As a middle school coach who had the privilege of coaching many of the Hickory kids, I was so proud of their performance in this game. Central Cabarrus has arguably been the best public school team in the state for the last two seasons. Hickory lost by nine, which is the closest game Central has had all year. Coach Willis of Hickory had a great game plan put together to combat Central's press. It was definitely the best high school game I've ever seen including the Roy Hamilton/David Greenwood team in California in the late 70's. So Congratulations to both teams. The level of play was outstanding. The sportsmanship by both squads was all you could ask for. I am a die-hard Hickory fan but I so admire the way Central plays and wins with class that I actually drove back over to watch them win the state championship against 71st. Our Hickory kids and Coach Willis and the Hickory community should stand proud for the way this team performed all season long.

the traveling call on the step back 3 for Central was absolutely the correct call. You cannot catch the ball in a stationary position and THEN take two steps in any direction without putting the ball on the floor. a step back is successfully performed when the player picks up his dribble during the first foot stepping back or when he is catching the ball and taking the step back simultaneously. Just sayin' :)
