    Wow what great views from Scrabo hill. It looks a great place to visit, we would like it there, assuming we could make the walk up the hill. It’s a big tower, built by donations or pay up or else I wonder? Two words to say about Stuart, neither to be put in print here. I agree, we shouldn’t think about the man but enjoy the folly itself. How did they manage running a tearoom with no running water? Tankered up? I bet you could have done with a cuppa after walking up to it, yeah I know, a Guinness 😅

    • @nakedireland
      @nakedireland  2 дня назад +3

      No idea how they made tea up there. I guess they must have taken the water up somehow. But, yeah, beautiful view.

      @@nakedireland Where there's a will there's a way as they say, no one said they couldn't do so they just did it. Tea and cake would go down well sat up there looking at the great view. Health and Safety wouldn't allow it today 😄

    Stunning view of the Lough! Better than looking at a parking lot, lol! Taking a break from research to take in beautiful Ireland. Ireland, as I mentioned, never gets old or boring. Thank you for taking us along to Scrabo Bo (I hope the spelling and pronunciation is correct) 🙂

    Beautifully shot, just fantastic lighting!! Striking view's from the hill. Its a common story isn't it? How the wealthiest can tend to be the lowest form of humanity. No matter what country. But beautiful landscape none the less. I took my wife's name when we got married exactly 35 year's ago! My Darling didn't want to give up her good name because of patriarchal convention's, and I thought the same. So we hyphenated! As kids we had a holiday for a summer in Killough, magic memories.

    When did you visit, any time I've been up there, it's always been open to the public for free?
    I was looking forward to your take on the interior, I'm sure you've been up there before!

      I think that was last Oct. The tower was closed for some sort of repair work so I didn’t get a look inside. I think it may be open again now.

    This is a fascinating well researched read NI. I'm afraid I have to admit that I was unaware of the finer reprehensible detail about the dealings of Charles William Stewart. They certainly paint a bleak picture of the man. Best wishes from the Belfast Castlereagh hills.

      Long time no see Tom, I hope you’re well? Yes, when I first looked into the guy I found a site on like praising him for the great work he did during the famine and holding him in such high esteem. I had no reason to doubt it, except that it’s always good to cross check sources. It’s disappointing that the guy turned out to be the opposite of what some believe.

      Ah NI, I'm still about the place in maybe a rather more limited capacity. I'm 71 now and had a heart attack in Feb last year. It has slowed me down a bit. But.... I'm still here and every day glad to be!
      I amended my notes on Charles William Stewart/Scrabo Tower this morning, when I read your notes on him. I'm afraid I had been completely taken in and hadn't done an in depth study! Oh dear! You are much more of a historian than I'll ever be.
      I used a paragraph of your notes and made reference to your channel. I hope that is ok by you.
      What you revealed was very disppointing to read but not unexpected.
      I hope you are good. If you are ever about Belfast I'll buy you that pint in person. I'm more of a cup of tea and scone man myself though.
      Best wishes from the Belfast Castlereagh hills.

    How are you all going? I'm only now finding out about this new Storm lashing the North! Stay safe. We are selves here in Oz have had another week of extreme heat, with crazy storms with Giant hail. I'm out this morning with the chainsaw to clean up from a big storm on Thursday morning. So stay safe out there.

      @nakedireland Thankfully you're safe! It's not a pleasant experience storms, I used to look forward to storm season here, with the huge tropical clouds, massing in the hot afternoon, to break with relief the humidity. Massive fork lighting, the thunder! I loved it until we had a week of storms over a Christmas holiday that ended in an 80ft tree blown out of the ground by a lighting bolt right next to the house, that also instantly killed four others next to it!!!, Then the next night a Tornado!!! Never been the same since. Fires, and flood's and drought, seen it all now in its extreme forms. What a country!!
