  • Paul had an idea to weld a Garden Hose Reel and used our Koike plasma cutting table with some new Thermacut consumables. He was really impressed with the compatibility and quality of the cuts.
We had a crash course on who is Thermacut?
Thermacut offers a smart solution of replacement parts suitable for Hypertherm® plasma cutting systems. They have unique improved designs that improve the speed and cut quality of your plasma cutting system. Consumables sets are offered as replacement solutions to OEM brand
and have mechanized and hand-held torch offerings. There are also retrofit options to older Powermax units (Powermax 600/800/900,1000,1250,1650). Thermacut has patented electrode and TCS connections.

Nothing against the people on this channel, but the content has fallen off significantly. I used to look forward to new videos and have actually learned from past videos, now a days it all about sponsored tools and getting free things given to people who don’t need it. Giving free machines or equipment to a working Joe like me or the other hard working folks who watch this channel could actually make a big difference in someone’s life. I miss Bob, Mr. Tig and the older gentleman who used to do MIG Monday’s.

All the people on this channel are good in there own way. For me it’s just the content that has had a down turn, and the shameless plugs for new fancy machines, grinding products, gloves and other gear. I couldn’t afford that stuff in a million years nor are these big name companies going to give me anything for free. As someone who has only been in the welding industry for 2 years I do miss the more informative educational content.

Aside from the obvious non DIY nature of the tools used…the actual product itself has some design issues and it won’t hold up. That material is not only far too thin for 100’ of water laden hose, but the reel, itself is too small. I’ll guarantee that base will bend. That is NOT a hose reel swivel, it’s going to end up binding up. And, it’s gonna leak like a sieve with no thread tape. I’d love to see a re-do with actual DIY grade tools and good engineering.

So I see other sponsors other than Neverlast finally on this show.
First No one has a CNC plasma cutter in there back yard unless they own a Business or built one from scratch.
Secondly I saw a lot of distortion in the side walls of the hose real while welding on that 6 inch tube guess you guys did not think to show how that was corrected and how many times either the welder fail to light off properly or the tungsten found it's way into the weld pool.
Now the frame of the hose reel came out nice after all the straight pieces were redone but that handle was a COP OUT AFTER ALL THAT WORK YOU MAKE A CHEAP HANDLE AND NOT A NICE ONE OUT OF ALUMINUM !!
I DO BETTER IN MY SLEEP.

I like the premise of the video but there's a few things that aren't great. Using a plasma table is fine, but you could at least point out that someone can freehand their cuts with a handheld plasma cutter or use a saw. In an 8 minute video on a welding channel there was what, 15 seconds of welding? It'd be nice to touch on technique a little bit more even though I get that's not what this video is specifically about. Also I agree with everyone that making that handle was completely pointless. Why not show us how to tig together some aluminum pipe into a handle.
I'm not going to sit here and bitch about video quality, but there is definitely a noticeable shift this year. I understand that it's difficult for new hosts to settle into an established show and am willing to forgive a lot but there have been some shortcomings for sure.
The product placement is also a lot. Multiple sponsors in such a short video just feels.... Cheeeesy. Ya gotta pay the bills but it's pretty disruptive in this video. Unfortunately I'm a welder not a content creator so I don't have any suggestions on how to make that work.

Having steel as a hobby, welding, cutting, fashioning steel CAN be expensive...(unless you do it the "old-school way !") Dern the CNC stuff. (That takes all the fun out of it !) DO everything by hand. Enjoy-joy doing it.
I have done it that way for almost 60 years ! It's very enjoyable, IF you let it be.! I don't do anything BUT steel. Stainless occasionally, but no aluminum. I use a Lincoln MIG that has been rebuilt twice, uses .035 flux-core wire, and an AC Buzz Box using Atom Arc 1/8" 7018 rods. Use Rustoleum XX2 paint and you're good to go ! That paint is more rugged than industrial paint ! and if you put it on while the part is still real hot, it bakes on and never comes off. It has to be GROUND off !!! There's not much you can't do, with this set-up, in a DIY home hobby shop setting. I've had the buzz box almost 50 years and the MIG almost 35, and I grew-up with my torch.
