancestor of Ellen Ripley. But for me any film focusing on David or the Engineers and black goo is a waste of time.

    When I watched this for the first time, an odd thing I noticed was that when the weapons were being fired, their muzzle flashes were much larger, giving me the impression that the bullets were actually miniature rockets. This was before I'd ever heard of Warhammer or Bolters or anything.

    • @Robert_Douglass
      @Robert_Douglass 8 месяцев назад

      For those who are unfamiliar with the idea of Bolters or Boltguns, a Bolter is a large firearm that fires a .75-calibre, two-stage, rocket-propelled explosive bullet with an impact-delay fuse and a tungsten penetrator, so it penetrates through layers of armour and embeds itself within a target's body before detonating. Very nasty...

    This is the "special edition" cut of the film, which is not Jeunet's director's cut, which was the theatrical cut. The special edition version has a completely different opening credit sequence (with unfinished VFX), as well as a couple of useless extensions of existing scenes and an alternate ending. Jeunet's cut is far more superior and less quirky.

    I liked Prometheus well enough, because I seen it as the beginning of it all, but Covenant, well it pretty much was Blasphemy to the franchise, I saw it as Mr. Scott trying to cram Blade Runner into an Alien film. Alien 3 would have been good if they just wouldn't have killed Newt and Hicks right away, that I think, is what doomed that movie more than anything. My favorite is Aliens, because I was both old, and young enough for it to scare the hell out of me for a long time.
