- Custom domain names are simpler and more intuitive URLs that you can provide to your API users. In this video we will go over the detailed flow of Amazon API gateway Custom Domain in AWS, advantages, how to provision domain name in Route 53, provision certificate in Amazon Certificate Manager (ACM), and then point it to your API endpoint. We will have a detailed step by step demo at end.. Timestamps below:

@Cloud With Raj Hello, I think there maybe some confusion. Correct me if I'm wrong but getting a SSL in ACM is actually free? It shouldn't cost £400 for a public-key pair creation/hosting which is what an SSL certificate is really. Creating a certificate authority (CA) does cost £400 though?
You are right, using public cert is free. Ty for pointing out.
@@cloudwithraj Hahaha, you were giving me a heart attack too! Other than that, fantastic video.
Yeah bro I was about to say I have been using ACM for a long time. Now accidently using to much Account factory for terraform, that is 400, lol.
@@videodoranteater lol🤣
Love your good work, I got time-saving after watching your video.

Glad it was helpful!
Hi, one of best videos!!! keep going!
Thanks for the encouragement and support Denys :)
Great explanation. Cleared my doubts about custom domain in API GW. Thank you..
Thanks Sasi, glad it helped
Thank you, I could follow the entire flow and reach the API gateway custom domain.
Thanks Jean for the kind words. Very glad you found this helpful to create your own flow.
Your video made me clear picture on ApiGateway , Thanks a lot man for sharing knowledge..🙏👍.
Glad it was helpful Nagaraju!
You explain things by making them simple :)
Thanks Israil, I am glad you found it useful!
Thanks, indeed this is really an important topic.
Thanks Vinod, it really is!
just perfect!!
Thanks Denys!
Thank you for the explanation with demo.
My pleasure!
Well explained. Thank you for the video : )
Glad it was helpful!
You are my guru 😀
Such a great explanation of the routing. This video deserves an applause. Great work! Also the path is basically to match the address in teh browser and route the req to a different API endpoint based on the path. Adding this extra explanation here as at first it seems the 'Path' parameter will map the path to the api and skip the resource(path) in the url which is not correct
I actually have one doubt, so basically when we provide the value to this path parameter that would help us in differentiating the resources right, that has nothing to do with differentiating between the APIs. Like if I have a use case to call different APIs with the same domain name, would that be possible?
Thanks
Great explanation Raj!
Glad it was helpful!
Hi,
why did you say that using custom domain is expensive? On the pricing page (aws.amazon.com/certificate-manager/pricing/?nc1=h_ls), aws says 'Public SSL/TLS certificates provisioned through AWS Certificate Manager are free. '. Could you explain, please?
You are correct, if you use public cert then it's free. My comment was more for non public certs, I should have clarified it in the video. Thanks for catching it!
Subscribed, well explained
Thanks Yogesh. I am glad you found this helpful.
6:02 What I understand is that ACM is free for public certificates (which is what API gateway and custom domain will use in your case) so it won’t be costing $400 per month. Am I wrong ?
Thanks Raj 👌
Yw Taj!
Yes bro 😎 keep smashing ur Channel respect from London 🙌
I LOVE THE DIAGRAMS THANK YOU . SORRY FOR CAPS KEYBOARD BROKEN
Thanks Tariq! No worries at all about caps lock :)
Hi, thanks for the video, is there a way to connect to API gateway from another service?
I have also subscribed to your udemy course for serverless...It would be good if you can put code in releavent sections..do you have your public git repo?
Hi Raj
i purchased the domain name and then created the cert and it shows issued after than I created A Name and tried linking all together I have also created API mappings even after that when going to domain for some reason it doesn't work would you be able to help ?
Hi Raj, Custom Domain name comes with a penalty that it doesn't support Private API's and if customer has restricted environment and doesn't have access to internet then how they can access the Private endpoints without Domain Name ?
Can I route the API Gateway to Route 53 from different account?
Hello Raj Sir, first of all massive respect to you. I had one question can we map multiple api gateway to single custom domain?
Ya Swapnil, by using API path mapping. Check this out - docs.aws.amazon.com/apigateway/latest/developerguide/rest-api-mappings.html
You're doing an amazing job man. I highly appreciate your efforts. I was having a very bad time until came across this channel. HATS OFF to you!

Nice ...Raj you mentioned about cost of cerficate in acm around 400$ ...I thought they cost 1$ per month..Am i missing something?
Here you go Lalit, check the example, one of my student thought the same and got charged $400.75, hence the warning - aws.amazon.com/certificate-manager/pricing/
@@cloudwithraj Thanks ..I have personal blog running from 2-3 months acm certficates but have not been charged anything yet..now i am confused should i delete them
@@forlalit Interesting, you have private CAs in them? If you are using Public Cert, those are free. You probably have public certs?
@@cloudwithraj Yes they are public certs..you are doing amazing job keep them coming
@@forlalit I'm still trying to understand, does this really need the Private CA? Why choose that over a Public Cert? If a public cert is sufficient, why demo the private cert? Great video and great channel @Agent of Change!
