Slow TV - Walking to Carron Crag in Grizedale Forest (English Lake District)

- Join us for a walk up to Carron Crag - a fell in the Grizedale Forest in Cumbria. Carron Crag stands 314 metres (1,030 feet) tall. It's a comparatively easy (although relentlessly uphill) walk with a few rough and slippery stretches, plus one or two little scrambles up loose slopes. It took us about an hour to walk up.
Slow TV isn't for everyone - nothing is scripted here - no narration or music - nothing much happens, except by natural chance, and that's OK - there are no unexpected loud noises in this video and no midroll ads. Mostly you will just hear footsteps, running water and the breeze through the trees, and occasional other natural sounds. You may also occasionally hear the faraway background sounds of human activity, but don't think on that for now - just enjoy this peaceful walk up the fell.
For reference, a 'fell' is the name for a type barren hilltop, coming from Old Norse 'fjall' meaning 'mountain' (although Carron Crag is not high enough to be formally classed as a mountain).
The concrete pedestal thing at the summit is a Trig Point en.wikipedia.o...
This is one of several videos recorded during a week-long visit to Cumbria in September 2023

I really loved this. I was once an avid mountain hiker, but an acquired disability now limits my hikes to short walks on level terrain. Watching this video is the next best thing. You chose a beautiful trail; the soft moss, graceful ferns, babbling water, and grey stones all contribute to a very peaceful experience.
I really miss getting out there. Unfortunately I am a full days drive from anything that isn't unwalkable swampy woods. His slow tv content is a nice balm.
I can’t express how much I enjoyed that. The crunch of gravel underfoot and the sound lovely of little rills. Soul food.
Thank you for this. Videos like this are a breath of fresh air for those of us housebound.
came here to say this too
Thank you for the Slow TV series. I love your videos, never know what will be on. However these are my mom’s favorites. She is 83 and has dementia, she gets to see your adorable puppy and beautiful scenery. Thank you.
So beautiful and soul-soothing. Thank you, Mr. Shrimp, Mrs. Shrimp and Eva for sharing. Lovely day.
Your account is the first one I check on Saturday morning to get my weekend dose of Atomic Shrimp dopamine. 😊
I lived and worked in Grizedale Forest for about 5 years so this a route I know incredibly well. I used to take the dog out for multi hour adventures after work every day exploring endless trails.
You must've been feeling it at the end there, Mike! But what an ending it was...that reveal...wow! Even when there are no lakes in sight, it's still spectacular. Looking forward to seeing what else you got up to during your week away. I hope all three of you had a lovely relaxing time. Really appreciate your Slow TV Vids.
Eva is such a handsome pooch, so sleek and healthy looking. It's fun watching her enjoy her walk.
That whole area is gorgeous. I wish I lived near this kind of scenery.
What a lovely start to Saturday.... a beautiful walk, and Eva! Thank you.
Oh, this is so pleasant. I don't have so many walks like this because I live in an urban city, so this is just wonderful. Thank you so much.
Nice, I was cheated of a trip to the Lake District when I lived in Tyne and Wear. I much enjoy this slow TV videoes when I have the time to sit down and watch!
We viewers should all show our appreciation for Mr Shrimp by watching the ads at the end of the video to have RUclips pay him a little more. Mr Shrimp is thoughtful enough not to interrupt the video midway through and I for one really appreciate that thoughtfulness.
I completely agree. Its kind of like not paying for something that you have actually enjoyed watching..why not smash the button?😊
What I do instead, is watch and rewatch all of his videos from the start of the channel and like and comment on as many as possible to increase engagement. You can even share them. That helps too!
I wished I had visited this area when I was in England in 1995. Beautiful countryside. These slow tv videos are some of my most fave, thanks so much!
I love your channel so much Mike. You brighten mine and my wife's day always.
Beautiful picture of the 3 of you 😊👌🏼
Amazing :) Going to enjoy this in the New Mexico desert and try to imagine the divine smell of the English countryside. Thank you 🙏
Thank you so much for taking us on a walk today! I'm mostly housebound so this is really nice. Have a wonderful weekend!
The most relaxing sound all week.
Well done. Thank you for the video. I watch this series of videos when life gets a little stressful. Nothing better than bright blue skys, bright green grass, and the sound of running water.
Lovely, I used to love walks like this. To be able to enjoy it vicariously through you is brilliant. ❤
Such a peaceful walk. It feels like i came along
Lovely photo, and great video. Needed that tonight, thank you.
What a lovely, forested magical walk. Reminds me of where I live (Oregon, U.S.)
Ooooh the lake district! Going to watch as soon as I can!
Just beautiful. Thanks Mike.
Good of Eva to tow you along - especially at the sloping sections!
She is often so very certain about where we are going
Your dog is the perfect companion.
Please tell Jenny that I love her matching sweater, bag, and socks. It's adorable and a great shade of purple.
your slow tv vdos are always my favourite!
Fell asleep after just 8 minutes, been sick, well have to try watching it later. It is so awesome that in the UK people can pick plants, nuts, seeds, not able to do that in the US, the trails are so nice.
Absolutely gorgeous! Gotta admit that watching this made me feel happy and a lil jealous hehe :D
Nice walk. I like the crunch-crunch of your steps.
That view and setting 29 minutes in is absolutely gorgeous. It could have been plucked straight out of Lord of the Rings. Thanks for sharing the hike.
With the world heading into the toilet, it's the little things that make you stop and and really enjoy the views. Thanks for another incredible stroll with nothing but footsteps and scenery.
Having a bit of a sick day this day, so glad I didn't watch this video yet. Thanks for letting me enjoy a beautiful outdoor walk while lying in bed :)
Such beauty and hard to imagine so much of our world is at war.
Shrimp you've come up North to see us!! Love The Lakes, one of my favourite ever places.
Yes please! So hard to find good walking videos with no narration!
Have you discovered a channel called Living Walks?
Beautiful walk, thanks!
This is gorgeous. I’m sure Eva enjoyed the walk ❤
Interesting path this walk took. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful area, I love walks in the woods
Good night again. Watched a little more.
Such a beautiful place! But so eerily silent - no birdsong or calls whatsoever. I wonder what Eva thought of it? There must have been thousands of new smells from wildlife - I thought she didn't particularly like that first little beck she went into.
It's a grand walk, though, and your reward is that view. Wow.
Lovely video as always. Thank you. 👍👍👍
Wow, the. I’ve at the end is marvelous ❤
I reached a point where i have no idea why i even subscribed you in the first place, but im glad i did :3
Eva looks like she is enjoying the walk. I think she is taking on the role of expedition leader.
thank you for this nice walk
My knees are shot so a country walk is out of the question but it's great to enjoys yours vicariously
This is wonderful. Thank you.
Looks like a lovely walk beautiful countryside and views. The geology looks like it could be interesting.
Thankyou for sharing.
What a pleasant walk. Great vieuws at the top, wish we had hills like that
❤.what a lovely walk.😊 Thank you.
Nice, my best to you and yours.
These videos can be a good thing to watch while eating for those who live alone.
Cheers for the walk, mate!
That was quite the ‘shomp’ 😊
I am a cat person but your dog is so cute and loves this walk!
Great video
This was amazing, so beautiful & peaceful & thanks Atomic shrimp 🦐🤗
Unlike your walks through the new forest, this area is much quieter. Really enjoyed the nice walk to start my Caturday.
Love it! It's a lot like the woodland trails around Ladybower Reservoir here in the Peak Park. Please visit and do us a video!
Just what I needed!
Gods Country.. The County of my birth! 😊
Watching the suffering in gaza and Israel unfold has been so depressing, i cant tell you how much i needed this!!! Thank you!!!!
Lovely, I was there just a month ago when we had the hot weather.
Its nice to walk Eva
Love this. What camera did you use Mr Shrimp?
Looks like a lovely place ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks
The shadows seem to be operating at a lower frame rate than the rest of the world. Now, this IS probably caused by the digital camera itself, but I just thought it seemed like a funny "glitch in the matrix" kind of thing.

Please make more budget videos I honestly like them
Beautiful places
What beautiful places you walk through, but, I always had a question. Are those views and roads normal in the city? Or do you have to go far away to be able to find paths like that? I am always very intrigued, since where I live the country places are not designed for walking, but rather for driving.
Greetings from Argentina
Such a lovely walk through the countryside with little Eva trotting happily along with us.
The view at the top was beautiful! It must have felt magical to be there in person. You captured an awesome photo of you and Jenny and Eva, of course. 🥰 Thank you for a relaxing start to my Saturday!
I love these videos - it's currently foggy and rainy and cold outside and I'm aching from a sprained ankle so this is sating my urge to go out a walk somewhat!
I was wondering if you've talked about the setup you use for filming the walking sections in any of your videos? I had a look but might have missed it; I film some walking sections for some videos I do (not in competition with you!) and I always have a lot more bounce than I'm comfortable with and warp stabilisation in premiere pro looks terrible. I'd love if you could point me to a video where you talked about it, or give me a bit of info?
Or if anyone else reading this knows of the same, I'd love to hear that too!
Beautiful hat. This was really hard for me to watch: you weren't telling us all the things! This is an ancient wall made by the blah blah a gazillion years ago, or this wall looks ancient, but they just put it up yesterday and tossed a bunch of moss on it..... no history, no geology, no tidbits of this and that. So many shades of green, and the running water, and of course, Eva. Wonderful walk, thanks for sharing it. Take care, be well
Thank you.

Now, those some big logs.
You'd need strong 💪 shoulders to get one home for the fireplace or garden.
8:25 That's what peace used to sound like.
A lot of ferns. It's a lot like south Sweden and it's not strange depending on geographical position. But the height is more like Bergslagen in Sweden.
Nice,,, I have to ask. Did you see the bones from the guys from [ Still Game ]
I live in Belfast. We don’t have walks like this
I'm envious that your dog sees a walk as a chance to actually walk, and not like my King Charles Cavalier, a chance to stop every six feet to sniff things, turning an hour's walk into two.
I wonder does filming daily life take away the enjoyment of it? And lead to never switching off or feeling guilty if not filming
What camera did you shoot this with, and how do you keep it steady?
Hello, Mike. Did you by chance carry Eva during portions of your trek? Some of those paths looked stony and sharp. Her little paws would have been shredded.
I didn't think it necessary - she's got tough little paws and she doesn't weigh a lot; I'll pick her up for broken glass or wet tar, but for most other things she does OK on her own
😊@@AtomicShrimp
Does the atomic shrimp get a bath after she goes digging on the beaches? Will you show Eva's bath time one day?
I just want to paint, paint, paint, and paint.

🥰🥰🥰
have you ever been to any american national parks? I feel like you would like them.
Why are they chopping trees down in the lake district?
A fungal disease affecting non-native conifer plantations I believe.
Grizedale is a working forest. While there are large areas which are protected native broadleaves, most of the plantation is conferious and grown for timber on a cycle. Felling has expedited recently in response to phytophora ramorum in larch trees.
❤
Orchard removal, logging?!
I swear Atomic Shrimp could make these names up all by himself and I wouldn't notice at that point. These towns' names are so random 😂
